Vets

It is the VETERAN , not the preacher,

who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN , not the reporter,

who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN , not the poet,

who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN , not the campus
organizer,

who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,

who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN , not the politician,

Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN ,
who salutes the Flag,

It is the veteran ,
who serves under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET
PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

When remembrance or veterans are discussed, there is one thing seldom mentioned. Forgiveness. Our people had the temerity to forgive their enemies and help rebuild their countries. Mothers who had lost sons donated to the Marshall plan to rebuild starving Europe. President Truman pulled ex president Hoover out of retirement to organize the collection of goods. Then Secretary of State George Marshall handled the distribution. Soldiers who had their buddies blown away were helping the guys that did it. Canadians donated mostly through the Red Cross. The greatest show of generosity and forgiveness since the man dying on the cross said of his killers, "Forgive them Father, for they not what they do. "   Ed

Well the thing that seems to always get 'overlooked' is that there was losses on each side,....innocent young people were killed on each side,..... and the so called leaders on either side didn't do a lot to stop it:escalate yes, ...........so the Forgiveness on either side is quite admirable I think,.......it always seems that ordianry everyday people have more savy than to let things fester,.....Forgiving is Hard,........but neccessary !..... We never see the leaders pay,.....but we do hear alot of rhetoric bs: ............and I guess we can't forget that the History Books usually record events from the winners perspective,....... Maybe we should 'stop' listening to the leaders.///////"for they know NOT what they DO"....................and prove it everyday: Just a thought!!

Gentlemen I agree, forgiveness is essential for world peace. I'd like to see this Christ-like behavior suddenly occur in Northern Ireland, Middle East, and elsewhere. The human race has a long painful road ahead to achieve peace and good will for all men. This may seem ridiculous to some but the 12 step program is a beginning I think. We in the program need to forgive in order to stay alive. Once the frogiveness (step 9) is accomplished, life opens up for us in ways we never expected. Just a thought.

Les, instead of worrying about the leaders you should wonder where we would be or what freedoms we would have today if it weren't for our Veterans.   bob allen

Bob  I don't worry about the leaders,.and I've always appreciated the vets,...and I'd have to wonder that if some leaders weren' t listened to,..there'd be a lot more people alive,.including our Vets,............I 'm not sure if you missed what I said,...but I'm one of the first to apppreciate the things we have ,..and to respect the people along the way,....

Les, I don't think the losses on each side are ever overlooked. The families of those who don't come home don't forget. They live with it forever. The Mother of the innocent child in Iraq feels it as much as a Mother in Canada.      Ed
