hi Shirley (toohey)......... I delivered a few pizza's for only a few nights, because there regular guy was off or just mot there,.....and we did this by 'foot' as I was too young to drive legally then(still a young teen really)but the orders were usually within a few blocks of the Restauarantand I soemwhat recall the Jukebox avaialble at each booth as well as the counter,..???? but DannyB (one of our members I think worked for them later on ............... so Second Ave Restaurant,..........you bet we Remember it?\now Shirley I see your last name ,..and I have (for some reason) a recollection of a Diane C,...............(maybe a sister's friend,...but I'm not sure ,just sounds familiar I guess: Welcome to the VerdunCionnections site Btw: Have Fun & Remember Verdun ps: any pictures to share with us???????? You know ,run of the mill,Verdun / Montreal/ stuff or just plain old Growing Up Back East Stuff
I meant to mention, that I think I heard 'Born to be Wild ' by Steppenwolf.on that 2nd av Restaurant Jukebox..................and the flip side was 'Magic Carpet Ride'.........................none of which were played to death, hahahahahahha Have Fun & Remember Verdun when they first came out I might add,........circa 67 - 68 ish ????
Les We just got cable and used to watch a show from the U.S. Where the Action Is. Paul Revere and the Raiders were the house band. First time I heard Born to be Wild was on there. Down to Buckley's and got it.You are right might have played it once or twice. Good Canadian band too.. Lad
Buckley's must have done well,.with all us kids spending whatever dough we had on records,......and picking up the Hit Parade List ,which I think was updated every week?? HF&RV
I do remember the 2nd Ave resaurant. Not really a "hang-out" for me though. I was down at Prince George most of the time, or Kosta's when I was working at Bannantyne Pharmacy near Godin. Are you related to Debbie Toohey (used to live on 1st near the City Hall)? I've been trying to get in touch with her for quite some time.
We used to hang out at second avenuue pizza. There was Shirley and Nellie Douglas, Tim Cunningham, Stan Holdaway, Tery Brushette and others. The owners name was Peter and they made a great pizza or fries with gravy. Jim Jennings
