Arlene here

Hi,

I don't know how I ended up here, but I'm glad I did.

Anyhow, I went by the name Arlene Peters. I've seen quite a few names that look familiar.

To anyone I knew, hi.

Montreal is the best.

Arlene, welcome to this Verdun Connections Group. I remember you from VHS, I also remember Garfield, is he related? I think you will find a ton of great memories, stories, photos(I have a few in Ralphies Pics), etc in this group. There are members from all across Canada, USA including Hawaii, and various locations around the world. You have about four years of messages to check out if your interested.          Ralph Piercey  aka m.p.u.

Hi Ralph,

You remember me? :o

Your name sure is familiar. Did we have any classes together? Did we hang out at all? Gawd my memory is terrible. I don't have a high school annual either. If I did, I could cheat.

My brother is Garfield. He's living near Hudson and has his photography studio in Montreal.

Tell me something that might jog my brain.

Kitsch, My memory is starting to be in the ''Oldtimers stage'', so bear with me if it wanders.......I also went to Woodland including the annex, then up to VHS for 9,10, 11 ending in 1972. I have some great memories of Woodland (Mr. Allan Shatzky grade 7)  and awful ones (Mr.Boinke gym, I fell after having gone over the wooden horse and fractured my wrist, but he made me keep doing gym just the same!) In VHS I liked most teachers with the exception of Mr.Sharf (Chemistry & Physics) It is not surprising you would not remember me, as I was a loner, usually went back and forth to school on a bicycle, until grade 11 when my Mom used to let me take her car. I have the 1972 Spectrum Annual, but could not see either yours or Garfield's photo. Here is mine from the Annual...... .......I have heard of Garfield's Studio before, where is it located?  m.p.u.

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for the pic. I do remember you :)

I know the only place that I'm in the annual is a candid shot on the way to Winter Festival where someone disguised my bottle of Coke as a bottle of beer. I always managed to ditch the photo taking sessions.

As for Garfield, his picture might be in the science or chess club. I don't know for sure as I don't have an annual myself.

Garfield's studio is on Pitt Street. As I haven't been back to Montreal since I moved back in '79, my memory fails when I try to picture where the heck that is. It might be over the bridge on Church Ave. Again, I'm not really sure.

I've really enjoyed looking at some of the pictures posted of Verdun, especially the lanes, where I remember fondly spending my spring, summer, and fall days either hauling a** on my bike, playing hockey or baseball with the gang, or taking a picnic lunch of peanut butter and jam, riding my bike down the lane and parking my tush on some errant patch of grass, thinking I was on some grand adventure. hee

I'll try to find some antique pictures I have buried in a box and post them here as well.

I'm still figuring out this message board so I hope I'll find the appropriate place to post them.

How has life treated you since High School? Well I hope.

I guess Mr. Boinke could be a harda**. Maybe I had a crush or something. Again, the memories aren't there. Maybe coming to this group will help jog some.

I remember a Science teacher, He was small in stature and, as well, of backbone. He had no control over the class. There was a rumour that he'd had affairs with some students, which didn't bode well for students taking him seriously.

Mr. Sharf, wasn't he the teacher we had when 'animal dissection' was in the curriculum? I remember him.

This post seems to be going on and on.

I'll give it a rest and post more memories when they come.

Hi Arlene, I remember you from VHS, I also remember your brother. I used to hang out at your house once in awhile. I think I recall the picture in the annual you refered to. Was Sue McBride and Brian Luckie in the pic as well? Anyway, for some reason I seem to remember something about jugs of cold water in your fridge??...not sure why! Was probably high or something (ha ha) I used to share record albums with Garfield and remember him with his camera. He was very sweet and wonder if he remembers Alex (can't remember last name right now) and David Emery. Glad you found the site, I check in from time to time to see who has been and left a note or pics. Enjoy 1jwest a.ka. Joyce Cunningham
