THANKS for stopping by, I do my best to acknowledge when someone leaves a comment, you do not have to be a member here & everyone is welcome.
Ps: This site is monitored but not actively posting on a regular basis. Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.
The Story of the IcredibleMusic Machine (I got it via email today) cool Les This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort
between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the
Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa
Amazingly,97% of the machine's components came from John Deere
Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft Iowa , yes farm
equipment! It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up,alignment,
calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see it was WELL worth the effort. It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the
Further snooping revealed that no such machine exists. —–Original Message—– From: Smithsonian Information [mailto:info@si.edu] Sent: Friday, November 17, 2006 10:59 AM Subject: Re: question on claimed exhibit earmarked for Smithsonian Anne Babcock Your inquiry of 14 November 2006 concerning a musical instrument made from farm machinery pieces has been received in the Smithsonian’s Public Inquiry Mail Service office for a response. The web site you referred us to shows a computer enhanced or animated creation - as indicated by the caption “Musique Animation” - and not an actual musical instrument. Further, we were unable to find any reference to a Robert M. Trammel Music Conservatory and the University of Iowa does not have a Sharon Wick School of Engineering nor a Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall. The Institution cannot accept a donation of something that doesn’t exist. We appreciate your interest in the Smithsonian Institution
Ah ha,...........must be my Verdun/ Montreal Skeptical nature:as I did preface my post with if it's real,..and if not it's a good videoThings are not always as they seem................hahahaha Good Detective work Gary................(now where's those cows).......hahahaha
Rumor has it that two cows were seen, although not recently, on a toboggan slide in Verdun. However the sighting could not be confirmed by reliable sources !!!!
Oh where, oh where have the two cows gone, Oh where, oh where can they be? With their tails cut short, and their ears cut long, Oh where, oh where can they be? Maybe, perhaps, they have put on a pair of false antlers and are planning on joining Rudolph. lol Cheers
Mom1945, Every time I see something about the Cows at Elmhurst Dairy , I think of my grandfather. H started out as a driver for Elmhurst Dairy with a horse drawn wagon. Later became the plant dispatch manager at the River St Branch. He worked from 11 PM to 7AM setting up the wagons for delivery around Verdun. I remember having cream on my cereal at Grandma's house. It was one of Grandpa's benefits along with chocolate milk. We never had that at home. Too expensive. Ruth
Just for you RuthArmstrong: maybe we can't find those laughing cows,..but if it reminds you of your Dad when he drove a horse drawn cart for Elmhurst. then I think you might like these: Lots of Elmhurst Dairy Stuff, just for you,....................ps: Ruth maybe in some long ago putaway box, you might have an old photograph from the Dairy,..or one of your Dad,...if so and you'd like to post it,......we'd love to see it,......if not, then just have fun looking at these ones
Les_F Hope you can take this with the humor intended. How the heck old do you think I am!!! I will be 65, Dec 26. LOL But that's OK how can we remember everything from this site!!! I appreciate the association with Elmhurst Dairy. It was my Grandfather that drove the horse drawn deivery wagon. As a child as I remember the milk was delivered daily by truck and would freeze in the winter and the paper tops would sit on top of the frozen milk. I will add the other pictures to my collection for the family project. My Dad was a Fireman for Westmount Fire Department and I am grateful for the pictures of that too. Trying to recreate 65+ plus years history from over 1000's of miles away has it's challenges. All help is always sincerely appreciated. My Grandfather became the night dispatcher when the River Street distribution site was set up but I understand the Street no longer exists so the building is lost and gone forever. I think it had something to do with Champlain Bridge but not sure. Sincerely Les, Thanks Ruth
OOOPS,..................Sorry 'bout that Chief.........hahahahahaRuthArmstrong ..........I thought it was your Dad,.....So it was Grandad, then I stand corrected ( & pssst 65's not even close to old)............hahahahahahSo maybe it's your Grandad's old shoebox full of pics,.that we need you to find, maybe 'it' contains that picture of those elusive protruding cows, from the sign above the icecream shop, at the old Elmhurst/Sealtest/Parmalait dairy building.............Glad you liked the pics anyway.......and glad you saved them,......
