Just wanted to say hi & tell you a bit about myself. I left a message on the "looking for" Giblins of Valiquette that bahama865 put up. That person didn't reply, so I guess he or she isn't around anymore. I grew up on Valiquette St. As a child, I played with Loraine Giblin, Lynn Lean, AnnMarie Daoust, Carol Starzinski & the Salway Brothers & later Steve & Roddy Farrell & Debbie Humpfries. As I grew older, I hung around Kostas too. Around 1964 & onward. Kostas then was owned by two Greek brothers named Johnnie & Denny. There was Dorothy Meenie, Melton Biffin, Brian Spence; Johnnie Spascik, Pat Rodrigue, Jimmy Ramsey, Claude Maassen, Harry Daly & his girlfriend Lorraine Deshane(spelling?) & so many others. We all went to the VCH dances every second Saturday, the legion dances on Fridays, & the Point boys & girls club dances on alternate Saturdays. The only person I've kept in touch with was my best friend since I was 10, her name is Brenda Kenny. We talk at least twice a month, she now lives in LaSalle & I moved to Edmonton in 1976. Do these names ring any bells for anyone?

Hi and welcome, Judy. I grew up on Godin, just south of Kostas. Quite a few names you mention ring a bell; I was in some VCHS classes with Jacques and Chris Maassen - Claude's older brothers, John Spascik lived on Riverview I believe. Ran into Pat Rodrique in Toronto in the 90's, played fastball in the late 60's with Brian Spence. Perhaps I'm a bit older than you but how about the Friday nite dances at the old rec center that was beside St. Thomas Moore church? This was originally the site for St. Thomas Moore school grade 1 students - I attended grade 1 there in 1952-53. Regards Ron Chapdelaine
Hi Ron; I sure did go to the Rec Centre with my best friend Brenda Kenny. I started first grade at St. Thomas Moore in 1955, so I think I'm a little younger than you. I remember the dance finished at 11 p.m. & the priest would come in at that time for prayers before we went home. Judy
Judy, I also recall an older gentleman by the name of Mr. O'Reilly (he may not have been there when you went) who collected the .25 (I think) admission fee and "patrolled" the dance floor later in the evening to make sure couples were not too close when a waltz was playing. The first time he tapped me on the shoulder I thought he wanted to cut in, Ha Ha Ron
Oh boy, do I ever remember him. You had to have a membership for the dances, but you could bring a guest. Before my friend bought her membership I told Mr. O'Reilly I was bringing her in as my guest. He got very stern with me, he said to me "you don't tell me anything young lady, you ask permission from me, so curb your attitude. After that I had a respectiful fear of him. LOL Judy
Hi Judyross2, I recognize quite a few of those names.especially Brian Spence...he is my brother! One of my good friends is Debbie Humphries .we still keep in touch via "real" mail. I ,too went to the dances at the Rec Center. ..yes...boys on one side ;girls on the other ...boy how times have changed!!! Do you know Maureen Breslin. Lately,I've been thinking of getting in touch with her . Well , welcome to VC. I'm sure you will be seeing more names on this site that you will remember, or know. BTW. you have a great memory! I depend on everyone else to do my remembering for me BFN Sharon
Hi Sharon; I heard Debbie married Roddie Farrell, I used to go out with his brother Steven, & we hung out with the Salway brothers Brian & Barry. I don't know if you remember me, short, skinny with long red hair? Judy
Hi Queenee66 (Sharon); Just wanted to ask you to say hi to your brother from Wayne & Judy Stewart (Ross) for us. Also say hi to Debbie Humpfries from Judy. Do you know what happened to Roddy Farrell? All the best in the new year to you & your family. Judy
Hi Judy, I do remember your name ,but (sorry) can't put your face to it? I will say hi to Brian for you,and also toDebbie. Unfortunately Roddy passed away quite a few years ago (again, can't remember the year?) Did we ever hang out together? Did you know Maureen Breslin ,she also lived on Godin? I know the Salway names .I think Brian hung out with them as well as John Spazuk. (he married Kym Fenlon) Happy New Year ! B.F.N. Sharon
Hi, this is Gary Ray. I hung out with Brian Spence, John Spazu occasionaly when we played in a small band for parties. I vividly remember the rec friday night dances, which were a blast. My folks hung out with the Waylans and Highlands. went to lunch at Claude Maassen's house when I was at VCH and watched cartoons.Have such great memories
