thinking of verdun
just reading and looking around, but got to visit friends in verdun and always felt welcome lived in verdun and greenfield park. still find myself thinking of days gone by. if its ok i'll look around for awhile.thanks for letting me join.
verdun4me, Welcome to our world. Get a cup of coffee, set yourself down, and wander through our message boards. Also, take a look at our albums....lots of reliving to do there. Cheers.
verdun4me, I remember a friend in Connaught School moving to Greenfield Park. I remember thinking that it must be some sort of swanky place, far far away! Of course I lived in Ville Emard my whole life, and anywhere else seemed so much more interesting. Funny how your perspective changes when your Mom finally lets you cross the street and you get to leave your own neighbourhood. I have since found out that G.P. is like any other neighbourhood.
My kids where brought up in Greenfield Park and played sports there and my Daughter was involved with the Cheerleaders. There names where Donna,Bob,Bill & Allen Elson did you know any of them? Margo
just dropping in. this place sure brings a lot of old memorys to mind. i like the barbarn menu. that was when you had a special nite out.more likelyto be a hotdog inverdun lol i rember a chinese restaurant in vile emard,on church.and aplace ingreenfield park called kennywongs .seems everybody goes out to eat now more money i gues i wonder if it is even a treat anymore. i will stop in again it is like going home for a visit
Verdun4me, here is the Chinese food place in Ville Emard/Cote St.Paul, as of Juy 24th 2005. Many a pig-out were had at the Silver Dragon................ ......have not been in there for 30 years. mpu
Boy that Silver Dragon sure looks like a Tired Dragon. I can remember many a cold winter day waiting at the busy stop along Church Ave. I wonder how long it has been there? It looks a lot smaller than I remember it. Cheers.
I found htat as well,.whenever I've gone back for a visit,.everything seems a lot smaller,....and the distance to Downtown,..was relatively short,...you can see the high rise bldgs, from Wellington St in Verdun...........nothing is really that far,........Do you Remember the tables in the old 'Moustache' on Closse St,across from the Forum,....we thought they were big at the time,....but really they were quite small.but you only needed to keep your beer on them ...........hahahaha
thats theplace i rembr . it was really lit up at night just like vegas lol. anthr place was on decarie rd .the slvr dragon looks a little tired now,but i suppose my reflectionin its window might reveal a more tired look to lol. thank you multiperposeutencil.
Hi Verdun4Me ,...are you thinking of Ruby Foos, up on Decarie Blvd,? I remember it being considered a sort of Fancy Night out type of place,.....mind you in those days as mentioned , Going out was an event of sorts,....because otherwise ,it was always so east to just order -in,.......and the food always seemed, Excellent........and cheap when you think of it,....Although Chinese was always more expensive than a Pizza from Rex's............hahahahah I Remember going to eat Egg Rolls at 'Golden City Restaurant' in Ville Lasalle,......corner of 5th and Centrale,.........later it was called Lai Lings,...........and they had Great Egg Rolls,........We sure had some good food places available to us ,.....(whether it was healthy........that's debatable.......hahahah) After a couple of 'gros cinquantes' or 'gros mol' whatever the preferance then,.....up at the old '50' Club ,.....'the Cinquantes'.......it was a quick hop over to the Restaurant at 5th,.....for a feed........ Have Fun & Remember Verdun..........
Verdun4me. Welcome aboard. Tell us about yourself. Where you grew up, where you live now, people you grew up with, and maybe would like to get in touch with. There is a lot of help on here, and you might even know some of the Verdunites that are on here now. Winston Allison

Apparently the old 'Kenny Wongs Restaurant ' was closed & torn down,.... ...it 'met' it's demise,............ ......but it seems ,..that they must have ,built a new place,....cause I did find this address,....for a Kenny Wong's Restaurant ,....on Taschereu Blvd,.......same owner??? I don't know,...but here's the link, http://www.jgosolutions.com/5146760301/index.html Hope that's of some interest. HF&RV
Verdun4Me, I don't know if it was you that mentioned the City Hall in Greenfield Park, but yes, I used to go to GP by bicycle from Verdun, as my aunt lived just one block away, and I used to go "play" in the old Chambly Transport busses at the garage at the end of Churchill. These busses were rejects from Montreal after many years of use. I went by the City Hall/Police/Fire stations today and took some pics..... Charles Lemoyne Hospital.........mpu
Not sure what is happening. Tried to reply to a message, and it told me I was in a "Members Only" site. Now, my puter was sick and we had to remove some spyware, so I don't know if that's the reason, so please bear with me while I figure this d%$#ed computer out.

Be careful Linda N,......admitting to one step,..may have some want to suggest to you the other eleven...........hahahahaha Good Luck ,if you think there's something we can do to help, then fire away,....and I'll see if I can do something from this end. but your old ID should still be Ok,....but you may also have to 'actua;lly sign out' of any ID you are in,.then try signing back in under your old ID,.......the good news is if you are successful then you can post a bunch of pictures,...and use that memory space allotted each member ID,.. Have Fun & Remember Verdun,........ catch you all a little later I'm going to watch some show on TV ( so Teresa has informed me............hahahahaha)
Okay, y'all, I passed the first step. My name is Mom 1945-Linda. Really!!! Sorry for the nuisance postings while I was trying to find out who I am. It's now 10:30 pm, and I can go on with life knowing who I am. Cheers,
Good morn'in everybody, Isn't it good that I know who I am? Fast learner...only did Step 1...to heck with the other 11 steps. hehehe I was trying to reply to MPU last evening. That pic of Charles LeMoyne Hospital really conjures up some bad memories or me. When my daughter was 2 months old she stopped breathing (SIDS) and that was the winter of 70/71 (bad snow year). The police came and got her and took her to that hospital as it was too far and too much snow to try the Children's Hosp. They kept her there for over 1 month, so I practically lived there. But all worked out okay in the end, but boy the memory of that hospital!!!!!
those gp pictures sure make it easier to rmbr the old place. i didn't rembr gp being linked with longueil ? charles lemoyne hosp.very familiar bldg and lucky for me i've nevr had to go there. regent st,funyy how the names pop back in your mind, thanks for the visit.
the mention of freezing rain reminds me of a time crossing the champlan bridge during a freezing rain storm and nearly sliding throuhg those toll booths then having to go over the high part of the bridge.that was scary ,do they close the bridge at all now,or just salt and use sand.it was always a pain to live in gp.but today would be even more busy.i don't like the rush hour, ansd never did.
OK i think i See what you mean, I have sorry ikeep turning on my caps key. ;i have ben going in thourhg myname and it shows me my messges but now i see the other one,.ok Now im getting it alittle; reading all the icons helps;Ill get it ; Thanks; Sonow ican go in any mesage and answer it from there ; that helps ; i was able to read them ; and i see others in and out of conversations so i new it would get to me soone ror later ;lol i'll practice more Thnks for your help. ; Ill check back in on ;monday ; maybe even seem smarter lol
i think snow or rain sunny or not .thers always areason to enjoy your day.i rembr those winter days cold but the sun sometimes would shine and make one wintre day seem difrent for m a nother ; rmbr whenn the nite would be clear andd cold.when it was cloudy you would know the snow would be coming. skating was the fun as a kidbut snow ball fights now that was fun to ; the snow had t be the sticky stuf ; i hated the cold creaky snow that would break under your footprint ; it was difrent in gp. than when you went to montreal. the snow always seem to stay longer in greenfld pk ; growing up was ; lol.
I just love, love, love fresh snow - on an evening walk - and it just sparkles and glints like diamonds. Especially so in the light under a lamp post or when there's a bright moon shining in the sky. I used to feel like I was walking in a winter wonderland. Cheers.
bubbacut, These are all the tears I'll be crying if you send snow this way. Of course the tears will only add to the water level out here. Oh well, can't win them all. Cheers.
