Mostly these are stories & some photos saved from a defunct site known as Verdun Connections which was on MSN Groups initially then on a social network called Multiply.

Well Norman, usually any information that is valid and is from MSN is usually only sent to managers and or moderators. This email would be an official email not sent by something like MSN yada yada yada. That doesn't mean to say that it is a hoax, it could be valid information passed on from some peeved off people who heard a rumour that MSN is in fact intending to do this. Hackers know things sometimes before the general public and they "leak" information in an attempt to stop it from happening. I know that MSN did in fact change the public chats (i.e. not the ones in the group) and they did limit the groups somewhat, like taking away the calendar usage (boo hoo) so is it far fetched that they might take chat away from us, probably not. It is all about the almighty buck. Nice how they reel ya in, allow you to form a great group and when everyone is in it, with pictures and all, they now say, hey were going to charge you. Its called capitalizm and it bites. A wee bit of advice, never never open email if you do not know who the person is that sent it to you, generally speaking they are usually one of three things: a hoax as you say, some form of socilicitation or worse a virus, note as long as you do not open the attachment you will not be hit with the virus.

Apparently, this is true - MSN is discontinuing their chat feature entirely. Not to worry, no biggie, I have us all set up for "gabbly chat". Check this link out http://gabbly.com/http://groups.msn.com/VerdunConnections It will first load the Verdun Connections web-page and then load a "floating" chat box on top of that page. Anyone who want to visit Verdun Connections and wants to chat simply has to click on that link and then they can join in the chat. Give it a shot to check it out and then save the URL to it for future use. We mods can also just add the link on the homepage of Verdun Connections as well for easy reference. We will not lose chat!
Just wanted to add - the chat feature isn't getting cut until next month, peeps, we still have a few weeks.

Hi, The comment you made in your first posting left me wondering.....the comment about William Shatner (Captain Jerk) to use your expression. Whether this was your attempt at humour, or not, just steered me away from wanting to "talk" with you. I mean if this is what you open with, before you even know us, well.......... Hi, If a red "x" shows up, then the picture has been deleted. One reason for this, is the amount of memory allowed, before you start paying. Therefore after the picture has been posted for a length of time members usually delete them to make room for others. I didn't mean to be quite so abrupt in my response....guess I should take lessons in how to be a little softer in my approach. Hope this clarifies my answer a little. Cheers.
Hey AB. I am a manager here (one of three). I was away for a couple of days....so....Welcome to Verdun Connections! I hope you can enjoy the group. I can offer a simple explanation for those "this message was deleted by a manager or the assistant manager ". I am a manager. sometimes after I post a message, I read it again and I don't like either how it sounds after the fact or I see spelling errors, so I delete them. Sometimes I rewrite them, sometimes I don't. BUT....because I am a manager, it displays that message! There are not that many.

Kungfu's post in this same message thread, was deleted because of a potentially hazardous (working) link that was displayed in the body of the message. The message itself was copied in the message that followed it so it was not lost when I deleted the original. I am waiting for a reply from MSN. The only notice I have seen regarding this Chat discontinuance does not mention the Groups' feature.
Mom or Linda, I hope your not refering to me , I posted that chat will be closing down, that is how this thread started, and yes I have further information that this is true, for that to be removed sure does not make any sense to me , however , I shall let it rest . Jimmy

Thankyou KungFu. I suppose we could all use MSN Messenger if we wanted but the chat feature of this group has really not been a big draw. The different time zones and busy lives of members has not been favourable to scheduled chats. If this changes in the future......Sharon has the situation cased!
I recieved the same reply as KUNGFU posted from Heidi at MSN groups support. So.....if anyone wants to try out the alternate chat that Sharon mentioned, let's hear from you.

Sorry Jim, I certainly did jump the gun on deleting your post. It was posted with two active links on it and no assurance that the message was from a legitimate source. I was having trouble even finding a way to contact MSN about the matter and thought it best to get rid of the posts in case it was a hoax. (Hoaxes often are presented with links that are or can be quite malicious if you click on them) Once again, I apologize. Your information was definitely legit.
I thought I was pretty well informed when I posted it , and scanned it with my anti virus , I have been the virus route before , and I agree , they could probably catch me again, but , I try very hard to cover all the angles, I try very hard to only post what would be interesting to us, and I thank you and Les for this fantastic site , giving us back memories that would have stayed dormant , I have no intention of going anywhere, and the work you have put into Verdun Connections is to be admired . I enjoyed a lot of people who went to the other site, that is not my style, after all the work you have done for all of us , they , other group , should have had the decency to at least start another group with another name, however people being people , c'est la vie, once again thanks for all your hard work , you and Les make this site very interesting , hang tough Jimmy p.s.
