It would be great if there was a directory which had the names first
and the street after. My great grandparents Patrick and Mary Foy,
arrived in Canada from Ireland with my grandmother Annie (10 years old)
in the mid or late 1800s. They probably lived in Griffin Town or Goose
Village, but have no clue.
Second Avenue.

Hey Secondave, I found some Foys as well in 1862, 1856 and one on Grand Trunk in 1875. The links are below. Hi Maggy,
I has searched Lovels Directory but cannot find St. Henry listed. My
Grandparents had Armstrong's Fish and Chip Store and we believe it to have
been located there in the late 20's and early 30's. My dad graduated from a
high school that was governed by the ProtestanTBoardof Commissioners for the
city of Montreal but we do not know specifically what school, but his
proficiency Medal say June 1931. We have pictures of the store, with my Dad
out front with his delivery bicycle, but cannot make out an address. My
Brothers and I are trying to create a family history for our kids and their
kids who never knew their grandparents or great grand parents. Has St. Henry
merged with another area that I should search. I would appreciate any info
that any of the VC people could supply.
Thanks
Ruth
First names of your father and grandfather would be helpful. I think St. Henry would be included in the Montreal section. In 1922 I see a W.S. Armstrong storeman at 76b Aird av.
Bill, St.Henry was always part of Montreal. Ed
I just googled that address and it is in St. Henry even!
Maggie, My Greand fathers name was Robert Armstrong and his wife was Margaret. We think the store was origialloy owned by his father Jame s Armstrong. My Dad was James William Armstrong, Ruth
Maggie, This is a perfect example wy this site is si great. A REPONSE IN MINUTES Ruth
Ruth, Lovell's, 1933-34, Alphabetical Directory, Page 706: Armstrong Robert restaurant 2360 DeVilliers h 5010 Notre Dame W Does any of this information should familiar? The first time this information shows up is for the years 1932-33. Cheers.
Hi, Maggie: Concerning Lovell's Directory, is there another virtual site that I can go to arrive at the same sites that you've mentioned on Aug.28. The only on-line site I've found is through the "Westmount Library > Virtual Reference Desk > Montreal" : http://www.westlib.org/reference/montreal.htm which brings me to: http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/index.html I can't seem to locate the English site. Thanks for you help, Jack
