Hey everyone, does anyone remember the Radio Show "Call Me Uncle" with Hal
Stubbs, on Verdun Radio, C.K.V.L., in the 50'S, & was anyone on this show
for kids, as I was several times. I think that Bill O'Connor was the
greatest piano player, that I ever heard. He would pick up a tune from you
if you just hummed it, he was phenominal...I never realized that you had to
bring a gang with you to win. I of course never won, as I came from LaSalle
& hadn't many kids with me.....lol....lol...lol...

Norman, The piano player was Bill Monroe as mentioned in my October 22nd message and you are right, he was a terrific piano player as I still remember him. Attached to my Oct. 22nd message is an add in the June 1929 Verdun Guardian advertising Bill Monroe's band playing at the pavillion. Check a member's interesting comments. Guy
Hi Norman, Are you sure about Hal's last name? Reggie Paine
You know you are probably correct. I thought his name was Billy O'Connor, but it just might have been, this same Bill Monroe, that you refer to. Perhaps Hal Stubbs was not Hal's last name. But the programme was called, "Call me Uncle" I do believe. Thanks for the "Heads Up".......
Yup, I played the accordion on this show with another guy and we each won a goldfish in a glass bowl. We didn't live in Verdun. We lived in Ville Emard across the aqueduct from Verdun.
I remember the show. I was on it also. I lived in Montreal East. Never won either though it was lots of fun.
Stubbs is correct! I am his daughter. Turns out a boss I reported to during my career was one of his kids. Wierd and wonderful! Thanks to all for he memories :)
Hi Lyndsay thanks for your update on the last name info of your Uncle Hal...thanks for surfing by. Cheers ! Les
Ooops ! Sorry Lyndsay I meant to say your Dad, not Uncle. However in my defense the show someone said was "call me Uncle"........lol Cheers ! Les
The show was "Call me Uncle", hosted by my father, Hal Wardell.
Sorry to say it’s actually Hal Wardell who hosted “Call me uncle” but I’m sure your dad was a wonderful guy and could also be a well known radio host.
I went to the radio station to sing on the show. My girlfriend and I traveled across the city to sing, "I dreamed that I was Queen of France". We didn't win!
I was on call me uncle as a kid.I dont remember who was the m.c. but on air he was so nice but off air what a jerk.
I was on that show twice - once when I was four, and then when I was 11. Sang "Rockabye your Baby with a Dixie Melody" and won. Prize was an aquarium with guppies who all ended up jumping out of the tank and dying on the floor. Down the toilet they all went and that was the end of it!!

I also was on the show when I was about 8. I sang White Christmas and was so stricken with nerves I forgot the words. I definitely did not win. I also lived in Ville Emard; the show was broadcast live from the local Boys Club. I think it was on Jolicoeur Street.
Hi, doing research, Hal was my Dad.....
We need to talk? Knew the name Wardell. Worked with a person who was there, I ended up working for him
, it was Stubbs
Let’s chat. I’m sure we will have a lot of history to go through. I have tapes, people.
Well he was there and confirmed it. Our family has tapes. Wardell is a name well respected and known to us. Uncle Hal had a special thing about him. Kids knew it. Do you know what it was?
