I was a member of the Kinsmen's Club under Maurice Marasine. (His son, Doug volunteered there too!) I formed and played on the 1951 Midget Basketball team, (ages 12-16)to represent Verdun Kinsmen Club in the Montreal Boy's Club League. Players were from VHS, most of them were 16 years of age. We won the Montreal Boy's Club Midget Championship! Roughest games were in the Point at the 79th Battery Club! Pat Geary refereed there and kept things under control. The Club was located on Verdun Avenue, near Hickson. Sez Victah1
Hi Victah1, I played a little basketball around that time as well. Played against 79th Battery (tough stuff!), East End Boys' Club, and we even went to Ottawa one time. Some of the players I "remember" were Tom Galley, Alex Baxter, Bruce Meikle (the old memory is struggling here), Richard Crooke, and yes I can remember Doug Mariasine, but I don't think he was involved with our team at the time. Got some pics somewhere. Will try to locate them. Played the first table-top hockey game that was out at the time at the club. Also played against some real good ping-pong players. Great Place!!!!
great memories of the kinsmen club. i joined as a member in 1949, even had my picture with mr. Marasine in the Verdun Guardian. i dont think i missed a movie on a Friday night. 10 cents. i lived on the next block on Joseph st. near Hickson. great times as a kid.

Re Boxing - I knew an Alex Baxter who fought under Harry Hurst in the Golden Gloves, probably 1949-50. P.S. The building had been a church for awhile
Whoops! That should have been BILLY Hurst!
Thank you God Bless
