Hmmm ,What should I ask Santa for:>>>>>>>>> You could find all sorts of stuff,in that book...........................
Imagination. That is what it is all about. That is why radio was so great. Each of us listening to a progarm, and each of us picturing what is going on. Remember when tv first came out. I can still see myself and others, including adults looking at the TV thru the window of some merchant on Verdun or Wellington. The only thing that was showing was the test pattern. How awestruck we were. That how it was looking at the Christmas scene in Eaton's or Simpsons. WOW!!!!!! It takes you away to Never Never Land.

I'm laughing at the note on the bottom of the catalogue: "We pay shipping charges on all orders of $2.00 and over." That was back in 1959 (not soooo long ago, eh), and does this mean you could actually order and buy something that cost $2.00. BEAM ME BACK, SCOTTY...RIGHT TO 1959. But.......what memories. Wonder what memories the young kids of today will have 30/40 years from now? Cheers
You mention imagination Winnie. Jack Benny said that when he went home and listened to his show on the radio he would hear himself walking down a hall and it seemed like it was some one else. He would visualize the scene in his mind and enjoy it with everyone else. With TV that was lost. I remember driving one evening listening to the inner sanctum. I was so engrossed someone blew a horn beside me and scared hell out of me. I've been with the Church ever since. Ed
Albert once said, ...........and He was a fairly smart character,...............................
meant to ad the complete quote from Eienstein,...... "I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
Albert Einstein (1879-1955), German mathematician and physicist. .................so be enough of an artist,..and 'draw' on your Imagination,..like the little kids ,who stare into those Christmas Windows,.....and the see a real Santa.....................................................
Les, when I was 9 nobody would let me near a typewriter. Even if it was to type a letter to Santa. I wonder what year that letter is from.
Now I see 1968 written in the corner.
Holy Toledo. Eaton's pays shipping charges of any order over $2.00. Can you believe that? Amazing how far we have come.........

Les. Are we not all just kids at heart, or at least most of us. My 7 year old granddaughter told me she has and imaginary friend. I told her I did to. A lot of time, especially when I am driving, people will see me talking. They think I am talking to myself. But I am not. I am talking to that other person I have with me. Of course if I get caught, I pretend I am singing or whistling. Ya, that's it!!!!! Gotta have fun.....

I just gotta know: When driving, with nobody else in the car, do you still crank the volume up when a favourite song comes on? Yup, I do...and turn the knob on 'full base', light on the 'treble'. Once I forgot to turn the volume down, and guess who drove the car next...that's right ~ not me.....lol. I think he wanted to go to the hospital emergency, thought his ear drums were broken. That'll teach him to turn the volume down before he starts up the car! And yes, I sing along with my favourites. Sometimes can't remember all the words so I just slur over them....nobody knows the difference. Geez sure do wish I was sweet 16 again! Cheers.
Absolutely Mom,...........and sometimes I intentially turn the volume right up,and turn the fan on high ,the wipers on high ,.........and then watch when Teresa gets in the car in the next morning,.........hahahaha If looks could kill...........hahahahahaha
Ed That is a good one. It is surprising what a good scare will do. It feels good after!!!! SOMETIMES...

Linda. Same on this end. Pumped that radio up, with the windows turned up. If I put the windows down, I reduce the volume. Sing along? You bet. Sweet 16, and know what you know now, or still be young and innocent? I sure wish I knew then what I know now about women. Then again I probably don't know that much more now. But I do know they where pretty close to being after what we were after, just a little more consideration, I think.

Amen to that Les. To all of us "little kids" that still see the real Santa. What a wonderful world this could be!!!!

Ok were getting close enough to the big day,.....So as i mentioned a while back ,maybe a month or so,......it would be time to post that old familiar Eaton's Train, that took many of us for a Magical Christmas rife through Toy Land,....and then to see Santa, where we were given a complimentary gift,as a lead up to Christmas,...........Rememeber those days when (as kids) we really Aprreciated getting a 'gift',.....cause it really was a gift.......ahhh yes Xmas was very Special .................. I have posted this picture several times over the past few years,....but it really was a special train,..............that many of us rode................ I will still try to find us ,better shots of this old beauty, but so far this is the one we will see............I do have another picture, hanging around (so to speak.......hahahha) ,but this one was handy via the CNsite..........
I knew I'd come across the other picture ,........taken in the PointSaintCharles shops,.............at a private Christmas Party,.......... Wow ,How lucky were these kids to ride the Eaton's ToyLand Train,....way before the reat of the City................................. The Magic was still there,......................and caught the attention of the Parents too,..................................they all wanted a ride on the Train....
Les, I think I know what that party was. The C.N.R. employees Association had a club called the IDEA club (Inter Departmental Education Association) My Father was Sec.-Treas. Since he didn't drive, I used to get the job of taking him to special occasions as he always had paraphenalia to take with him. They had a party every year at the shops and Donald Gordon was often there. I remember once, as guest speaker, he said, "I'm reading your report of past activities where it says 33 people enjoyed dancing. Does that odd fellow know he was dancing alone?" Ed

Those would be priceless memories,.......Mr Grodon was a very powerful & smart guy,.....running a number of things in his career,....as well as being the prez oc CNR,............... Seems he had a good sense of humour too !. That's perfect ,Thanks Ed
We certainly had some really interesting things available to us ,in those days I wonder what marvels are around for today's kids,........'Technology is first & foremost in their lives it seems,....but I wonder what 'real' fun stuff they have ,that they will recall like us 40 & 50 years later ?
I worked at CN Headquarters after leaving school and remember seeing Donald Gordon. To me as a kid he seemed larger than life and mere mentioned of his name conjured up all kinds of god-like images ---LOL
