The Generation Gap 40th. Anniversary Reunion July 19th. 2008

Hi I have all the info and pictures for the different genesis of the Generation Gap starting off with the original band named the Gnomes featuring Danny Beck, Brent Meldrum, John Frainetti, Mike and Kevin Gauld and myself, Dave McAuliffe. The name was changed to the Kotics but that's a story that only Robin Williams could explain with some justice so we changed the name to The Generation Gap. The line-up changed with the addition of Charlie Clark, Kirby Edgel, Alex Bielajew, John and myself. Although we did have a sax and horn players in the band this did not last long. Played at various venues around Quebec, Ontario, new York and Vermont. Were the headliners at the 1968 Verdun Winter Carnival and played the Youth Pavillion at Man and His World. The Last time the band played togerher was in 1969 at Angrion Park with the line-up of John, Alex, Kevin, Mike and myself. Now for the good stuff. The band is planning a Verdun Reunion 40th. Anniversary get together in July of 2008. It will be a 60's theme reunion and to quote Mike G. it will be a "come as you were" party. Daylight Savings Time

Another disadvantage to not participating in Daylight Savings Time: for the next 3 weeks (until Christmas Holidays) the kids here in central/northern Saskatchewan arrive at school before sunrise!

Today is Merchant Navy Veterans Day, which pays homage to the "unsung heroes" of the Second World War whose losses, at one in eight, were the highest of any of the services. Professor Jack Granatstein stated that without them, the Allies could not have won the war.

The ceremony in Ottawa will also honour Hannah Baird, a Verdun, Quebec, native and merchant seawoman who was the first Canadian casualty of the Second World War. On September 3, 1939, her ship, SS Athenia, was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat, one week before Canada declared war and one week after the merchant service and military were placed on a war alert.

Hannah Baird is commemorated on the Women Mariners Memorial, which graces Veterans Park in Langford, BC.

(Montreal) Museums free on May 28

Museums, art galleries and other sites participating in the 20th annual edition of Montreal Museums Day will waive admission fees on May 28. Free buses will be available on that Sunday to carry visitors to 35 participating locations, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Chateau Ramezay and the McCord Museum. "Little Christmas". This term is unknown in the area I live in. "Ukranian Christmas Eve" is celebrated on January 6th. It's a big thing. Borsche, cabbage rolls, perogies, wheat soup and it seems an endless offering of foods and refreshments. Does anyone here celebrate "Ukranian" or "Little" Christmas?
