Is the childrens hospital still there? I spent much time there as a young child. I also worked there after I finished school in the medical records dept.

If was ever to win the lotto..have said..would donate a floor in memory of my late daughter..these people there went way beyond the service they gave her.
You never know how many sick children there are unitl you visit a hospital for a year and see floors upon floors of sick children..sad..but its life..

Does anybody remember when the Children's Hospital used to be on the corner of Notre Dame and Guy Streets. How well I remember....spent half my younger life there. This is before they rebuilt it where it is now (on Dorchester/Atwater????).
Hi Mom1945-Linda, What year was it that they built the Childrens Hospital at Dorchester and Atwater. My brother had three open heart operations there between 1959 and 1967 when he past away after his third surgery at the age of 15. Things are so different now. I never new that it was not in this location all the time. Dannyb
Hi Dannyb The year was 1956, and how I remember, that was the last time I had to "visit" the place....I had fallen off the monkey bars at school and had a concussion. Thanks Mom1945-Linda, It is a great hospital. And one we can never afford to loose. With our medical system here in Quebec I would imagine it won't be long before they try to close it and just keep St.Justine's. Danny
Same deal here in Alberta.They built hospitals all over the place,,then closed or demolished them. The U of A has more extensions going on as is the Royal Alex. Trouble is they still close beds...makes sense...N O T !!!
The Montreal Children's Hospital did exist at the corner of Notre Dame and Guy (a branch at the time, perhaps). I remember going there every second Thursday afternoon around 1956 for allergy tests/research. I continued these tests/research for an additional year at the new building when it opened. The building on Cedar Avenue was another branch (I think) associated with the Montreal Children's Hospital (Shriner's?). I had my tonsils out there around 1952 and I remember recovering in a ward there and being able to look out over the city. To this day I can still remember being told to breath in from a balloon - and the next thing I remember was waking up back in the ward with my throat hurting like hell. Mind you, they did feed me ice cream for a day or two. As for the modern day Montreal Children's Hospital, our everlasting thanks go to them for the fact that our second daughter walks without a limp today. Many times over the past 26 years when I have watched her run, play soccer, perform at dance recitals, etc., I have thought back to her operation and the wonderful care she received from the doctors and nurses at the Montreal Children's Hospital when she was only 2 months old.

Actually the Montreal Children's Hospital was on Guy Street at St. Antoine across the street from Belmont School - I walked past it 4 times a day for years going to St. Anthony's School. We used to play on the grounds on Guy Street just above the old Toilet Laundry and Jasmine Vet's.
Main entrance was off of St. Antoine Street - no entrance off Guy street that was all shrubs and bushes and where we played hiding in the shrubs.
The Tupper Street version of the Mtl Childrens was a regular hospiytal before conversio the MCH. my brother had open heart surgery there in 1949 (no heart lung machine so his heart was STOPPED for several minutes using Carere (sp)). It was one of the first like in in world. Problems were resovled by a followup in 1956 at new MCH. Hey Bill you back from the Carib.... How was the trip... do you remember??? Did you drown Frank ????... Do you remember???
Whoops! My mistake. The MCH did have an annex, but it was on the corner of St Antoine and Guy (and not Notre Dame).
Hi Dave: Yes, we're back from St Martin, although one week wasn't enough - something in the order of a year would have been preferable. Gary and I tried to drown Frank in the pool several times but Louise kept rescuing him. We did a rough booze count on the plane ride back: the six of us managed to consume an estimated 5.25 L of dark rum, 2.5 L of scotch, 1.75 L of vodka, 24 beer, and about 30 bottles of wine. The house hadn't changed much, although there was a new blender (I think we wore the old one out the last trip). If I can figure how to transfer photos from my new digital camera, I'll post a couple of photos. Bill
Re: Booze Count: You guys are slipping. We used to consume that in a weekend let alone a whole week... Must be that old age catching up with you...Should have left Louise home ..better success next pool party... Hey you still got the D29??? Or have you smashed it over someone's head since.
Hi Dave: If you are referring to the Martin D28, no I don't have it anymore. I sold it around 1967 to Penny Lang (and have regretted it ever since). The current instrument line up is : Washburn accoustic guitar D28 style - 1995 build (equipped with imbedded pick-up in bridge); Fender Stratocaster electric guitar - 1997 build; Yamaha electric bass guitar - 1983 build; Framus 5-string long neck banjo (Pete Seger folk style) - 1968 build (equiped with imbedded pick-up behind the head) The band did its final gig on St Patrick's 2003 at a local Markham pub (not quite the Hunter's Horn, but still a lot of fun) after 35 years - not a bad run, even if I do say so myself. Too bad about the great classic and VALUABLE Martin. Is PL still performing?? Your D28 was one of the last few that were hand made No America as I recall. It has a great history of survival he he he. Did you here that we are getting a Champ CAr street race in San Jose... Scheduled for July and Joe Leonard is to be the Chief Race Marshall (honorary).Equivslent to Honaray Clerk of the Course in your terms. Apparently my best buddies neighbour is a close friend of Joe. He is in his seventies now.
