Hi All...
I live in London, Ont. now and have for a long time but I did grow up in Verdun. We moved into a flat at 878 First Ave, across from the ball park, and my parents had to pay the princely sum of $35 a month, this was in 1947. I wonder what flats go for now?
I retired over two years ago and have the urge to move back to Verdun ... what are one or two bedroom apts. averaging these days?

Check out the gazette of today on line - you could get something in the $650 range http://montreal.renting.canada.com/properties/search/index.php?qAction=search&page=1&pagesize=25&view=1&qTerms=rent&qSearchTab=sell&qRegion=Central+Montreal&qCommunity%5B%5D=Verdun&propertyType%5B0%5D=Real+Estate+Rentals&qMinPrice=&qMaxPrice=&qBedrooms=&qBathrooms=&qSqft=&qKeywords=&qDateRange=&qSortBy=Price&x=31&y=7
I am a landlord in west Verdun and have rented places out recently from around $550 to $650, 4 appliances, no heat, or electricity. The places go fast, there's a lot of good people, many quite young and they seem to like living there. Most of buildings are well maintained although you see a lot of staircases, particularly on Bannantyne West of Woodland, that need a new paint job. If you want to rent an apartment, don't waste time with the newspapers, this is the place to go: http://montreal.craigslist.org/ Verdun is looking good these days, there are a few fancy looking shops on Wellington near 2nd Avenue, which in the past was a pretty zonked out area.
Rents are cheaper for sure in Verdun then Toronto..
Here in Toronto, no one know no one. Neighbours do not
know thier neighbours, even if they lived alongside
each other for years.
in 1970 i paid $65.00 a month for a flat on 2nd. ave..
