Hello Everyone,
My name is George.
I am new to this group.
As a young boy I spent some time over the years in the Verdun area with my parents.
I attended Kensington and Rosedale elementary schools in NDG 1956 to 1964.
My family and I moved to Vancouver BC in 1969.
I am trying to locate any class pics or other pics or info of my classmates.
I'm sure others would enjoy seeing them as well.
I know there is a Benny Farm site but it does not have as much participation as this site and I have had no luck finding any one who has class pics to post from when I attended school there.
Does anyone know Glen Nobes, Diane Smith, Pamela Bussell, Susan O'Mara to name a few?
Merry Christmas everyone!
George

Again Welcome to Verdun Connections ,.....if you have any questions re: how stuff works ,pics & stuff.then just ask away,....
Hi George...I probably can't help you in your quest, at least I don't think I can, but I went to Marymount High School from 1960 - 1964. I lived in Cote St. Paul and presently live in Nova Scotia. Some of my old classmates lived in N.D.G. and I had an aunt and uncle who lived in Benny Farm back in those days. Dianne

Hi George. Welcome to Verdun Connections. You will find a lot of good people on this site. You will also find a lot of people that will try to find out about some of the people you mention. We are scattered all over the place, many of which are on the B.C. mainland, and others on Vancouver Island. Good luck in your quest. I personally am living in Vancouver, Washington and have been here since 1972. Winston Allison (3rd avenue)

I had relatives in NDG. Did you know any Clements?
Maggie...sorry I don't recall any Clements. Dianne
Thanks all for the replies. Sorry I do not remember the Clements family. George
Does anyone remember Murray's Restaurant on Sherbrook street west? I worked there ( short order cook ) also A&W on St Catherine while attending school.1964-1967 Does anyone know or remember anyone that worked there, any pics? George
Ironic George that you would have worked for Murrays......and then worked for A&W (the original & arch rival of McD's)................because didn't Murray's property get taken over by a McDonalds ?? .................that is sad that a McD's would replace 'any' restaurant,....... but I did notice a few years back on a visit to Montreal,.that a lot of fast food places were very prominent ,......this is too bad ,as Montreal always had pride in their abundance of good small restaurants,.......now the fast food giants have moved right in...............too bad.
George ........welcome.
Just a quickie , I believe there was a member of this site that also worked at the AW that you mentioned ......same period that you refer to .
Sherbrook Street " MURRAYS " Fried Liver senious special .
I forget which day of the week it was on......
I used to infrequently go there with a legendary Verdun Gent.
that was his treat to himself , he loved that special.
"Dan Kelly" who I believe was the uncle of a member of this site , Tommy, I had the great pleasure of recording some of Dan's memories about twenhty five years ago . I did'nt get too many recollections from his brother Reg though .
Unfortunately about when I tried to cntact Dan to see if he could add more material to his recollections , he'd passed away during my Verdun absense . It was sad to me to have missed such a valuable historical resource . He was up in his nineties ........
So yes Sherbrook Street " Murrays " it's in my memories....
I also have memories of St "K" street " Murrays " where I used to go in the early fifties .....and funny enough in the seventies I partnered with a guy who's father was a chef there back then.......
Are ya gonna tell the secret to the apple pie filling ?
Railroad apple pie had a special Apple pie filling and it wasn't Apples ......
I'll leave it to ya George .......
joey

Hello Bob, Many a steamed fruit pudding I have eaten! We used to sell out. Cheers! George
Hi George
It's not surprising that you used to sell them all. I'm sure I was addicted. And to still think of them all these years later. They were wonderful. and what a wonderful memory you prompted with your post.
Merry Christmas

As a young Rookie Cop in Westmount back in 1967 when cops walked the beat it used to be my distinct pleasure to shake door handles on the "Midnight Watch" along Sherbrooke St and Murray's Restaurant was one of the of the door handles I used to greet, "Hello Door" thankfully the door never replied........LOL It always looked warm and inviting inside during the winter when it was 10 below and the snow was blowing with a fury and the only tracks in the snow were mine. The cops from 14 Station in NDG used to drive up in their warm patrol cars and roll down the window an inch or two and laugh and ask if I was nuts...... I always wondered how they knew I was nuts....... LOL Gary Saanich, BC
Hi all
One of my first jobs was as a stockboy with Kane's Drug Store on Sherbrooke a couple of blocks east. I also tried for the Westmount Police but never went past the initial test. I remember the first VIP's comming into town for Expo 67 with the high speed motorcades. I thought we were being invaded. 1967 was a good year and I turned 20. Sigh!
Cheers from Gerry
