Hi Beeaired, You mentioned on one of your replies that you knew the Carrolls on Rushbrooke street. Mrs. Carroll was a very good friend of my mother. I think she had a couple of children but I knew Wayne. He was an amateur wrestler and also one of the best I must add. He was also an excellent football player and probably one of the best football guards for his size. He was very strong and also won The Montreal Gazette Award for best football players in Montreal High Schools. Are these the same Carrolls that you knew and if so do you know where Wayne is? Reggie Paine
Hi Verdun Reader 9, Your name Art Dawe. My brother in law (now deceased) was Kenneth Dawe.Any relation? He was in Canadian Army and was a prisoner in WW2 in Hong Kong. Reggie Paine
I knew a Wayne Carroll (not well), we used to go out to his place (near Lakefield) and get pine trees to decorate St. Clement's Church at Christmas time. Do you think this is the same Wayne? I can't imagine him as a football player or wrestler though.
I have to agree with you on Wayne Carroll..he was tall and gangly in school with me..a little shy.Had an older brother Earl??Lived next to the Brown's on Rushbrooke.
WAS BORN AT 5629 VERDUN AVENUE IN "57 (ANYBODY THAT PLAYED NORMAN DAWE HOCKEY IN THE 50's AND EARLY 60's REGISTERED THERE, MY GRANDMOTHER WAS MARTHA LIDDELL SEE PIC IN OLD NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS).MOVED TO 1074 ALLARD IN LATE 60's, GOT MARRIED IN 79 MOVED TO JOHN F KENNEDY IN LASALLE AND IN 82 MOVED TO THE SOUTH SHORE ,ST HUBERT,WHERE I AM NOW.MY DAD STILL RESIDES IN VERDUN ON BANNANTYNE AND BEATTY. Here is a picture of 866Third Ave.second floor far right.
Hi, Everyone! I lived at 1032 Melrose (between Bannantyne and Champlain) from 1944 until I got married in 1967, the year of Expo. My wife and I stayed with my foster parents for one year, then moved to LaSalle, then to N.D.G., where we lived with my wife's ailing father. We moved to LaSalle in 1973 and have been here ever since. Regards, Jack Haines
Born at 6328 Bannantyne Ave (between Rolland and Valiquette) in 1954, was there till 1974. Moved to 2nd Ave till I got married in 1977. Moved to lasalle, can't remember name of street. Then in 1978 moved to Victoria (Vancouver Island) and have been here ever since
Hello Wendy Jo! Well I gather that not all of us did move to T.O. after all. There seems to be quite a few out here in Beautiful B.C. I left Mtl. in 83' moved to Calgary then moved to Powell River in 93'
I lived at 366 4th ave in verdun moved to lasalle in 197O moved back to verdun in 1972 to 1074 allard moved again in 1985 to lasalle broadway and 6th for 2 years back to verdun to 1294 rolland where I live now.
I was born in England, lived on 3rd avenue below Wellington 1951-9; Brown Blvd , 9th Ave, LaSalle; Moffat ........ moved to my own apartment on Woodland in '66; Decarie & Van Horne; McGregor (now Dr.Penfield) & Mountain, St.Matthew near Ste.Catherine; Tupper near St.Matthew; Greenfield Park while married; divorced, moved back to Crawford Park on Leclair; sold & moved to NDG where I have been for the last 15 years.
Hello Tiny Tina, So you decided to come to beautiful B.C. also. I don't think there are too many of us here, most people I know went to Ontario or Calgary. I still have 6 siblings living in Montreal 2 of them are still in Verdun, as a matter of fact one of my brothers still lives at our old address 6328 Bannantyne. Have fun and remember Verdun Wendyjo
Hello wendyjo,......I have been out here for 30+ years,..and have met tons of Montrealers,...over the years,.....Vancouver has a large influx of us ,.........as well as over here on Vancouver Island,........There's lots of us around,.....it's just were getting older,.and not covering as much fround as we used to,......or out & about patying,...like I was apt to do growing up (sort of).............HF&RV
Hello Les F I am glad to hear that many of us old Montrealers are living out here and that you have met them. You are lucky because I have been here since 1978 and I have only met 2 other people from back home. I guess maybe it is where we live or the kind of employment we are in. Wendyjo...............HFandRV
wendyjo, Tell us a bit about yourself, where you live, etc. I'm out here on Vancouver Island where Les_F lives, but of course he lives in the rich and affluent end of the island, on the other hand, I live half way up the island where life is a bit slower, the folks a bit poorer, lol. By-the-way...none of us sure do look good naked anymore....hahaha. Cheers.
Hi wendyjo,....I have met a lot of people ,.but in the early years there was a lot of influx to Western Canada, for many reasons,..,but I met a lot of Montrealers,.as I mentioned,.and then of course when you get talking you find out that they knew someone who had come out here as well,......(and they tell 2 people , & they tell 2 people.............next thing you know you either have nice hair,..or you've met a lot of people.......... ( it's an old TV ad........hahahaha) many a party was attended by transplanted Montrealer's,..........I had to laugh one night many years ago I was having a party,.and I would guess somewhere around 60 people or so ,and the majority of them were Montrealers,....and I guess the party ( as apt to happen ,in those days) was continueing late into the night,.....and apparently some people in another community, didn't like the music anymore,......hahahaha So of course the Gendarmes make an appearance,.....and when the cop comes in to talk to me,.everyone here's his 'distinct' accent,....and we accomodate by having a long discussion with him in English & French,.....and invitew him & his shift partner,..to come in & have a beer,.......we turned the music down slightly,..and the guy was so happy to walk into a back east type party,....that his last words to us were.........Hey, av Fun,& Im not coming back ere tonight.......... So you can meet ex-pats everywhere,...............So the party went on & we had a laugh that here the guy was expecting to run into just a party,.and left laughing and having a ball ,knowing we were 'aving a ball' .....and the party didn't slow down ,while they were visiting.................but all nighters are now only in ,the memory bank.....unless of course an impromtu get together happens,,,,,............hahahaha --HF&RV--
Les_F Paranoid....are we? Actually I have a reasonably good memory, and I seem to think wendyjo at one time made reference to the posting to "naked". But, I guess the comment pertained more to my anatomy than anyone else's. HF & RV as you would say. Cheers.
Hello Mom1945-Linda You want to know a little about me. Well I grew up in Verdun on Bannantyne between Rolland and Valiquette. I have 8 other siblings. I went to Riverview school from 1960 to 1968 then to Verdun High from 1968 to 1970 and did my last two years at Rosemount High because I took a Nursing course there. I worked at the Montreal General.from 1972 until 1978. I got married in 1977 and my husband and I moved to Victoria in 1978. I worked at the Royal Jubilee hospital in Victoria until January of 2004 and then went off on disability due to neck problems and chronic migraines. We live in Langford. We have two Daughters. The eldest is 25 and is at U.B.C working on her P.H.D in Chemistry and my youngest is 23 and is going to school in Alberta taking Business Management and Administration. That is pretty much of it all in a nut shell. I don't know if anyone knew me or my family but my maiden name was Gibbs. HF and RV Wendyjo
I went to school with David Gibbs.... your brother? If so, how is he & where is he? If you are in touch, please give him my best regards and try to get him to join in with us.
Hi Alan, I just read your message. Itr is great to hear from someone whom knew one of my siblings. David is still living in Quebec. He is in Masscouch. He is Married with 2 daughters they are I think 13 and 10 not sure. I don't see them much, besides they speak french and I don't. He also has a 30 year old daughter from a previous marriage. He is doing great and when I saw him last year he looked great. I will say hi to him from you. Wendyjo
I grew up on Egan Avenue, moved to Bannantyne and Egan when I was 10, then on to Galt and Bannantyne when I was about 16 or 17.
I left Montreal in 1979 to live in BC, stayed here until 1982 and then moved to California, Texas, back to California, then back to Vancouver in 1989. I didn't plan on staying here when I returned, but it's been 16 years now. I know i can still do it.
I don't know that I'd move back to Montreal, not being able to speak French, but I do have the best memories of my home town.
I lived in Verdun for most of my life. Grew up there and stayed even after I married (the first time) and had kids of my own. Got divorced, met my wonderful American man, moved to Virginia and was married again. Been here almost 3 years now and love life on a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We will be returning to Canada to retire tho, probably not Quebec to make it easier on my hubby, most likely rural Ontario near the water somewhere as hubby is an avid fisherman.
Hi Sharon, For the last 9 months I have been spending a lot of time in Cornwall Ontario, and would highly recommend it as a place to retire. I have been living in Deux Montagnes for over 21 years, but I have taken quite a liking to Cornwall, perhaps even might consider retiring there, although I very much still love Montreal and surrounding areas, especially Verdun. Ralph.
sharron, your name sounds familiar, where in the blue ridge mtns? my hubby grew up in galax va went to lynchburg college, naval academ,y ,rhode island, then DEA [NORFOLK OFFICE] love to hear from you, carolyn bennett]` bannantyne& valiquette.wish some of you people would tell us who you are, like, real names. please.

This might be the same family. they had a huge yard on Rushbrooke..next to the Brown's. There was a comment on Wayne in here where he was methinks??
The Wayne Carroll that I knew of would have been about 20 years older than me. I am checking on his status, will get back to you.

Lived at 1192 Allard for about 13 years before moving to Kingston, On. Husband Ross was transferred by Nortel. Still in Kingston but miss Mtl.
Lived @ 1240 allard from 1965 until we moved to Burlington, Ontario in 1981.
So you can meet ex-pats everywhere,...............So the party went on & we had a laugh that here the guy was expecting to run into just a party,.and left laughing and having a ball ,knowing we were 'aving a ball' .....and the party didn't slow down ,while they were visiting.................but all nighters are now only in ,the memory bank.....unless of course an impromtu get together happens,,,,,............hahahaha --HF&RV--
Mom have you been peeking.........hahahahah Arbutus has that song posted here somewhere,...I'll try to find it ,if I can Hope this file has it,......

Hi Wendyjo,
I went to school with David Gibbs.... your brother? If so, how is he

Wendyjo
Hi,
I grew up on Egan Avenue, moved to Bannantyne and Egan when I was 10, then on to Galt and Bannantyne when I was about 16 or 17.
Kitsch
Kitsch, I lived at 857 Galt in front of the Bannantyne school from about 1936 to 1952.Where did you live and when. Guy
Ralph.
Hi Guy,
I lived on Galt much later, in the mid 70's to '79. I made a mistake in my earlier posting. It was 6th Avenue and Bannantyne, not Galt.
I didn't really know anyone on Galt while I was there.
Kitsch
