hi beeaired, i also went to rushbrooke school. if my old memory serves me right, didn't the school have a chain link fence around it and about 6 steps to get to the main door. patsy
Hi beeaired This is a photo of Rushbrooke School. (I wasn’t there when the shot was taken in the 1920s :-))) ) A primary school of the Verdun Protestant Board of School Trustees. This school has been transformed into lofts. JMH
Just noticed where you said that Rushbrooke School has been made into lofts. Sure is a good idea that many of the older buildings and landscapes have been reserved in photos for posterity. Time is coming when the younger generation are going to think that the "lofts" were there first.
At least Rushbrooke School still exists (the building, anyways, even though it has been converted to lofts). I've always regretted not dropping in to Bannantyne School for a nostalgic visit on one of my trips "back home". An opportunity lost for ever.....
Yes,,the fence was there to protect the DIL??..haha..The same fence ran across Rushbrooke and then up the lane (backside). As to those steps,,sure did a number on you if the janitor forgot to clean them in winter.
Hi Chubby, Don't know if you knew my dad and uncle -- Ross and Don Hyde. They lived on the avenues (6th I think). My uncle Don is gone now but my mom and dad live in Chateauguay too. Or maybe you knew my mom's family -- Roland, Murray, Pearle, Shirley & Hilda Kilcup? Hilda is my mom, and Shirley is still alive and living in Plattsburg, but the others have all passed on. Pam Hyde (Ross & Hilda's daughter)
Hello, I am a new member. My mothers familty grew up on Rushbrooke St before WW2. My mother and her brothers went to school at Rushbrooke, and I am trying to track down some of their history. Drove a 1942 45 Harley, along with othe JollY Rodgers . also 75 Yrs old. and now living Chateauguay as well, Cliff Morin sold the Harley to Jack Eden , whom has passed away. I Still drive a 750 Honda, Ron Larman
Bee, Do you remember the name of the janitor when you attended?.........Mr. Harper........skinny little guy who never smiled and a hard worker. Sonny Martin
keithinbeeton 1 I could not answer your posting til now as I had some email problems. First , all of the Stafford names are familar to me, however I would like to correct one thing, the Staffords lived on May Ave, not Rushbrooke St. They lived in the first block of houses down from Wellington St. There was a greek corner store on the corner of May and Wellington opposite to thestone stairs leading to the start of the Verdun Boardwalk. The owner was Pete Colivas. The block of houses where the Staffords lived was owned by the Taylors...there were 3 Taylor children..Thelma, Phyllis and Frank.....Frank is the only one still living and lives in the USA in the Boston area. Other families on May ave. were the Demestrals . the father was the minister of the French Protestant church on the corner of River St. and Wellington.. other families were the McCarthys....the Coughlins....the Fosters.....the Masses.... the Colligans...thePeters.....the Ducats....the Gordons.... the James. We lived around the corner from May Ave. at 3020 Rushbrooke St. There are 4 of us Brown children.... Kenwho is 80 and lives in Ajax Ont. Bruce is 77 and lives in Pointe Claire Que. Joan is 70 and lives in Atlanta Ga. Judy is 65 and lives in Peterborough Ont. I hope this background will be of some help to you. Best regards Bruce Brown

Hi Frank, I lived at 3379 Wellington St. not far from halfway lane. I also went to Rushbrooke School. Some of the teachers were Mrs. George taught grade 5, Mr. Elliott. Do you remember the Kemps, Chaissons, Diane Redfern, Jim Hendy, Turners, and many others, in reading the above emails, it is great to read the quotes and does it bring back memories. Barbara
