Remember escaping the city ,..if you didn't headt to the Eastern Townships,....you could head into the Laurentians,,,at all times of the year,.the Season's all showed off the little towns & villages,..usually we drove,..but some may have taken the train,...and stopped at all those little stations,.....they seemd to stand still in time ,always looking the same,

There always a whacj of little towns to visit,......I Remember going to SteDonat, and swimming in the lakes up there,......plenty of different lakes to visit,.....Quebec dose have a certain charm to it's small towns.....
That's what was great about living in Montreal,....there were so many places to go & visit,all within a short time frame of the City,........and in any direction,.....it made going for a Sunday Drive ,always interesting in any season........

For many years when I was a kid we went to Golden Lake in Val David. That is where I hid out for most of the summer before I got a waiver from The Commandant of The U.S. Marine Corps. As soon as I got that, I left for Albany New York, was sworn in, and arrived on Parris Island at midnight in the middle of August. The hottest time of the year in North Carolina. Not a good time of the year to go thru boot camp. That was when I was just 6 weeks short of turning 20. Also spent some time in Lac Renaud, which is just a little northeast of St Jerome. Then of course Val Morin, St Agathe. Also St Faustine(?), which is north of St Agathe. Still a 2 lane highway up to that place!!! Beautiful country. Because of the freeway, people now live up that far north year round, and still come into Montreal to work. Who woulda thunk??? Winston Allison
