Nun's Island
Here are some pictures I took today on the "Boardwalk".
Hello Guy ,.Did you go for a bite to eat at Woodland Restaurant too,..on your outing,......judging by today's weather reports for Montreal,.....you had some Fantastic Weather,........temps were high ,.and it's early in the Spring,Such vast temperature swings back there,....from a few weeks back with wind & rain,.and prior to that a little snow,.....to going for a walk on the boardwalk, and maybe a refreshment on an outdoor Patio........................................................Have Fun & Remember Verdun....................................
Les Odly enough, I never ate at Woodlands Restaurant. I parked my car at Egan near Verdun, bought a Hot Dog, Fry and Pepsi at Bingo's to take out and walked to the Boardwalk to eat while admiring the river. I know how interested you are about the river bank, well actually there is a narrow dirt path near the river below the river bank, then there is the asphalt path (old Boardwalk), another asphalt trail in front of the building on my photo and I counted a 4th dirt path in the park between the building and Wellington at Woodland. See my rough sketch. Guy
Yes Thanks Guy,..it's funny you mention a dirt path along the river at the bottom below the path (boardwalk),...there always was when we were kides too,.I guess enough people make their way to the actual river bank,...and eventually wear a trail along the edge,..........I Remember alot of the dirt trails from when I was a kid,...used by fisherman to stan along the banks too,...but I'll bet it's part of today's kids adventure path (where they are not supposed to go,.as per Mom's orders).....................hahahahahahI like your idea todays to enjoy being outside with a Hotdog,.fries & a softdrink,....................way better idea than sitting in a Restaurant,.......I wasn't thinking,........................hahahahah Thanks for taking the time to take & post the photos,...............................now I'm really missing the place................ HF&RV
Les, I forgot to include the photo taken from the boardwalk of the building at the foot of Woodland so here it is. This area wich included the exterior Half shell stage, the yacht club. the Pavillion and further on the Natatorium was a center of attraction in Verdun in the forties and the fifties. Although w lived at Galt and Bannantyne, we thought nothing of walking all the way there. Guy
......also Guy ,you mention the Natatorium further out,....well it seems this year has passed by quite quickly,.because I beleive theNatatorium Opens for another summer full of kids ,.in only anoyther month...........Wow ,did this year ever go by quick,....................Seems We just got passed Christmas,................YIKES Thanks for the other picture................ HF&RV
Guy,.......I'm sure you have many of these old maps of Verdun,.......but while searching fro Verdun Stuff,....on the Bilan de Siecle ,Sherbrooke site,.I found this 1913 Map of Verdun,................................it's quite basic & you may have even seen it before ,However there you go: .have fun & Remember Verdun
Hi Guy ,.I'm not sure ,without trying it first,.However ,Here's what I would do to start with ,....... .................Guy ...right click on the map, now depending on your programs ,.I would probably click on 'Save As' first ,.this assures you have acopy of coursethen: you can either right click again,.and select a 'Send To' a program on your desktop,.like photoshop,.or whatever picture program you have and play around from there, with magnification,....there should be a (+ or -) sign for you to Magnify it's size to what you want,.and then printing it or 'saving to your pictures again'..................Hope this makes a little bit of sense,.as I'm typing this I'm wondering if I'm making it sound complicaated?? Short synopsis,.......... Save the Map,to your PC,then access it through a program like Photoshop or something similar,.and you should be able to play with it from there.......... Try that ,.and let me know ,how you made out,....... Good Luch Guy.............................................. HF&RV
Also Guy here is the direct link to the page where I found it on the Bilan de Siecle site,.....you will see the Map & then you will also see the 'utilisez le loupe' tool....
