Can anyone tell me what Halloweens are like now a days? I remember the trick or treating around Verdun was great always lots of kids and lots of people giving out. It was so good that you would have to go home after doing just one side of the street to unload. With the houses so close together it made it really great for the kids. Is it still good? I want to bring my girls to Montreal(Verdun) for it one year. Its been a long time since I have been there.

Hi Cam3122, Verdun is still got to be the best place for Halloween. Many people still go all out with decorations. Some streets are better than others. The kids still do very well in the candy department. When I was going out in the 50's and 60's we used pillow cases and had to empty them a few times because they were too heavy to carry up and down the stairs. Dannyb
Does anyone remember what we said when the door opened to us
(1950s)?
It wasn't trick or treat.

Jan 31, 2005. Hallowe'en in Verdun. Since my kids are long grown, I don't see as much what is going on. Depends on the area I think. People are more conscious about safety and often go just to homes they know. Some have parties. Some parks seem to have parties there for the small kids (Central & Lacharite park in Lasalle, for one). More than that I don,t know but there do not seem to be as many kids on the streets as in my time.
Just picked up on this subject. Yes it was charity please. And back in the early forties there were a lot of homes where they would invite you in, then you had to sing a song before they would give you anything. Our gang on Fourth Ave between Lasalle and Wellington would always sing "God Save the King", mostly because it was short and we could get on to the next place. Some places would have you "dunk" for apples in a big washtub, or try to bite into one hanging from a string. Fun! Fun! Fun! Art
Good Day Art! Someone kept that tradition going into the 70's. I remember
going to a Flat on Willibroard
just before the Apts. above Wellington& below Verdun, Guy there was doing it
and if I'm remembering right I got $5 for getting the apple off the string.
Was wearing Willie's Air Cadet Uniform, last yr I went out untill I had my
children. Would've been around 75' I believe.
