Did anyone read the gazette today. There is a interesting story about 5 brothers from Verdun that fought in the second world war one of them has passed on.They all came back safe from the war.Ther name is Hill. There was another Hill, Douglas Hill from Verdun he was not so lucky he didn't come home. Many Verdun families sent 3 or 4 boys off to War.Only 2 familys sent more the Hills and the the Tremblays they sent 5.They said they felt it was there duty and oblegation to their Country. They got paid seventy five cents a day they would send it home to their family. They are all in their eighties now..
We Will Remember Them.

DeeDee; A very interesting story..here is a link to the Canadian War Graves Commission, where you can search for info on servicemen or servicewomen who were killed in either WWI or WWII. http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx A very interesting site. I found info on my uncle that was killed and on Douglas Hill... a very interesting site........mpu
The Veterans poster on our home page is very nice. I saw it this evening in our local Legion when I went to vote in our municipal election. Thanks for the poster. mpu
Re:Hill Brothers. They were an amazing family. They
lived at 1090 Woodland. The house is still there. There were two other brothers
named Kenny and Norman. The Father was in radio communications and relayed
messages overseas from his powerful radio and antenna on Woodland
Avenue.
In memory of such people St.Athanasius Church on
Wellington will have a special Armistice memorial service on Sunday Nov.13th.
All are welcome.Come and honour the year of the Veteran. 3067 Wellington Street
facing Maxi. LaSalle Metro. 11am Sunday 13th. Refreshments afterward and war
songs sing along. Ed Brown 768 4198
Hi Ed,
The Hill's are my cousins. Their mother and my grandmother
were sisters. I haven't had contact for many years, in fact the last one I
was in contact with was Kenny. He had remarried and was living in London,
Ontario when he passed away about 15 years ago and the last time I saw Norman, I
was visiting Montreal and he delivered pizza's to where I was visiting.
That was probably 20 years ago. It is nice to see that the others are still
around and seem to be doing quite well. Next trip to Montreal, I'll try to catch
up to Harold or Jimmy. Probably close to 30 years since I have seen them! Where
does the time go???
Best Regards,
Alan
Hi Chris..I to remember in school having to stand for 2 minute silence.I remember when the buses in Montreal would stop on their route for 2 minutes now you are lucky if they stop to pick you up lol.The company I worked for rang a bell and we would stand for 2 minutes.I lived out west for a few years I lived in Alberta and B.C.In Alberta I was in retail and we closed till noon time.I know the feeling being from Quebec. My daughter and her husband moved out to B.C Late seventies. They drove out with Quuebec plates and they were told to go back to Quebec many times???
I saw a picture of the Hill Brothers in the Guardian published during WW2. I will try to find it on my next visit to the SHGV and post it.
Hi Guy,
If you are able to find that picture and post it, I would appreciate it. I
have learned a bit more about that side of my family as a result of the article
in last weeks paper. Just when I thought I knew everything!
Thanks Again,
Alan
