Oh no! Second Avenue is on another diet! Got to do something, I'll
soon be as big as my lumbering SUV otherwise.
W.W. have two plans, Flex and Core. I've been on their 'Core Plan'
for a week and a half and lost 6 pounds. On this particular program
I'm given a list of 'Core' foods. I can eat as much of the core foods
as I wish to (eat until satisfied). If it's not on the list I cannot
eat them. Very simple -- no weighing and measuring. Similar to the
Atkins diet only in that regard.
Weigh-in is on Thursdays. Keep your fingers crossed for me if you will.

Not that anyone really gives a hoot about my personal health care,
but this thread may help someone get an idea how this program is
working for one 65 year old Verdunite.
Weigh-in yesterday results 262 lbs., down from 272 lbs. 10 lbs in two
weeks! Probably water loss for the most part but encouraging none he
less. The Atkins worked for me, but I always had a fear (which I
sugarcoated), it wasn't too healthy for one without a gallbladder.
This is the way I understand it: The liver produces 'bile' and stores
an ever ready supply in the gallbladder. When one eats fat the
gallbladder squirts the stored bile into the stomach to digest the
fat. With Atkins, animal fat was the main course. If I eat too much
fat now, the liver has to work it's ass off to produce enough bile
and move it into the stomach. Maybe there is a V.C. member in the
healthcare field who can correct me on my uneducated synopsis. The
W.W. food plan has little fat, and so far seems to be working.
There is a special going on here for pizza delivery. Buy one large 3
topping pizza and get the second one free. Pray for me.

Might work. Thanks Les. Who holds the key though? Maybe it's not such
a good idea. On the other hand maybe I can take a lesson from Captain
William Bligh.
To conserve water at sea this captain had the water ladle place at
the top of the main mast. If a seaman wished to drink out of the
water chest he'd have to first climb the rope ladders to the top to
retrieve the ladle, and then once used, he needed to climb back up to
replace it. Extreme circumstances require extreme measures. Hmmm, I
wonder where I could place the key? Never mind Les. Open for ideas
though.

Btw Bligh was an incredible navigator, and totally misunderstood for
200 years. I have a published copy of the HMS Bounty's captain's log
for that fateful voyage. And as a retired seaman myself, who has
spent his entire adulthood at sea, I can appreciate his abilities and
decisiveness.

I drive through McDonald's down the road for their large Kona coffee,
and I see the over weight tourist population waddling into the
restaurant for the 'Super- Size- Me' specials. Father, mother and
children all overweight -- family disease? I used to be one of those
unfortunate customers. Obesity is a major health problem in the US
and Canada. Most disease is diet related especially in my age group.
I think the food manufacturers put certain ingredients into the food
which creates a need to eat compulsively, but I do not know for sure
of course. All I know is when I choose heathy meals I lose the
cravings for a Mac attack after a while.
I weighed in yesterday at Weight Watchers and was given a star
representing a reward for 10 pounds lost. We in my group are shooting
to lose 10% of our original weight at sign up. I weighed 272 pounds
therefore my first goal is to lose 27 pounds. Very happy!

I haven't been entering my weight loss for a few weeks because I've
plateaued at 262 lbs, probably because I went out last week to dine
and see a show. I saw the dress rehearsal for 'Into the Woods'.
Fractured fairy tales. However the fine dinning morphed into a feed
bag, if you know what I mean?

They told me to watch my weight. So I keep it out front where I can see it. They said I'm out of shape. Not true! Round is a shape.
A word to those on meds. Check with your Doctor, it could be your medicine. I tried everything to rid myself of the abdominal extension. It turns out that my Prenisone (Used for my breathing) is causing it. Prednisone, which is basic Cortisone is a steroid and causes what they call mid body bulge. I have searched for a natural option to Prednisone with no luck.

Thanks for the list of core foods. It's acutally the healthy way to eat. Have you tried the Becel spray? I think it says on the bottle that using 5 sprays and under isn't really a fat content. I pop plain popcorn and spray becel two or three times. Not as yummy as the other popcorn we can buy, but it's not bad. I spray becel on salmon & cook it too, BBQ or bake. It's not oil like other cooking sprays. Claroleca
Lost another 1.4 pounds for a total of 11.6 pounds. It's coming off
about a pound per week now after the first 2 weeks.. 52 weeks is 52
pounds. There is a great W.W. cook book available at Costco which I
purchased. Can't go wrong.
