Boroughs or parts of boroughs listed in italics are former municipalities that have voted to return to being independent, effective in 2006. In cases where a borough contains parts that voted to stay and others that voted to go, it is unclear how the remaining areas will be reorganized.

Linda; It was not that long ago that these municipalities were forced to merge into "One Island, One City" , many against their will after many studies and $$$ wasted. Now there are a number of them that after many studies and $$$ want to de-merge. They are being threatened with tax increases as much as 25% if they do "separate". Last year in DM we were faced with a proposed merger with a neighbouring town, but at least we were given a referendum, which to my pleasure ended in a resounding NO. mpu
MPU, Egads, now I remember why I departed La Belle Province. Lordy, lordy how I hate politics. My little senior's brain has a hard time understanding .... is this a case of "do as I say, not as I do". Quebec wants to separate from Canada, but within Quebec, on the Island of Montreal, they want all cities to merge into one and not separate. Let's get this straight....are they separatists or not . Just joking. Have a happy thanksgiving holiday.
Linda; When I read earlier today about thousands of people being killed in a huge earthquake in Pakistan, hundreds being killed in a landslide in Guatemala, I think myself and a lot of other Canadians have a lot to be thankful about not only on Monday, but the other 364 days of the year also. I am very thankful for a very caring and special person in my life....my wife. Tomorrow is her birthday, and marks 30 years ago that we were engaged on her birthday, and then married on May 22, 1976 and still happy together..........................................................................Ralph.
Ralph and Linda, The City of Toronto did this a few years back and it has worked well. Mel Lastman was the first mayor and it eliminated 5 other mayors and many alderman. However, Montreal did the same but paid off the ex mayors and aldermen with handsome severance packages. Then the Premier Jean Charest gave them the option of getting their own city back and now a lot of cities want to be on their own. Example Westmount. And there are other cities also that voted to be back on their own. This is one reason why Quebecers are so heavily taxed. Ralph you must indeed have a beautiful wife if she celebrated her birthday on October 10. I celebrated my 23rd anniversary of my 39th birthday on that same day. Reggie Paine
Hi Reggie; This is a good way no ''count'' your birthdays, I might try this,,,,,,,in December I will celebrate the 12th anniversary of my 39th birthday.......that feels good, as I did not enjoy turning 40, even less turning 50....................................Ralph.

Sandy; At least your daughter had good intentions by buying the soup for you. It was also nice of her to test it for you to make sure it was good before she buys the trunkload full................mpu
RegtheRetiree1,....... Some messages do unfortunately seem to just disappear into cyber-space,..after yuo've taken the time to type them out,& hit the 'send message' button........very frustrating I agree,...it happens to everyone it seems,.....and for no apparent reason,......However ,you mention you 'click' on your name , and it shows your most recent posted messages,......if you look over at the left hand side of the opening page, under Message Boards,....click on this, and it will open a list of titles as follows General Messages Verdun Trivia MB Reunions Looking for Happy Birthday Music Matters Jokes or Truisms Spec Occasions ..........Now I'm sure you've seen these options,.. When we 'Reply' to any topic,..it goes to the top of the list ,when you log onto the site,.and you see the most recently posted messages .......the trouble with that is that once a few more replies are posted, and your reply gets moved down the list,.it stays under it's original topic,........Now the "Boroughs' topic was not under the 'General' heading,....and it's actually under the 'Verdun Trivia MB' heading ,.....if you Click on the 'Verdun Trivia' you Will see the 'Boroughs' topic,......and one of your most recent responses is Definetly There,.........you say you respoded twice to that 'Boroughs' topic.....I would suggest that one message was lost (for whatever reason) but your other one that you've searched for for an hour and couldn't find is under VerdunTrivia ,where the topic of Boroughs was started by Mom1945,......... I too have tried to find say one of my responses and looked at length under the 'General ' heading for messages ,..Only to find it later under one of the other choices,.......but it was in the spot where I initially put it ,I just assumed it was under the same category,...and hadn't noticed the change,......... for instance this msg. is a response under the Boroughs heading,....a couple of messages from now when someone else posts under say Verdun Yesteryears,or Remembering Verdun,.....the board will switch back to messages under the General Heading............................. So to make a Long story ,.longer.......hahahaha ,.just Open the MessageBoards,to the left of the opening page,.....then click on Verdun Trivia,.........and You will Find your posted messages......................Hope this Helps you Reg,..................... Have Fun & Remember Verdun,...............................

Here's a bit of Verdun trivia for those who care or those who don't or those who are just plain bored. The 'Welcome' page has a City of Verdun crest at the top, and I was wondering what the Latin saying was. This is what I found out:
Thanks Mom, Great information. It is also a really thought out coat of arms. I wonder what year they began to use it. Danny
Linda, this information is very interesting , and I believe still very true in the areas of being proud to be Canadian, friendly to visitors, English & French living comfortably side by side, .............well in all areas I guess........thanks, Ralph. Merry Christmas to all * Joyeux Noel a tous
