Hi Kelly66 ! You’re right ! The motorcycle is on the west side of Woodland Ave, slightly south of Verdun Ave I’m sure somebody will identify the bus ! JM

I can identify the bus. It's a 107. HaHa Seriously does anyone remember the beaver houses? Beaver construction built about a fifth of the houses in Verdun and always left the cement image of a beaver set into the bricks just below the roof.        Ed                              ?

Hi edbro68 ! Route 107-Verdun exists since 1967 You will remember that before 1967, it was: Route 8-Verdun (1926-66) (also known as 8-Verdun-Atwater, 8-Verdun Avenue) As to the description of the bus in the old photo, I would suggest a CC&F-Brill, model C-36. Montreal Tramways Company bought 225 of these (991-1215) between 1945 and 1947. Do you agree for the C-36 ? P.S. Concerning Beaver Construction, would you have a photo of a house built by them with the image of the beaver set into the bricks just below the roof. I would appreciate if you could post it. Thanking you in advance ! Have a nice weekend ! JM

Hi Jean-Marie, What year did the small General Motors busses stop running on the Verdun 8 line? Were those busses scrapped? I never saw them used on any other lines. Laval Transit also had those small GM busses. You would see them in Cartierville at the Cartierville 17 streetcar terminal. I remember the larger General Motors and The Mack busses that replaced streetcars on St Denis and St Lawrence Boulevard eventually went to other lines. I recall that around 1963 many of the large General Motors busses ended up on the Cote Des Neighes 65 line plus the Outremont #129 line and the Mack Busses were doing service on the Ste Catherine #15 line. My favorite busses were those General Motors and Mach busses. I also liked The Fagoel busses. I did like the CC&F busses, especially the CC&F trolley busses. Nothing beat the streetcars though. Hope all's well in Chicoutimi. Did any of the recent heat wave reach that far north? Take care, Walter

Walter, I had a preferance for the GM buses as they rode like an oversied car, good suspension and comfortable. The CC&F buses where made in Canada by Canadian Car & Foundry Company and where made in Ontario I believe, Fort Williams perhaps? (Jean Marie, peux tu confirmer ces d챕tails). Guy

Hello JMH,..I worked in some of the old Canadian Car 's building,.the actual yards, that ran along parallel with NotreDame,.but were actually accessed through a guarded gate,.that let you into the peoperty, which was at least a mile long,...it ran between the Canal & NotreDame,.....the name of the road was called Canal Bank Road,..I believe the address was 300 Canal Bank,....I had many a 'grilled cheese' & a beer at the 'Transfer Restaurant' on the corner of NotreDame and Lafleur (it was immediaetly on the other side of the Lafleur/VilleStPierre bridge,.....Some company's in the same yards were Candiv Steel ,.Airpak (then Corpac,...they built the old tent trailers for Lionel ,(I painted many of them),...as well as those moving containers that you would see on large trucks etc etc ,....My old man had his last shop in those yards as well,.......I got to drive the train (shuttle type)in those yards,....a friend of ours named Gaston Paquette,.used to run everything in that yard (early 70's)......there's many a tale could be told of happenning s in that area,........hahahahaha Unfrotunately I don't Recall them ........................hahahahaha       Thanks for prompting my old memory,........during the war years they pressed those yards into service for the war effort,.....the tracks were(probably still are) imbedded in those floors of that old plant,.........there were many other company's sharing those yards too,.......So the property has a long history,                                                                                                      HF&RV

Hi; The motorcycle was a 1942  ex. Military machine  45 Cu. In., They were the must popular bike back then. One could purchase them as War Surplus, and convert to civilian use. There were quite a few people into the conversion,  chrome plating  and removing military parts & replacing same.   The name of the restaurant,  Wakefield tea room.  and Massey &  Gautier were on the 2nd. floor, real esate people.  Wilson funeral parlour  accros the road on Verdun Ave. corner Egan, The other corner had a B/A gasoline service station,  25 cents a gallon.   Ron Larman

Ron: You wouldn't be related to Stan Larman by any chance? Stan worked with my dad for many years at Stelco on St Ambroise St, St. Henri. If Stan is still living today he'd be well over 80 years old. He lived in Ville Emard. Just wondering, that's all!   Dianne

Hi Linda: It certainly is a small world!!!   Stan would be your great uncle, he was a very nice man, my dad and he were friends. My parents and Stan and his wife went to the Stelco Christmas parties and I must look to see if I have a picture of them in a group taken at one of the dances. It's  just a long shot, though. Now that I think of it Stan was older than my dad who would be 89 if he was still living. I am trying to remember where Stan had a summer place, I went there once and I remember Stan taking me out on his boat...so many years ago!   Talk later......Dianne

My mom said she and my dad (Syd) were among a group of young people waiting for Marty to join up with them the night he died. This is why I asked. Dad lived in the Snowdon area.

touchy826 MSN said...

Hi;   Maggie the night that Marty died, he was with Sonny Stark, and they had been doing a lot of beer drinking. and about 11.30 P.M.  , they decided to leave the Plaza Hotel in Chateauguay.  they were headed for the 3 Blue.  He always drove fast,  and that night , when they came to what is now Laberge Park,  they could not take the sharp turns in the road , and went down.  Marty went into one of the large stones  that border the river, Sonny got banged up pretty bad.   I asked Bill Butler if he remembered Syd, and he could not.. Bill was at the Plaza Hotel, when Marty & Sonny left.   I vist Marty's grave, once a Year on the mountain, its located right by the enterance gate at the top of Remberance road
