Verdun/Montreal Places & Stuff

Remember when Nuns Island had only the farm & ruins of the Nuns residence/convent???

I wonder why it stood in such ruins, why was it only partially torn down,.was this the result of people dismantling it a little at a time or ???

Fresco,.....at one time I use to get over to Vancouver more often,.but I try not to go much anymore,....(a bit of a pain dealing with Ferries & line-ups etc etc),....but There use to be a few Montreal Style Chicken Places over there,...and a few tried Smoked Meat (some were Ok),.......but I didn't know Dave Boxer had tried a Deli ---any idea when or what area this was in? Generally in every instance ,the business's were owned ,if not run by ex-Montrealer's..............I'm going back a few years here though ,.I no-longer know what's going on in Vancouver,...but we do have a few members here who do live over there,.Maybe they know.....(actually I have a sister & friends who live there ) I will try & find out what montreal culinary delights ,still exist there if any)

Les,
My cousin told me this when I last saw him in 1992 at my uncle's funeral in Montreal. My cousin said Dave Boxer's deli had the craziest name ever. Something like Dave Boxer DJ and Montreal Smoked Meat Deli. My cousin said the name alone was enough to make you want to avoid the restaurant. I'll try surfing some Vancouver radio station sites and see if I can find any mention of Dave Boxer. He could be doing an oldies show on one of the stations. Back in the fifties I remember CFUN Vancouver was the big station in town. I've never been to Vancouver but I recall others who have telling me of CFUN. If you know anyone who hung out in Vancouver in the late eighties they may remember Dave Boxer's restaurant.

les__f MSN said...

Fresco I will see what I can find out,.........I'm surprised I haven't heard of it,.cause I did a lot of trips to Vancouver,in those years too....btwn hockey Games,..or the Auction,...or the just plain escaping for a party.....oh yea Expo86,too.........had to do that of course as my cousin was a manager of a Bar called the Unicorn, which was lined up from opening till Closing everyday,....saw the Irish Rovers in there many times,..(as the name would suggest,it had an Irish Theme),..one of the owners was a my favourite Uncle's brother-in-law ,.a fellow named Wally Floody (one of his claims to fame,..he helped ebgineer the Tunnells Tom,Dick & Harry,....in real life,.... and was in hollywood as an adviser to the making of the film(however that's another story)......We never waited in line-ups which were literally hours on end long,..we got right in & started to Party.........hahahahahah So I guess I wasn't paying too much attention,to Dave's Deli..... Your a knowledgeable guy,Did you know that Dave's last name is Boxerman So maybe if there's a way to check Vancouver business licence's we can find out exactly where it was........ Dave Boxer was into a lot of ventures,.......he wasa also instrumental (had to use that word),..for bringing big name Music to Montreal ....like the Beatles a so I've heard anyway....... Do you still listen to Coast to Coast........it's been somewhat thought provoking lately,...(but as you know ,can be a little 'out there' at times).......hahahahah

fresco750 MSN said...

Les,
I'm still listening to Coast to Coast but I always think of you and I talking about George Noory awhile back and how he kind of pushed Art Bell aside. I like hearing Art Bell on the weekend especially now that he has returned to the USA from living in the Philippines. I get a kick out of listening to Tom Leykis these days. A very funny guy. His web site is BlowMeUpTom.com. I'm certain he's on a station near you. His show comes from Los Angeles. I remember The Irish Rovers very well. I had an uncle who always listened to Irish music and the Rovers were a big part of his collection-Walter

les__f MSN said...

I had foprgotten about Tom,......but now that you mention it I do Remember Flash Fridays..............hahahahaha Yes Art is back on the Mainland USA,.......He had a difficult time losing his wife,....and I give him credit ,he was losing it a bit apparently,.but has managed to get back on track,,,,,Congrats to him,....and anyone who has to go through those things,.... What do think of this Richard C Hoaglund (sp?)......He seems to be a calm and relatively level headed type,.....I wonder if hisd theory's are accurate at all.....or perhaps the whole deal is Hollywood-ish???  George seems to refer to him quite often, ...sorry for jumping around here,..but Art was living in Hurumph (I know that's wrong.....hahahah) near LasVegas,..then must have chosen to stay in the Phillipenes ,because of his wife.....is that basically it??

sabby MSN said...

I thought Donald Tarlton was the Montreal promoter who brought in big name music to Montreal like the Beatles and Dick Clark's Cavaran of Stars or am I thinking of someone else.?  I think the guy is still a promoter but out of Toronto.   Interesting the whereabouts of Boxer after the heady days of the late sixties and early seventies.  If his Vancouver Deli failed, it must have been 'cause the meat wasn't authentic Montreal Smoked meat.  :-)   Dolly

sabby MSN said...

Oh heck, late night and I'm getting dyslexic here----meant Caravan of Stars.   Dolly

les__f MSN said...

Donald K Donald productions I think he called it,...and they did put on almost everything coming into Canada, but mostly Montreal,......However,I just read that old Dave,.had a hand in the beatle thing,.....which I think is about right,(time wise) as DKD seemd to be more into it,once the music scene broke out in a big way,..So with the Beatles being '64 the reinging(sp?)king of Montreal's Music was Dave Boxer,at least for a while,... We still haven't found the evidence of the Deli in Vancouver yet,..but were looking,....I think in the 'bio' that Arbutus(Gary) posted the other day it mentions that Dave Boxer retired and appaerently is still in retirement in Vancouver.........but were still gonna track his Deli Down....(at times we can be pretty fair forensic Detectives,...Although I readily admit ,we are still missing two 3d large cow heads,..................hahahaha  Guess that's Our Cold Case.........................

When I was doing volunteer work at the Children's, Dave Boxer got me two seats on the catwalk to take a 13 year old patient to see Canadians beat Detroit on Christmas day. The boy died of  Leukemia 6 weeks later.        Ed

What a Great Christmas Present for a little kid,...... ....................oddly enough it was very rare for the Canadiens to evn play on Christmas Day,......  but  on December 25th ,1965,      Montreal Canadiens 4  -----------Detroit RedWings  3 they never played Christmas Day after that date (at least not in the Forum) So this indeed was a special event for this little guy....... What really touched me, Les, was the simple humanity of Dave Boxer. He sat beside us on the catwalk and made young Jimmie feel very special. I was surprised that he said yes so quickly when I asked him for tickets a few days before the game. I think his connections were so much because he was important as the fact that he was so well liked. The family had ten children but I will never forget the shriek that came from his Mom when they gave her the news.                Ed

I haven't read eall the posts yet ,.Although I did check into the site in the last coupleof days,...but did any of the Upper Lachine Road bars get mentioned,...there were plenty of them ,that had some now famous talent play up there,..at the Galaxy .....(I think it was),...I saw George Thorogood there,....and the place was a blast...... Also Brodie' in Platssburgh was mentioned,.....but we can't forget the Saxony Lounge ,.......just a short drive over the border...... I see the '50' was mentioned ,used to go there after writing a Provincial Exam in school........hahahahaha  Saw a few teachers there too (early),...the pints were .35 cents during the day & the quarts were .65 cents,....but you could only get quarts till 8pm,..then you had to have pints,..which mysteriously changed prices to that of a Quart......hahahaha Hi-Balls were $1.10  Rum & Coke etc etc........During the day one of the daytime  bartender was a gal named Suzanne,...and she would make the best Burgers,....she also like to tease the clientel in her very short min dress,.while she would clean the top shelf above the bar.........hahahahaha She was an 'older gal'  as we thought then ,.probably late 30's possibly 40..........hahahahah That has 'officially been changed to a 'Younger' one nowadays.........hahahahaha

Yes, Softball at Willibrord Park. Moe Saucier pitched for Comfort Clothes. He had a heck of a wingdink (Sidearm) No windup. Percy McCracken pitched for  ?   . It escapes me.  Jesse Darlow was manager of St.Willibrord's  team (The Holy Name Society) A pair of brothers named Jimmy and Johnny something or other played outfield. They had an unbelievbable reach. When they were out there the cars on the street were safe. No fights just happy sports. I passed that park last summer, it's all fenceed in now.  An old man ws watching through the fence and a young man of about 25 told him to F off because he didn't like being watched when he played. I suggested we stay and watch together which we did, but the young lad never made good on his promise to 'come out there'.                    Ed

We have "5th Street", which isn't Uptown or Downtown....it's just plain Town, all 5-6 blocks of it.   I guess it I had to say just what I miss the most about being from a big city, ie., Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto or Vancouver it would have to be #1~shopping and #2~concerts.  Rod (the Bod) Stewart is coming to Vancouver, but the cost of the tickets plus the ferry is just to prohibitive!  Mind you, I've been to about 10 of his concerts but I never tire of him, sigh, sigh.   But on the other hand, I love the less stress of living in the boonies with the ocean and mountains and fresh air all around me!   Cheers.

Hi Les & Redwing & anyone else who lived there - We had a 'shack' on Goat Island(which was just in front of Heron Island) but we were on the Creek side facing Heron Island.  If you came down the Creek, there was a small set of rapids not that far down from the top and our 'shack' was just below that.  Some of the names from 'way back then' were:  Burt Havell(sp?), Jackie Brayton, Barry Wiseman(I had such a crush on him), Lise Dagenais, Joyce & Frankie Thomas.....my sister Harriett might remember some more names.  I was 3 weeks old in 1941 when they brought me up to the Island for the first time.  Every year, we spent the whole summer there until I was 12 or 13.  Our dad would go to work at the CNR every morning and come back at night.  Lise Dagenais and I would walk up to the top of the Island with our inner tubes, plop on top of them, and float down in front of the Island...this was on the Lachine Rapids side.....gawd, it's a miracle we didn't drown!!!  We would do that over and over.  All the kids used to swim at 'The Hole'.  When we were around 10, Lise stole some matches from their 'shack' and we hid in the woods, broke off some dried milkweed plant, lit it up and tried to smoke it....yuck! Her mother used to count the matches(?) so Lise got in sh*t for stealing A MATCH and we never did it again.  But Mme Dagenais told MY parents and that night, my dad offered me a cigarette and I took it, then a cigar and I took it.  I got pretty sick after that and it taught me a lesson(for a few years anyway...lol).  Lise and I would run around all summer in a pair of 'cotton panties' - and nothing else - until I started getting 'little bumps' on my chest and then we had to wear tops...lol.  It's amazing what memories surface when you read all these entries from everyone....sorta scary sometimes too. judy in NB

Here's a whack of old shows from CFCF Carte Blanche with Jimmy Tapp. Surprise Party A popular local kids show in the 60's with Magic Tom (Tom Auburn). Lunchtime Little Theatre with Ted Zeigler, known as Johnny Jellybean. Also poplular with the kids at the time. Pyjama Playhouse with Christine Donaghy. It's Your Move with Paul Hanover and later George Balcan. The Telethon Of Stars: Yearly telethon for reaseach into children’s diseases. Bob McGrath of Sesame Street use to appear on it regularly. Romper Room Montreal like many markets in North America had their own local version of this show. A syndicated version was available. The Toronto edition eventually replaced the Montreal version on CFCF. Like Young with Jim McKenna and June Mack. Know Your Sports with Dick Irvin. McGowan & Company with Don McGowan. Matinee with Joe Van, later hosted by Jack Curran and then George Balcan. The Mad Dash: English game show with Pierre Lalonde. Hi Noon: Summer time show with Ralph Lockwood, usually set outdoors in the streets of Montreal. McGowan’s Montreal: Long before Travel Travel, Don McGowan would roam the streets of Montreal looking for stuff to do. In one famous episode, McGowan gets hands dirty and makes bagels. McGowan’s World: Same show as McGowan’s Montreal but the word Montreal was removed in order to sell the show to other stations. Super Pay Cards: A local game show. The Ralph Lockwood Show: Local talk show. Hockey Magazine: with Dick Irvin. Good Morning Workout: An exercise show. McKenty Live: A TV phone-in show hosted by Neil McKenty. Travel Travel: Travel show syndicated across North America (well, parts of it anyway). Montreal AM Live: Same thing as McKenty Live but with Leslie Roberts instead. Park Avenue Metro: Local magazine-style show named after the metro station across the street from CFCF’s studios. Chain Reaction: English version of Action Reaction. Both shows used the same set. Also aired on Global in Ontario. Fighting Back: Consumer protection show hosted by Terry DiMonte and often featured Bowser and Blue. LifeStyle with Anne Shatilla. This one can barely be called a local show, but I include it anyway as CFCF production. Like McGowan’s World, this show hid its Montreal roots so that it could be sold to other stations. .......YIKES,...are we all that old,............hahahahahahaha

Which one is this? Epilogue: The Closure From 1970 to 1980 the Board closed 41 schools. In 1979 alone 3 high schools were closed. Monklands was joined by Wentworth High, a French immersion high school in the area. Soon many other schools were closed including most of it's feeder schools. Herbert Symonds is demolished, Kensington becomes condominiums, Rosedale (which went out of business before MHS) a police training center. Even the modern "backyard" Somerled School Elementary eventually succumbs. Only  Willingdon has survived from among the original schools. Among the high schools Montreal West, Baron Byng, flagship High School of Montreal and even the "new" West Hill High didn't survive to the turn of the millennium. The board blames the anglo exodus of the "family generating" age group in the 1970s and 1980s and the language laws of the era. Monklands it self will be the subject of a takeover plan from the MCSC which had planned to transfer Ecole secondaire de Roberval to the building. Instead the building will remain unused until 1984 when it will be renovated into a seniors residence by the City of Montreal. ----------------------------------------------                                  -------------------------                                                -------------------------------------- Seems Kensington has become Condos (what else).......never liked to go to school to start with,..and now they want you to buy your old classroom hahahahahahah..................................................Hope it prompts some mems'                                                              --------------------------

The CBC explained that Chez Helene, in which Helene spoke French almost exclusively, was based on the Tan-Gau method of language education (named after its developers, Drs. Tan Gwan Leang and Robert Gauthier), by which children learned French in the way children initially learn a language. The program was produced in Montreal by R.s. Lambert(l959-60), Jacqueline Leveillee (l966-67), Larry Shapiro and Peter Symcox (l967-73), and written by Raymond Duplantie (l959-60) and Hubert and Charlotte Fieldin.

Here's some Wisdom of the CBC  ,...in 1984 Budget Cuts ,forced the cancellation of the Friendly Giant.......hahahahaha Canandian Taxpayers Money & some idiot decides we can't afford a 15minute kids show,..............hahahahaha A guitar-playing chicken hangs in a sack on a castle wall while a giraffe with blue spots sticks his head in through a nearby window. They are, of course, Rusty and Jerome, there at the invitation of Friendly Giant, an affable father figure in a medieval costume. Together the three were some of the most enduring characters in the history of CBC children's programming. A creation of Bob Homme, the program began at a small commercial TV station in Wisconsin in 1954. Four years later Homme moved the show north to Canada and the CBC. Originally there were two puppeteers - one each for Rusty and Jerome - but soon Rod Coneybeare, a CBC radio veteran, was operating both. For 26 years, young viewers were greeted by the harp-and-tin-whistle tune "Early One Morning" as Friendly (played by Homme) lowered the drawbridge on the miniature castle. He would invite them to have a seat: "One little chair for one of you, and a bigger chair for two to curl up in, and for someone who likes to rock, a rocking chair in the middle." Then: "Look up, look wa-a-ay up…" and there was Friendly, soon joined by Rusty and Jerome. The rest of the show's 15 minutes were occupied by gentle chat among the trio, followed by a story or a musical performance. Friendly played the recorder, Rusty was on harp or guitar, and Jerome sang. Each week a pair of puppet cats - Angie and Fiddle, the Jazz Cats - also performed. In 1984 the federal government made considerable cuts to the CBC budget. Friendly Giant was cancelled shortly thereafter, though CBC executives said it wasn't related to the cuts. Bob Homme passed away in May 2000 at age 81.   ......................Only in Canada you say..........Pity,         hahahahaha

Inductee: Hammy Hamster By Andre Mayer Kosher hamster: Canada's number one media rodent. Courtesy Hammytime Publishing Inc. Reason for Induction:
For honourable service in the field of children’s entertainment and for giving buck-toothed rodents a voice.

Citation:
Before the dogmatic twaddle of Barney and Teletubbies, kids looked to Once Upon A Hamster for early-morning amusement. Unapologetically wholesome, the live-action serial followed a boot-dwelling hamster, Hammy, and his exploits with the Riverbank posse: GP the Guinea Pig, Martha Mouse, the Wise Old Frog, Turtle and Granny Rabbit. Tune in one week and you might find Hammy steering a raft or riding shotgun in GP’s car; the next, he’d be navigating a (miniature) hot-air balloon. That critter led a life of unequalled adventure.

Hammy Hamster was the invention of Paul Sutherland and David Ellison, who introduced him in 1959. The show debuted as Tales of the Riverbank, and was shot in a makeshift Toronto studio with a crew of two: Sutherland and Ellison penned the scripts, manned the cameras, did the voiceovers and even composed the accompanying music. The 15-minute segments were initially rebuffed by the CBC, but were soon picked up by the BBC.

People still speak wistfully of Sutherland’s gentle, artless narration, which was as integral to the show’s charm as the sight of twitchy, uncomprehending rodents scurrying across a simulated nature set. (Sutherland, who went on to voice Honda ads in the ’90s, died in 2004, at the age of 73.) Sutherland and Ellison halted production in the mid-’60s when Hammy failed to attain the popularity they’d hoped for. The show experienced several revivals, however: first in the ’70s, when it was produced out of a British studio, and then in the ’90s, when it appeared on Canada’s YTV network.

At its pinnacle, Once Upon a Hamster was seen in more than 30 countries. It didn’t reach a U.S. viewership until the ’90s, where it delighted insomniacs and stoners on late-night television. That’s where it caught the notice of Alan Ball, creator of HBO’s Six Feet Under, who ended up using a clip of Once Upon A Hamster in an episode of his lauded series. The show was retired for good in 1998, but Hammy and his furry clan are syndicated in the hearts and minds of Canadian viewers.

Looks like you can get a copy of this show JJB, Ted Zeigler was the hero of many kids as Johnnie Jellybean, 28 September 2003
Author: degagnon from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Actually the program was called "Lunchtime Little Theatre" and I and thousands of other grade school children were devoted to watching Johnnie Jellybean during our lunch hour at home. He was the wackiest, most imaginative person and had a great crew to support him. Another character on the show was Toomie the Duck played by Bill Merrill, who later became Vice-President of Programming at CFCF TV in Montreal. There was the "Squawk Box" that Johnnie would whack with a wooden mallet and most days destroy. He would receive mail that sometimes would get thrown at him and one day unknown and unseen by the viewers when he opened the door there was a woman without a top on. We only ever saw his expressions which were a riot ( and now we know why ). My favorite part of the show ( besides him ) was when he had these contraptions where he would drop a ball bearing and it would go through flippers and sand buckets etc. to get to the bottom of the maze. They were fascinating. We all loved Johnnie Jellybean and his whirly hat and striped jacket. We wish now that the TV station had saved the episodes so that we could have enjoyed them in later years. I was very saddened to hear of his passing and still wish that I could have thanked him for the many hours of enjoyment he gave to us over the years!! It seems the JJB show had been on with several hosts prior to appearing on Canadian TV in the 60's.........Aslo  Apparently Ted Ziegler (JohnnyJellybean),...also was on the Sonny & Cher Show "Johnny Jellybean" reappeared in the mid 1960's, this time on the Canadian TV Network, when Power and Wilson revived the character starring Ted Ziegler (shown) who would later be seen on The Sonny and Cher Show                             Look at the kid in the picture blocking his ears.........hahahaha

Laurier Palace Theatre Fire From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search The Laurier Palace Theatre fire was a small fire that occurred in the theatre on 9 January 1927 in Montreal, Canada. The fire started during a comedy called "Get em Young". 800 children came to watch, and panic erupted when smoke began to bellow into the theater. The children — who were seated in the balcony — had trouble exiting the building, as one of two stairways that led to safety were locked. Furthermore, the doors were opening toward the inside, not outside. The smoke filled the air, choking and blinding the children within two minutes. The tardiness of the firefighters allowed the deaths of 78 children. After the disaster, all children at theaters were required to be accompanied by adults to prevent a similar disaster and building codes were modified so that the door were to open toward the outside or at least both ways.  This Canadian history article is a stub. les__f MSN said...

Also Have a look at the curbstone,.........Montreal always had such beat up looking sidewalks............hahahahah Seems like they were always like that, I wonder do they cut the curb down now to help people with wheelchairs or scooters etc to be able to get around............i Remember when I first got out West (30+yrs),.....and almost every corner has the Curbs cut to make for easier access to everyone,......Good Idea Really,......but a I suppose in the old world Handicap Folks were simply not thought of??  Strange when I think of it now,...it should be an automatic to have access for everyone,........ Oh well I guess if we spent the Billions that we send everywhere else in the world here,....It would only make sense........Can't Do That.............hahahaha

winnie3ave MSN said...

Les. Talking about the curbs for handicapped people. One of the things that have made a difference down here, is The American's With Disabilities Act. It was a law passed by the Federal government, that everything, including buildings, public bathhrooms, theatres, restaurants, and everything else, must be accessable to persons with handicaps. Places get sued for a lot of money down here, if it even makes just a little difficult for them. It cost a lot extra to ensure there is compliance. It is a shame we need that, but it would not happen otherwise.

Search for grocery stores. Find gratitude. Turn a simple search into something more.

les__f MSN said...

Winston ,    Victoria here has had many of these things for many years,..I would imagine that it is the law ,as well,..... and everything built now will accomodate, for width and ramps etc etc,....I'm not sure if it is possible to convert all the buildings,.as some are just really old buildings, that couldn't be altered I imagine ,but Victoria has always had an elderly population,..so I suppose many things were changed years ago out of neccessity,... but your right if no law was in place, many builders may simply decide just not to do it........ I would think that by-laws would enable city council to not grant a business permit, depending on the upgrades a building had,.......

Hey Newfy Dog, just read your message (264) I don't remember the people so much, but remember a few other things - like Mom saving that Crow (JOJO). My wicker carriage , Uncle Bill's place and his way to bring water up from the river that we drank (wouldn't do that now). Me falling into the river headfirst and Dad grabbing me. Our wonderful Rasberry patch near the creek, and when Mom would send us down there to pick them for our dessert, only problem was we would eat them on the way back. I think they got wise to us pretty quick when we only got back with half the pot. Me sleeping in Dad's hammock that he used when he was in the navy. Boy you really started me thinking about the Island - haven't done that in a long time. Hugs Harriett

Streets of the World | Boulevard St Laurent-Montreal Boulevard St. Laurent is a giant bazaar of smells, tastes, and trinkets from every corner of the world. A little Babylon with its dozens of tongues and a cultural hotspot for Montreal’s young and hip. Called “The Main” by locals, St. Laurent neatly cuts the island of Montreal and the city in half – to the east are the French and to the West, the English. For decades, St. Laurent has grown to be “Montreal’s Third City” a destination for people who don’t belong in the dominant cultures to the east and west – a place where immigrants, artists, Mafia and misfits have found work, a home, a pint and a hot meal. And though times have changed, Boulevard St. Laurent, remains Montreal’s most colorful street. It’s a place where old or young, blue colour or white, immigrant or native share the same sidewalks, shops, and eateries. A place where the aroma of smoked meat, the clatter of a pool hall, or the music of the jazz festival lure everyone to take in its eclectic charms.

Les, In 1945, on my first job I worked for the Anglo Canadian Telegraph Co. at the corner of Notre Dame and St François Xavier St.. or was it the Anglo American Telegraph Co., I believe it was affiliated with Western Union. The building was similar to your photo of the C.N. Telegraph Co.  Can you come up with a photo of that corner ? Guy

les__f MSN said...

Levisjeans ,it's odd how certain pictures spark certain memory's,....but that's exactly what I thought about when I posted the picture,...... but I haven't really found a picture of those old water trucks yet,.(at least not one that would be from the right time frame)..........   One other thought ,I had yesterday,..and you sort of touched on it,....is you mentioned the guys who spread the sand,........... I was thinking of those same guys that would literally walk down the street in the springtime,.and sweep the sidewalks,......and clean up all that sand that had been spread over the winter...........also Remember on the back of the Garbage Trucks, they would have two of those real wide brooms sticking upside down off the side of the truck, near the controls that worked the compacter....... ..............at least were on sort of the same waave  length

les__f MSN said...

Hi  Guy,....I will keep that in mind,...and try to find a photograph for you,.... .......whenever I have a particular thing to look for,...i find 'other Verdun/Montreal stuff ,that I think we'd like..........hahahaha So consequently I have a million pieces of papers with notes to find or at least look for Verdun /Montreal stuff..........hahahahaha        O.C.D.  I think it's called...............hahahahahah

Les   I looked at it this way.  I think rest. is gone not sure. The entrance for the stairs next to it going up to the balcony. I see the people walking along.Figure maybe coming from Metro station on Willibrord.   At first I thought farther down but not so sure..traffic goes up 2nd towards Bannantyne.   Lad   We used to stand in that entrance so when the cops came to move us we looked like we belonged...

les__f MSN said...

Yes ,Looking at it that way,.would makes sense,..but that does mean that the Dep is the old Restaurant......??  I was thinking directly across the street for some reason,.......but now I'm completely not sure.......

Les   There used to be across the street a grocery store,I think then it was a pizza place.not sure if it still there.
