An old school in Verdun
Hello !
Is there someone who remembers that school in Verdun ?
Jim, I think that school could be around 5th and champlain in Verdun, I recall riding my bike over the 4th avenue bridge from the other side of the aqueduc, heading towards Bannantyne, that school looks familiar to me, if it is the one I am thinking of, it was a french school........but then again, I just had my 65th birthday, so my memory has left the building!!(smile)........ cookie
Ed, you’re right ! It is École Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix (elementary) located at 454 Caisse St., Verdun. Ed, do you remember the other French school (elementary for boys) at 3500 Wellington ? I’m looking for a pic of that school (now Résidence Réal-Morel for the Elderly). JM
I remember the school JM. It disappeared about the time they opened the high school for French boys and girls located behind Canadian Tire. The new school is a model of what high schools should be. The students are made responsible for their behaviour from the time they leave home until they return home. You will see them walking down the street so well behaved and polite. I watched them push a man's car the other day and all refused payment. I felt sorry for them on good snowball days, one boy told me that it's taboo. For many it has been a last chance and the turn around has been wonderful. It's possible Real Morel may have a picture It's the modern practice to take before and after with new buildings. Ed
I seem to remember that Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix was at 3500 Wellington just west of a Ford dealership. Parc Rheuame (spelling incorrect) was behind the school. Sonny Martin
