You Really Worry Me Geniegal !!

Hi Geniegal,

I have started writing a reply several times to your offensive message
and have erased it rather than lower myself to your level. I would have to say
though that you really should open a history book before blowing off steam! One
question for you to answer ... who was involved in W.W.II first, Canada or USA
(my home)! and what was it that drew them in? Wouldn't you have done the same?

I could go on, but I refuse to become involved in a battle of wits with an
opponent who is unarmed!

I have complained about this forum becoming political before and turning
into a site to criticize and unfortunately, it seems to be taking that twist
again.

When you paint an entire race, nationality, religious group,
etc. based upon the actions of the minority, you are being as judgmental as
the extremists you are criticizing!

I can only suggest that you take the blinders off and see there really
is good in all people of the world (this might just be a value
I possess due to experiencing the diversity of living in the multicultural
community of  Verdun).

You might also want to listen to what Gordon Sinclair had to say regarding
the US. No matter how long ago it was said, it still speaks volumes.

Always a Verdunner at heart, just living south of the border and
LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

Regards,

Alan

Sandy. Good morning from Vancouver, Washington. What a great day it is to be an American and/or a Canadian. We are so very lucky and blessed to be in such wonderful countries. We hit the jackpot, that is for sure. As Tiny Tim said; "God Bless Us Everyone"!!!!!

Find a local pizza place, movie theater, and more….then map the best route!

I have obviously missed something , let me go on record as saying I love the good ole U S A , not sure if Bush is my cup of tea, nor do I think Harper is either. I often wonder , what I would have done as President of the U S A after 9/11 , I sure as hell would not have let it happend a second time, tough decisions for sure , its easy to pass judgement , when one is not involved, hang tough Archie   ,   Jimmy

Hi, Alanarchie, Please reread my missive carefully and you will see I am not condemning Americans but I am condemning American foreign policy as I have seen it practiced during my lifetime.   In my never to be humble opinion, America, in its  fear of communism, became a bully in its own right.  And what I said was, noone likes a bully.  That being said, it doesn't excuse 9/11 nor does 9/11 excuse Iraq. As for who was participating in WW II first, Canada was involved from the getgo in early September 1939 while the US waited until Pearl Harbour on Dec. 7, 1941 to throw its much valued support into the battle against two other bullies, Japan and Germany. Come on Geniegal, you are not comparing the US foreign policies with the Nazis, Stalinists or the Khmer Rouge?

Btw Canadian troops entered the war in December 1939 -- my father among them Many months after the Scandinavians and Eastern Europe where involved. What does the timeline really mean. We all eventually made a combined effort to destroy the evil freedom hating aggressors.

I was wrong on the timeline. Canada did declare war on Germany in September.Bill

No, Biking.  What I am saying is that, no matter what the reasons behind it, US foreign policy seems to have left a mess, and therefore enemies, everywhere in the world it has interfered with other sovereign nations.  But my main reaction to the piece that started  me on this topic is that I see history repeating itself once again.  WW I, German-Americans and German-Canadians  suspected by their neighbours of allegiance to "the enemy" with consequent violence inflicted on innocent people.  WW II, Japanese-Canadians and Japanese-Americans interned, Italian-Canadians and German-Canadians interned, even, for pete's sake, German-Jewish refugees who had fled to England for safety sent to an internment camp in the New Brunswick bush.  So here we are again.  Looking at every Muslim with the question in our minds, "Are you a terrorist?"  Whatever happened to that grand democratic notion of innocence until guilt is proven?  Why are we so fearful?  Because something MIGHT happen?  If women reacted with that kind of fear every time we go out, men would have been interned years ago!  Why can't we just let our secret services do their jobs, as they seem to have been successfully doing, and carry on getting to know our Muslim neighbours without this panic response that we're all going to die?  Yes, be vigilant ... with everything that could be a threat ... muggers, street gang drive-bys, drunk drivers, vicious dogs.  And mostly be vigilant aginst fear. Geniegal. You said that very well. You know if you had said what you just posted, in the first place, then that would have been accepted as being non aggressive.  In fact, would for me been a very good subject to seriously ponder. Your original post, if you go back and look, was a who do these American bullys think they are. They have done nothing for this world, other than invade countries and kill and maim just because they are nothing but bullies. RAH RAH RAH. Anyways, I think once again we have beaten a dead horse, and have really gotten away from our love of this site. And that is Verdun. As anything else the spirit of Verdun always comes thru. We can all sit back and have pride in all that our vets have done. And I don't think we would get any argument with how loved our Canadian vets  are, and have given much for Canada. Our vets here in the USA, have also given
an equal measure, as you go around the world and see the graves of our fallen heroes, in all the different countries.

Hi geniegal9,

My point was that the USA takes a lot of abuse because of its policies and
sometimes its actions. You can thank the good old USA for its aggresssive
stand against of the spread of communism, because I don't think Canada or
any free country could have done it completely on its own. Just ask anyone who
has lived under it. If keeping our country free makes us a bully in your eyes,
let me ask you what you would do is someone walked up to you and punched
you in the face. I would punch them right back.. but harder! Does that make me a
bully? I don't think so.
I don't want to see Verdun Connections become a political forum, so I
will end it with this question. How many battles has the USA started?
Feel free to contact me directly if you want.. aarchib470@aol.com

Regards,

Alan

Hi, AlanArchie, We've been punching each other in the face for milennia now and we don't seem to have got anywhere. Maybe that's just human nature.  But there has to be a better way.  One that doesn't include retalliation and that reduces suffering instead of increasing it.  If we can think it, maybe we can make it happen.  Any ideas out there? Altough I agree with the opinions for everyone to speak their mind I find it hard to read through these discussions Our opions are greatly needed at this time but our site I find is not for us to debate what is and waht shoukld be. I don't often comment on these things but I find that to tear down ones opinion does not really reflect the way this site was intended. I look and read this site everyday and find that the more we try and find the old memories of the old Verdun alot more greater than all this political B&& S&& For those that agree THank You. for the others I stiil think that your imput is great but lets get back to Verdun   Roy

You are very astute to bring this matter of content to the attention of the management.....

It would probable be very revealing to run a survey to see how few people really support this waste of bandwidth , classed as deviance from the group topic .

And it especially profound that your childhood home was just behind Allen Arche (sp) if I am not mistaken.....
If I remember correctly your parents bought it from the McCready (sp) family....next door to Leo and Nellie ?

So we have all come full circle...
