Phishing scam

I do not have an account with the Royal banmk of canada.                  S.A.

.........

Dear valued RBC member:

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures,
we were unable to verify your account information.

This might be due to either one of the following reasons: 1. A recent change
in your personal information (i.e. change of address). 2. Submitting
invalid information during the initial enrolment process.
3. An inability to accurately verify your account information due to
an internal error within our processors.

We demand that you take 5 minutes out of your online experience and
renew your records to avoid running into any future problems with the online
service. However, failure to update your records will result in your account
suspension. Once you have updated your account records your internet banking
service will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.

Please follow the link below and renew your account information:

I have received on of those in the past....purporting to be Royal Bank....and I do have an RB account. I didn't bite but some would I guess.

I have also received similar emails from e Bay re my "account". In that case I do not have an eBay account.

And these emails look legit! A lot of effort on someone's part.

These scams should be reported to the RCMP or the local fraud section of your local police force......Dianne

These scams happen all the time. Especially the "Nigerian letter". They send out millions of these every day. And would you believe that people still fall for them. The people that do fall for it, spend their life savings, and end up with nothing. I get at least one every other day. I called the FBI one time just to see if there was something I could do to stop them. They told me yes, just delete them. Also if any organization like RBC, or any other official business has that much of a problem with your account, they will send you a letter. We had our community mail boxes broken into a few months ago. As far as we know they didn't get anything, but we are still experiencing some problems with some accounts we closed. Winston Allison

The more we discuss these scams with family, friends, on message boards such as this we get the word out there and hopefully fewer people will be taken in by these con artists. This morning when I opened VC there was a message for people to join some sort of group...can only imagine what it is..lol....anyhow we are being invaded by spam, scams everyday. There doesn't seem to be any recourse other than being very diligent. It is annoying.... I participate in the Wartime Memories Project and spammers have ruined an excellent guest book, very unfortunate, there doesn't seem to be anything anyone can do....Dianne

Banks do not do "business" on the internet! Always be suspicious when any business "demands" your response online and always use your telephone and "demand" to speak to a real live person to verify anything you might think is legitimate.

Besides reporting these scams to various police agencies, you should also report them to the banks in question, they would like to know that there is a scam using their copyrighted name and also their trademarked logo, they are very interested in knowing this and relie on the people who get the scam letters
