Bob Bowles,
The book: Verdun 125 Years of History 1875-2000 is available in English as I found a copy in our library yesterday. However , it may be difficulty to find outside the Montreal general area but you might find it at your local libray in Calgary, if they dont have it, they may able able to order for you. I was going through it yesterday and it is full of interesting photos and facts about Verdun. Enclosed is the cover.

I would like to add that this book is by Denis Gravel, a well known local historian who is a member of our society (SHGV) and we are also working together on the Old 1710 House on LaSalle Boulevard called Maison Nivard-De-Saint Dizier where there are archealogical diggings going on and wich we hope wiil eventually become a Museum project, the only museum wich Verdun could have. Guy
Bonjour, Guy, I'm interested in the book Verdun, 125 Years of History, 1875â200. The LaSalle library has it, but only in French. Can you tell me where I can buy an English copy, please, and an idea of the approximate cost. Merci bien, Jack
Yes Guy ,.is it available directly from SHGV ? , if so I'll have a friend of mine pick a copy up for me......Thanks for the info,. also would it be possible to post the ISBN number of the book,.that can help locate a copy if I can't get one directly from Verdun: HF&RV

Guy I do Remember either hearing about this book,.or maybe you posted something of it,.in the past,... here's some info ,relative to 2 separate books about Verdun To learn more about Verdun's history DEZIEL, Julien, Essai d'histoire de Verdun 1665-1876-1976 , Comit챕 du centenaire, Montr챕al, 1976
GRAVEL, Denis, Verdun 125 years of History 1875 – 2000 , City of Verdun, Montr챕al, 2000, 318 pages .now Denis Gravel, I've heard much about,........but Julien Deziel , I have not,....Do you know much about him or more importantly this Verdun Book , maybe Mr Deziel 's book is available in the SHGV too?? If it's there maybe you can check it out ,as to having Verdun Photo's we haven't found yet? It might just be a a terrific find........................... Thanks Again HF&RV

Les/Guy Just wondering if that book store on Wellington near Chruch Ave. would have it considering he had the WW2 book. Guy maybe you could call the guy. I had his number but cannot find the business card now. I too will order one if I can. Lad
the lad" that's the store my friend's wife found the last Verdun Calendar,& sent it to me,.So I was thinking the same thing ,that the Verdun 125 book might be available there as well,.... ( I thought it was some sort of small library,.but I guess it's a bookstore,....and maybe has a deal with SHGV to retail some of these Verdun type books?? I'll let you know ,when I hear something too: HF&RV

Hi Les ! History of Verdun Julien D챕ziel (1976) Re: Banjo4141 http://groups.msn.com/VerdunConnections/historyofverdunphotos.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=482 http://groups.msn.com/VerdunConnections/profile?user=Banjo4141%E2%9C%93 JM
Yes of course JMH,.,..... I should have known that.........oooops !! and I'm usually suggesting to everyone to have a look through all the things on Our site...........hahahahaha that ones been there for sometime,... Thanks Banjo4141 ( JMH for pointing it out) .......this is another one of the pictures that Banjo posted for us: I will try to keep an eye out for this book,...might be some other interest5ing photo's in there from Verdun's Past................. Have Fun & Remember Verdun
JM We have that book in our library (SHGV) Guy
Les Remember the book store just off the corner of Church and Wellington..right acros from the Church...think its been there for years...going to try and look the number up and let you know if I do.. Lad
the lad: I Remember getting off the bus from school at the corner of Church & Wellington,.and right on the corner (SW) was a sort of pharmacy /store, then heading towards Galt,.just in from the corner was a little store called ' the Lucky Spot' ( I had to pick up my oldman's Montreal Star,.the store had one of those old 'Star Weekly' signs outside,........ could this hae been the store your talking about,.cause they did have magazines ,.& stuff, but it was more just a little store,.but i think closer to Galt was a 'Card Store ' or something ,.then the Biscuit Store ( always smelled like those Maple Leaf Cookies).....but I guess the store your talking about is the same one my friends wife found the Verdun Calendar in?? but it's been quite a while since I even thought of that area, that I'm probably just forgeting the place,. I know that when the Bus stopped at Church Av,.if you got off the back door of the bus,.you could almost walk in the the little newspaper store,...& the front door would bring you into that Store on the Corner..... all these ,were across from the Big Church,...........If I could see a picture of that block from the Church side of the street,.I 'd probably get the old "Oh Yea. that place"..........hahahahahaha Let us know what you find out. HF&RV
Hello,
I called the renaud bray bookstore in Verdun but they only have the french
version. I called City Hall but they were not help at all.
I will keep looking.
Violet
Les Just down from the convience store going towards Galt. Think there is a resto just after the place... The bank is still on the corner.. I called the bookstore before..Phillip who works there told me he has tried to get the book in English for a long time..Told me it is the city who puts it out..they are hard to get hold of...told me send him e-mail and he will let me know when he gets them.Told him sure he would sell a few... Have not heard Star Weekly in years..used to deliver the Star right down to May Street and back along Wellington.Rushbrooke, all around there.Back to Hickson and Verdun Ave, Not bad considering started route at St.Joesph near the Acky Water Works.. Thanks for the prompt Lad
Hi Violet Just sent Les a message echoing what you said about the City. Book store told me same thing very hard to get co-operation from them. Lad
Ya I forgot about the restaurant ,.but vaguely recall it now,.(could be power of suggestion).,hahahaha the Ortuso family lived upstairs ,sort of a hidden 2nd floor gallery,.(one of those 'good galleries' for playing hockey......hahahah Wider than most,......... also just past the bank was a very small 'alleyway' that lead to almost the back yard of a friend of mine's backyard,.who lived on Galt just immediately passed the bank ,.his house looked over towards the City & District Bank ....almost exactly inline with the French school & a little lane that separated the School from the bank... Wayne Howard his name was,......man that goes back to being just a kid,..... YIKES...................hahahahahha Let us know when your buddy calls you,......... Thanks HF&RV
Great Violet Thanks ,...............btwn everyone I'm sure we'll find a stash., HF&RV
Les Will let you know. Lad
