If we have anyone living in Vancouver that would take a picture for me, I would love to have a shot of my little home for two years at 250 Carson St. In South Burnaby. It was a stucco bungalow and I called it my little gray home in the west. My wife got homesick for Verdun and I moved back to Quebec. Within two days of the time she told me she was homesick I sold the house, bought a truck and moved us back. I loved it out there. I ran Vancouver to Calgary and Edmonton for two years. The money was great. The weather was great, but happiness is more important. Ed

I thank you very much. I think their must have been some changes. When I lived there Carson was a series of short streets. On the map I see today it seems to be one street. I see that an old friend of mine is listed at 5357 Carson and he was directly across the street. It was between Royal Oak and McPherson. It is not the end of the world if we can't do it but thank you again . Ed

You are in luck Ed cause, We Verdunites are everywhere! Believe it or not I live in the 5500 block of Marine Drive in Burnaby. As you might remember Carson is just three blocks up from there. About a five minute walk to your "Little Grey House in the West", up the steep part of Royal Oak. This is probably your greyish/tan stucco which is directly across the street from 5357 Carson. The place looks well maintained. Looks like the view is still pretty good. I'm curious to know when you were you living there? I grew up in Verdun on Allard ave. Born in 52 and headed west in 76 during the big Anglo Exodus. My family is still in Verdun whom I visit periodically. A lot of changes have taken place in this area of Vancouver well and all over for that matter. Let me know if you would like me to send you any more pics of places around the area. J.O.

Hey JohnnyO, Thanks a million. The picture caused a lump in my throat. Brings back a time when my wife was alive and the kids were young and happy. I have printed it out and mounted it on the wall. It's great that you went out of your way for me. If I can return the favour say the word. Ed
Nice Play Shakespeare............... JohnnyO ,.that's real decent of you, great pics,............another Verdun ite ,..helping out,..........Good Stuff.
John. I lived in Burnaby in 68-70. At that time the bus from Vancouver came once per hour. Without a car you were lost. Kingsway was the main drag. The quickest way downtown was Marine Drive to Granville. Ed
Ed. I didnt go out of my way at all. Hell its just around the corner. In fact I was delighted to do it for you. And believe it or not I was really excited when I saw that your "little house in the west" was still there in tack and I could send you a pic. I can send you a higher resolution if you like. I had to downsize it to send to Verdun connections. You wouldn't believe how much this area has changed. When i first came here some 20 years ago, it was way out in the boonies. All farms along marine drive. Now there are a few only and they are fast disapearing with industrial and shopping complexes replacing them. Marine drive is still the fastest way to downtown but Cambie is the street you want to head up now. The #100 Marine Drive bus comes every 20 minutes now. Kingsway is still a Main artery and there is a safeway on the corner at Royal Oak on the far side of Kingsway. There's a place called Metrotown Centre which is located where Sears was / is. Its the second largest shopping mall complex in North America. This area in now the hub of the greaterVancovuer district. If you would like any more pics of places around town let me know. J.O.
