A cabbie picks up a Nun

A cabbie picks up a Nun. She gets into the cab, and the cab driver
won't stop staring at her.

She asks him why he is staring.

He replies: "I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend
you".

She answers, " My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I
am and have been a nun
as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about
everything. I'm sure that there's nothing
you could say or ask that I would find offensive."

"Well, I've always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me."

She responds, "Well, let's see what we can do about that: #1, you have
to be single and #2, you must
be Catholic."

The cab driver is very excited and says, "Yes, I'm single and
Catholic!"

"OK" the nun says. "Pull into the next alley."

The nun fulfills his fantasy with a kiss that would make a hooker
blush. But when they get back on the
road, the cab driver starts crying.

"My dear child," said the nun, why are you crying?"

"Forgive me but I've sinned. I lied. I must confess, I'm married and
I'm Jewish."

The nun says, "That's OK, my name is Kevin and I'm going to a
Halloween party."

Mashmakan

There's a band name I haven't seen for a while. Out here on the west coast nobody's ever heard of Mashmakan. As I remember they were originally called Trevor Payne and the Triangles, also a band nobody has ever heard of out here. They did lots of dances in Verdun in their days.

Interesting

Hi Jimmy,

I know this is a little after the fact, but I am a fan of George Carlin and
that message seemed to be out of character for him. The article regarding New
Orleans was NOT written by George Carlin. That same message has had several
names attached to it & Carlin vehemently denies writing it. In fact he was
recently on TV with Bill Mahr and expressed his sentiment for the people of NO
and his opinion was the complete opposite of that message. You can get the
particulars regarding it and a lot of others at:

Just though you might be interested!

Corona Bottling Works

Jean Marie,

Jean Marie was looking for the CORONA BOTTLING WORKS and I finally found it for him. They bottled the HIRES soft drinks and notice the ingredients.

Maynard Ferguson - Pavillion

I found the enclosed add in the Guardian in a  1945 edition, of Maynard Ferguson appearing at the Pavillion. Of course Maynard went on to become a famous jazz musician throughout Canada, the U.S. and worldwide. Does anybody remember him? He was born and  in Verdun. He would be in his late 70s today and wonder if he is still playing. He is/was known for playing very high notes on his trumpet. (SHGV Archives)

(Archives SHGV)

Boroughs

I found out that the City of Montreal (the island) is divided into 27 boroughs, as follows, and it seems like each has their own mayor, etc.  Seems like Verdun is also a borough of Montreal.

Montreal borough

The city of Montreal is divided into 27 boroughs (in French, arrondissements), each with a mayor and council.

Powers

The borough council is responsible for:

  • Fire prevention
  • Removal of household waste and residual materials
  • Funding of community
  • Social and local economic development agencies
  • Planning and management of parks and recreational
  • Cultural and sports facilities, organization of recreational sports and sociocultural activities
  • Maintaining local roads
  • Issuing permits
  • Public consultations for amendments to city planning bylaws
  • Public consultations and dissemination of information to the public
  • Land use planning and borough development.

List of Montreal boroughs

Boroughs or parts of boroughs listed in italics are former municipalities that have voted to return to being independent, effective in 2006. In cases where a borough contains parts that voted to stay and others that voted to go, it is unclear how the remaining areas will be reorganized.

Pte J.R. (Rolly) Costigan, Wounded, WW2

I found the enclosed notice from the Guardian dated Nov. 9, 1944 at the SHGV yesterday. He is no doubt related to Allan Costigan who died in a motorcycle accident in the late fifties. Can anyone enlighten us on this.?

Shamcats

What does Shamcats mean? I checked Google and nothing came up that
would match. Could it be 'Shamrock' and cool 'Cat'? just curious.

École St Willibrord School - Photo

Here is a picture of the St Willibrord School which was demolished and replaced by the E. Sauv챕 French Primary School at the corner of Willibrord and Verdun ave.
Translation:
In 1918, the school was built to accommodate both the boys and girls with double residence for the religious Brothers and Sisters. It was destined for the english speaking children of the new Saint Willibrord Parish founded in 1913.
