There are faces & Places I remember

This site makes me think of the Beatles Song Places
I remember.

I guess thats what happens when you hit fifty you
start to get nostalgic.

I was thinking of those dilevery boy's who rode
their bikes through the winter storms to bring the goods to your home that you
got on credit, or as Dad would say I got it on the cuff.

Those grocery stores had SAWDUST ON THE
FLOOR

There was one on the corner of Bannatyne &
Argyle near

Barry's Fish & Chip. You could get the best
fish in mtl wraped up in news paper.Just around the corner from there was
Johnny's Snack Bar. Johnny was so big hae could't fit behind his counter. I
think we went there just to see if he'd get stuck.

Across the street was Jacques Patate, I think back
to his grand opening he was giving free hot dogs, the kids were lined up around
the block.
I remeber one Sunday our dog ate
the roast my mom left on the counter and we all went down to Jacques to have hot
dogs.

It's not like I can't get out of the past . It's
just that I have such fond memories of my home town.

I agree Lynn,...and it's actually neat to see a newer member go through all the same things we've all felt at times too.  It's pretty good to realise that as different as many of us may be ,...We do have a very Common Background & common denominator....VERDUN and we all seemed to have such similar experiences,.... We all live our normal lives,....and this site does provide an escape ,and chance to re-visit,  some of the things ,that very obviously,we all seem to appreciate.........Our time Growing Up in Verdun   Hope you enjoy the site for  along time,....Your memory is great....and helps to prompt the rest of us to Remember & find relative stuff,.... and Btw:  I always loved that expression.....'On the Cuff'..........hahahaha reminds me of my oldman,...and that certain Montreal language we all knew.

Here we posted this a few months ago,but it's always neat to take a Bus Trip through Verdun,.............. So Remember the driver ,always yelled 'Advance to the Rear' ,........hahahah you won't hear that ,but the familiar sound of those old Busses,..will definetly spark the old memory bank:......... turn uo your speakers and listen to that old Bus (found on YouTube,..there are a few of them,..but here's one for now) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hw5u3rnoDXQ   ........now take your 'bus ticket' out of your glove,.and throw it in the box:     ................................................Remember getting a 'new book' of tickets,... You felt like your future was secured .............hahahahah like winning a lottery.....................

Lyn. Don't ever "get out of the past". Our memories are what we have to remember the past. Some people do not have good times to remember, and that is a shame. We do have some very good memories, and the times were wonderful. We could roam the streets, and for the most part we were safe. There were always a few "punks" around to try to make your life miserable. But to me they don't matter, and they are not worth the trouble to remember them. Keep sharing you thoughts, and we can enjoy those times with you. Also, they usually trigger something in us. I keep saying this....I just love this site and the people on here......What a lucky guy am I!!!!!!

Lynn, The grocery store you refer to was 'Johnnies's Meat Market' on Bannantyne at Argyle. I delivered there in '48 -'50. Barry's Fish and Chips was originally Barney's Fish and Chips. I went to school with Barry when his Father had the store. We used to ask for a dollar's worth and his Mom would fill the table.          Ed

Hey Lynn, You probably don't remember me, but your sister and Brian use to race with us. In fact Gloria just sent me some pictures of the Trophy presentations we had at the end of the year (Roostertails). That was when my husband and I both got trophies - he the GOLD HELMUT and me the LOVE TROPHY for the races. With Brians Mom presenting them. Good old days they were. The more I read the VC the more people I see emails from the past. It's nice to know where all these people are. Harriett
