Frankyboy,
I sent the picture of the Boardwalk under construction ('30's) to my brother, who still lives in Cowansville, Quebec, but lived in Verdun and Lasalle until about 6 years ago. He spent many years (30+) working for D.E.W. out near the Lake entrance to the Lachine Canal and many hours having lunch by the entrance, especially in summer. He says that if you look closely to the waterway, the larger ship is entering the canal from Lake St.Louis, the railroad bridge way in the background is the old railroad bridge over to Cauganawaga Reservation.(Kanawake?) I tend to agree with him, no ship that size took a chance coming up the St. Lawrence past Victoria Pier. (too shallow) Especially not by Lasalle Blvd..in Verdun. They did have a boardwalk out there in Lachine too.
