Springtime Verdun ...everything's new

Remember the streets would start to be cleaned ,.the sidewalks swept to rid them of all the sand used over the Winter,.......and the City Workers would actually walk block after block sweeping the sidewalks,..to the curb where the big Street Sweeper would come along to stir up that dirt & sand, and get those Verdun Streets ready for everyone to walk again,........without wearing big boots,....and shedding the big coats too...........
Verdun was a fairly clean City (not counting the lanes)...........hahahahah
Soon the Boardwalk ,would be pressed back into service, with afternoon walks by the old folks (probably younger than most of us are now).........hahahahah
but the Redtops,.....and the French Frie spots would be getting ready to fire up their business's .....................a bag of Fries (again loaded with the Vinegar & Salt)...............and walking down Wellington Street.....................

Les, I've been waiting for the coming of spring but every time I looked out front I saw eight foot snowdrifts and went back to bed. But after reading your post I looked again. It's where they piled the snow along Maxi's parking lot all winter and sure enough there's no snow any where else. Thanks for letting me know, I'll go to Nick's and have breakfast. Ed

Les   Dont forget the water spraying truck that would come along and wash the streets too. Always left that wet smell after he passed. Thanks for the memories..   Used to look forward to this time of year meant bringing out the bike for another year..now people ride all year long.. could not see doing that in a Verdun winter...   Lad

Yes  the old water truck,............it will be a few more months yet,.before the kids can really appreciate the water truck like we did as kids ,.lining the street were kids with their heads poked out between the parked cars,.awaiting the water truck to jump over the spray................little early for that yet, I have found a few pics of water trucks over the years and have posted some,.but We haven't really come across a really good one from the late 50's early 60's era,............So if anyone out there has one poste 'er up please             Good spring memory

Lad. Are you kidding. I use to ride my bike all year long. Even took a job with Leduc pharmacy on Church and Wellington during the winter. Work from 7:00p. to 11:00pm. almost every night for awhile. Being the only ENGLISH kid, they would send me to the farthest houses away. I can't remember how many trips I made to LaSalle. We made 25 cents an hour, and tips. But of course, I made a lot less that the other kids, because they would get all the orders that were right close to the drug store. Never complained though!!!!!
