Drake Car Wash

Les,
You are right, the Drake Car Wash was owned by f Lucien Caron, the former Vedun councillor, Mayor and Provincial MP, who died a couple of years ago. I knew him, having gone to the same school, Notre Dame du Cénacle wich was on Bannantyne between Church and Hickson and was demolished to be replaced by an apartment or condo building. He also owned the Garage and Gas Station at the intersection of Lavérendry, Drake and Church. His wife donated his personal scrap book to our society, the SHGV, wich includes many  photographs of himself and colleagues appearing at various public functions.
Not to be forgotten, are the 2 taverns at the corner of Drake and Church wich many Verdunites are surely familiar with.
I am very familiar with this area, having been born on Joseph, lived on Bond now Évangéline and Galt corner Bannantyne. The gang used to cross the aqueduct bridge on Church to go swimming in the Lachine canal during the war years.
I am including a list of Verdun street names showing their original names, courtesy SHGV.

Thanks Guy ,...a lot of name changes ,i wasn't aware of ,.a few I do recognize(or have heard of),......................... As for the two Taverns,............ I'm familiar with both,..the one on the NE corner of Church was called the Drake Tavern,....and the other across the street of course was the Churchill (later Laverendrye, now Cote st Paul) Tavern,........ The Drake actually seemed to have really cold draught beer............... ...but not as Cold as the Ropery Street Tavern in the Point ,where they had their own Large Frosted Mug (with a proper handle) and they called it a 'popsicle' cause of the Frost all over the glass...................... always more impressive on a Hot Humid Montreal Summer Day.......................................... ...........Cheers !!!!

Les, The fond memories you mention go right to the bottom of my tongue. The best draft I know of today is at P.J.'s on Upper Lachine. When I go there (Rarely) my tongue is hanging out. No, it's not because they have waitresses who can carry a tray without using hands.  Well, maybe.                  Ed

Hi guys - Just after I moved from the Benny Cresc. Apartments in 2000  I  heard the Alsatian  had a fire and closed.  The last time I was in the area there was a donut shop and automotive store in the place.   PJs pub was further west along St Jacques next to a Super C, across from  the Motel Raphael.
