CKVL
I was in Verdun last week and was told there was no more CKVL! I don't know if the "station" is gone, but the building sure is! See attached picture!
VerdunReader9 Hi Art,......that picture is weird to contemplate,..but the direction your pointed in ,is almost exactly directed towards what would have been my back yard (sans sheds et al)........of course Our building has been long gone ,.since 1968 I beleive ...the one along Wellington,........and strange to see that nothing has been started on the old CKVL lot,.....I wonder why ,in a day & age of expensive and well located real-estate? Thanks for taking the time to take & share that picture with us..............Much Appreciated..................................>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I sure prefer the old look ( at least for now):Oddly enough & quite appropriate ,considering the building is gone now,.... that there is nothing on the Marquee...............................YIKES hahahahahaha Have Fun & Remember Verdun
I remember that on Saturday morning CKVL had a youth talent show called "Call Me Uncle". I seem to recall that it was broadcast from a small house or hall that I think was on Verdun Avenue? I had my 15 minutes of fame there with some good friends when I think I was about 9 or 10. We sang " Moments to remember" and wond a budgie that had to be in 3 places at once. Poor bird! There was a man in the radio audience who recorded our singing and I remember he called my Dad and said he had a copy of our recording and that we could go to his home and pick it up for a small fee. We had that little record for over 30 years. Great memories! Susie
Hi Susie, here's a shot of the old CKVL building from many years ago,.....it was located on Gordon Avenue ,just past the lane ,on the left hand side of Gordon if your facing the River,....about 200 ' from Wellington & Gordon intersection,......... I'm not sure of the exact address,..maybe one of our other members will know it,..........and many kids from Verdun got to enjoy those Saturday Shows,.............neat old memories: Have Fun & Remember Verdun
how sad...i was so happy to this in the pictures earlier today...when i was very young my sisters and i use to sing on that station...i remember going down on a sunday.."call me uncle" i think was the name of the radio show..i must have been..8..my sisters 10..12..
Les, I was listening to Ian Punnett on Coast To Coast yesterday. Some guy who claimed to have contact with Aliens from Outer Space said that the Aliens will invade the United States in 2012. Ian jumped in and asked if the Aliens could invade Canada first? If we all get wiped out in 2012 just remember you heard it here first-Fresco
Here is a picture of the lot where the CKVL building used to be. I took this photo last January after the buiding was demolished. Of course, that is the Mgr Richard school in the background wich still exhist and was converted to a condo bldg. Guy
