Group wants another Expo in Montreal
The Gazette
Published: Tuesday, May 15, 2007An independent group thinks Montreal can pull off the huge success of Expo 67 again for the occasion of Canada's 150th anniversary.
The group has submitted a proposal to the city of Montreal for it to hold another world's fair in 2017, to be called Expo 17.
Their plan involves using existing Expo grounds at Jean Drapeau Park, the harbourfront at Cite du Havre, as well as parts of the southwest shore of Montreal. It would involve a large-scale cleanup of the St. Lawrence River.
Drawing on surveys conducted among Expo 67 visitors, the group wants to make architecture a big part of Expo 17. Unlike Expo 67, their plan calls for pavilions that are constructed to outlast the exhibition
