February 6,1952 Queen Elizabeth was crowned Queen of England 55 years ago today oh so long ago !!! I remember watching it on the T.V in all the furniture stores on wellington street. They had all of their T.V in the store going all at once.We all stood outside watching in amassment.I think I was up at 4:AM listening to it on the radio.I remember Allies furniture store, Belanger furniture,Fifth Avenue dept store, there was another one on Wellington near Church I think it was called Woodwards ? That was a lot of furniture stores on Wellington street. In later years there was one at 3rd and Wellington forgot the name. That was the days when shopping on Wellinton was the only place to shop or St Catherine street.I still enjoy shopping on a street I don't like malls.

Deedee. The Salvation Army in The Pointe rented a TV for the Coronation. I am sure the people took up a collection to pay for it. My mother was a staunch Royalist, and we were there all day. As a kid, it was great just being able to watch TV in absolute amazement. We felt so lucky that we were indoors, and sitting down, rather than watching thru a store window. Never figured we would be able to eventually have a TV. If I remember, I think the Gills at 844 3rd Avenue, were the first on our street to have one. It was the talk of the street!!!!! WOW!!!!! I remember that day , I was at Rushbrooke school in grade 1 or 2 and all the lower grades were in the theatre room and we watch it on the big screen , maybe it was not live that day , but I do remember watching it at school.
When I was a kid, I had a ViewMaster (remember those?). One of the ViewMaster slide reels that my parents bought for me was the Coronation. Wish I knew where all that stuff is now.
BobB
Hi Bob ...my husband still has his and our kids loved it when they were little. He has the slide reels of the Grand Canyon. He has a couple of others but I am having a senior moment...can't remember off hand the others...!!! I think they were disney cartoons. Dianne
Hi Dianne
Those "geographic" type reels were very popular. About the only way most of us made to places like the Grand Canyon way back when. It was really a very nifty little device for those times.
