Glad to be on board

I grew up in Verdun . I now live in North Bay ONT. I went to Verdun High School. I hung around several places Dawsons, Dances at the rec on Bannatyne, The Hole beside the natatoriam. The monument at the city hall, and Melrose park .

I was so happy to find this web site. I am still in touch with people in Verdun. I miss the food so much, can't get a smoke meat , good pizza, what's the best place in the Pt for roast beef ?

When I saw the old photo of the lane I wanted to cry. In the summer when the front doors were open you could run through one house through the kitchen back out into the lane , You could run right through Verdun like this. We knew all the neighbours.,and all the mother's knew us!

When I was younger I spent summers at My Aunt & Uncles cottage in Muskoka,....but at one point they lived in NorthBAy .........I rode around Lake Nippising,.on a beautiful old boat called the Chief Commanda,......I believe it has since been replaced & updated with a newer one,.by the same name ( I think ).........alos the town was a lot smaller thqan it is now,....but I also Remember a Big Roundhouse ,...with a reall neat old locomotive on it,....right in North Bay,........I will try to find some of my old pictures I'm sure I have some from way back .....1960 ish,.....at least that's the summer I sttarted going to Muskoka,....also Remember them living in Cornwall too,.around when they flooded the area, for the new dam(he worked on it ,in some capacity or other....... I had to laugh when you mentioned running 'thrugh' the house from front to back.......usually followed by a group of kids,...and the familiar cry./////of 'Close or Don't Slam the Door''.............and the old 'Stop Running in the Hall'..........hahahahahah   Great old memory,.........you should have fun here: ......Funny as kids you could always get a drink ,.or treat,..the odd lunch too from a neighbour...........hahahahah The kids were everyone's kids really,..and every parent wouldn't hesitate to make you mind your manners: whether you were their kid or not.......................

Chief Commanda  ..I would guess that my Mom,or my Aunt took this picture,.......I Remember it being a real big deal (as a kid) to go out on the Lake & cruise around,.................we roamed all over the ship ,....quite the bit of fun as a kid..................

It's funny when I look at the picture and recall it as a ship,.........I got to go on real ships in the Montreal Harbour,.as my oldman worked on a lot of them in Ship Repair,.........Funny how a little thing leads to other memory prompts,.......

Hi Levijeans7:   I went to VHS in the 60's and may have come across your older brother and sister. Can you let us know your name?   I am involved in marine insurance and in fact insure the good ship - "Chief Commanda II". I also insured the fishing trawler "Katshechuk" before it sank off Newfoundland (2002) in a flaming blaze of molten metal ($15,000,000.) Shortly thereafter, I lost my job - some employers have no sense of humour! I also had a large Newfoundland loss last year in which a pilot piloting a pilotboat full of pilots piloted the "Placentia Pilot" into a pile of rocks in Placentia Bay. It seemed like a good risk at the time we wrote it - how did we know that the pilot was going to fall asleep.   Gord Gibbons

Levisjeans, I go to Callander Bay for a week every year to fish. Nice place for sure. I went to VHS in 67 - 71. When were you there? Maybe we know each other

Willie:   I didn't know that you fished - so do I. We can talk about this on Sunday.   Gord Gibbons
