Hi 1jwest, It still exists but has been sold and now is on Central in Lasalle Bronx. The humbugs are still the same. I send them to my sister in Calgary every Christmas. Danny
On the corner of Church and Wellington..second store in across from the church,,was a store that sold bulk chocolate and candies..still there??Think there was a drug store on the corner??
beeaired......when you walked into that ( I called it the biscuit store) the whole store smelled like those maple leaf shaped biscuits with some sort of maple flavoured center........( way better than any oreo, ) they had glass(or plastic ) bins all around the store with every type of cookie you could imagine...........Ya that was a great store to go into.....didn't they sell the broken bits cheap...or was that just the way the cookie crumbled in those days........hahahahah
Thanks for the reply, I used to go there once in awhile with my friend marilyn after school and watch them pull the taffy as marilyn's sister brenda used to work there part time.
Thanks for the info, they used to have hand dipped cherries in chocolate that were divine as well. Didn't they close for the summer as it was too hot for the chocolate? Joyce
used to buy humbugs there too, very seldomsee them in Toronto area Harold >From: "beeaired" >Reply-To: "Verdun Connections" >To: "Verdun Connections" >Subject: Re: candy >Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2005 11:24:26 -0800 >
Joyce: Stilwells still make those fantastic humbugs! The store has now moved to 5th and Centrale in Lasalle. When I was there in September I picked up 8 pounds of them LOL They are a bit pricey but they are soooooooooo good. ($7.95 lb in a bag, $8.00 lb in a box) They will ship to anyone anywhere if you prepay the cost of the candy and the shipping. They will not ship in the summer as the candy sticks together! Connie
Jan 31, 2005. re Stillwells. I think they opened up in Ontario? but there is a small branch of it in LaSalle on Centrale, although I have not been in it (for a couple of years I believe). Darlene
Les, you're right that was the biscuit store. Stillwells was further down on wellington passed the bike store. By any chance does anyone know where I can get milk bottle candies. They were a hard candy, white, shaped like a milk bottle. I loved those candies. Les, I believe your brother Robert was to ask a friend who was in the candy business, that was months ago. I hope all are well and say hi to you mom for me and my mom. Take Care, Kelly
