Here in Middle Sackville Nova Scotia a beautiful sunny day. Snow almost all gone. 8 degrees. Patsy
Melfort, Sask. Woke up this morning to a sunny -18C. Warmed up all day to -7 but the wind picked up to keep the "feels like" steady at -18. Looking for some light snow tomorrow, warming to -6. Looks good for the ski hill this week!
Well, Jim since you want to know what the weather is where we Verduners are
here goes. Daytona Beach Florida. By the native standards cold . Ha...... If
theyonly knew what cold is. 50 degrees at night and low 70's during the day.
For me this is the best season. I actually saw several women in Walmart on
Fri afternoon with parkas and winter insulated coats. After 9 years, I'm
still in shirt sleeves this time of year.
Morning friends, well today in Montreal its 4c or 40ish old style , and same forcast for rest of the week , the snow will melt and spring is on its way , I saw some buds on the lilac's yesterday, maple syrup , beautiful day , hang tough Jimmy
West Palm Beach, Florida is 74F, going to a high of 80F today.

yesterday. Should be sunny soon and sunny again tomorrow.

Today, we are in the upper 40's with lots of sunshine. Wednesday, we are
heading for more snow! We are on target to have the 2nd or 3rd snowiest winter
on record here in Boston!
hi Alan, Afew weeks ago I asked if your brother Bill worked for Bell Canada,,,,I didn't hear back. Must have slipped through! By the way,,,,nice kilt! Mike
Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine, cant stand it , going up to 6 or around 44 , what's a guy supposed to do, all this melting, hardly any snow left , have a great day Jimmy

Hi Mike,
Sorry I didn't see that message, but yes my brother Bill did work for Bell.
Originally in Montreal and then he relocated to London, Ont in '78. Sadly, he
passed away rather suddenly in June 2000. Did you know him?
Regards,
Alan
Hi Alan, I worked with him in the late 60's. He was on the line crew out in Pointe Claire. I think that big Al Webster was our foreman at the time,,,,Al always had a big stogie(sp) in his mouth. Bill always had a smile on his face and was a bit of a practical joker! I was the youngest so I would end up on the short end most of the time. lol,,,There was another fellow from Crawford Park that worked with us, he was from Newfoundland,,,,we called him Newfie (pretty original huh??). I am sorry to hear that he has passed. May I ask how he died? Take care, Mike
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the quick response! Bill had a massive heart attack not too long
after retiring from Bell. He hung in there just long enough for my brother Bob
(also in Boston) and me to get to London. The "Newfie" must have been Art
Collette. He & his family moved to London the year before Bill & his
family. After moving Bill to London, my wife & I fell in love with the city
and we moved there in '79. We moved to Boston about 10 years later. I saw Art at
my brothers wake and I can tell you, aside from some grey hair, he hadn't
changed a bit! One of the other guys that hung around with Bill and Art was Al
Gladden... did you know him too? I think he lived in Pierrefonds. Are you still
with Bell?
Alan
Hi Alan , did you get the snow, another beautiful day here in Montreal, going up to 6 or about 40ish , melting, and beautiful week end forecast , hang tough Jimmy
Hi Jimmy,
Yes we got the snow! About 5 inches last night and now it has turned to
rain. What a mess! The forecast for today is low 40's, upper 40's through the
weekend and upper 50's early next week. Then we'll probably get a 30 inch snow
storm!
Like the say.. If you don't like the weather in New England, just wait a
minute!
Alan
rain for today and tomorrow , 50 cms about 2 inches , should clean the rest of the snow , around 5 or 42 , kinda cool , but seems like T O has snow , I'll stay here in Montreal, whats it like your way folks Jimmy
Out here on Vanc. Island it rains all the time. Yup, just like Les said, and its cold and snowy and windy and it rains all the time. Nobody would like it out here. As a matter of fact, its rainin right now, all over my spring flowers . Take care.
Linda, I asked Les to share some of your warm weather with the east coast and all he sent us is rain. 4 more days comming up but the snow is melting and my spring flowers are popping through. Spring flowers for May 1st. Patsy
Rain has stopped, sun trying to peek through, going to blue bonnets this afternoon , come on Number 5 , hahahahaha , have a great day Jimmy

Hi Kungfu, What's better than a day at Blue Bonnets? Is Richelieu Race Track still in business? I don't know where Richelieu was, can't even remember seeing it but I do remember a ton of commercials for Richelieu Race Track.
Hi Fresco, Richelieu Raceway was in Montreal East (Pointe aux Trembles).I don't think it exists today. Really horseracing is dead in Quebec and when you refer to Blue Bonnets it is now called Hippodrome de Montreal like all other tracks in Quebec Hippodrome Alymer,Hippodrome Trois Rivieres etc. The Quebec Government wants all these locations to become mini casinos. This is why most of the Quebec horsemen are coming to Ontario. Reggie Paine
Hi Reggie, Thanks for the answer on Blue Bonnets. I'm six months into retirement. So far so good although I have days when I miss work & my friends there. It's like I did 40 years ago leaving Montreal, friends & Blue Bonnets behind. Life presents different stages and you just have to move along, go with the flow. Happy retirement to you, Walter Ryan
Beautiful day here in Calgary, Alberta. Scheduled high is 11C! Spring has sprung, but I have vivid memories of one of our biggest snow storms in May! You just never know. Connie Coleman
Raining "cats and dogs" here in Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia. You know that old saying...April showers bring May flowers? Just about all the snow is gone....Dianne
We are doing okay. Finally getting some desperately need rain. Our temps have been in the 50's and 60's. Our rainfall this year is less than 1/2 of what we usually get, and this will cause many problems as far as the fire season goes. We are in 1 of the 12 fire danger areas in the state, and are surrounded by fir trees up the gazzo. Anyways the rain will help. Tatetum, Deaker's love interest is due in May, but the may induce her because of blood pressure problems. They are talking about a 2 week period????? What do I know???? Hope all is going well up there. Love Winston
Tomorrow 12 and sunshine, here in good ole Montreal , whoopeeeee, and Frisco , I tried retirement and nearly went nuts, I now help a guy with horses that race at Blue Bonnets, and I refuse to call it Hippodrome anything, which is great , each morning when I can I go over and help out, its hard work and good exercise, dont hang around home, get out and go for it , thats advice to all of you contemplating retirement, make sure you have a hobby that gets you out of the house , hang tough Jimmy

Monday it was about 19 degrees and very sunny - both the dog and I got sunburned while I was drying him and grooming him on the deck - last night we had a bit of snow and it was -7.
DID it ever rain yesterday , My grandson was playing hockey over in St Hubert , left Ile Perrot , western tip off of Montreal , at 4 pm , went along 20 to Dorval, then went down to Lakeshore Road , nice drive through Lachine , Ville Lasalle then over the Mercier Bridge, took 1/2 hour to get over bridge, but remembered old days driving bike across to see the Indians at Caugnawaga as we called it old days, then through St Constant and Candiac, missed the turn and got into some heavy traffic on south shore, sure glad I do not live there, anyhow after 2 hours finally got to Arena Gaetan Boucher, the speed skater, then headed home, found my way over the Victoria bridge, and imagine we crossed this bridge when young on our Bikes, Yikes , unbelieveable, then through the p;oint to old Northern Electric turned left , past Capri , Magnan's and then onto highway , up Decarie and on to the 40 out to Home , al in all about 4 1/2 hours driving in the rain, but beautiful memories , still dark outside and more rain coming , have a wonderful day and drive with me , and yes I did walk Ste Catherine Street , will fill you in on my walk later , hang tough Jimmy
Thanks for the trip. I remember getting up at all sorts of ungodly hours to drive to some cold, damp arena with only a cup of coffee for my breakfast. I think I knew just about every arena on the island of Montreal and surrounding areas. Only difference is that this was 35 years ago, guess some things never change! Cheers.
Mom1945-Linda, Please don't complain about cold damp arenas, when I started out with my sons in hockey in Plattsburgh, there was no such thing as an arena and very few teams, all coached by First generation Canadian transplants. This was 1965 and I had to do a lot of searching to find them. I felt that my sons would have a deprived childhood if they did not play hockey.I particularly remenmber one Dad, obviously a French Canadian, standing on the snow bank ( typically there was also a shack to go in and warm up by a wood stove) and saying to his son, "My God There me, pick up your skirt and skate". God Bless Yvonne! I can hear it like it was yesterday. That's what this Verdun Connections does to us!!!! In the early 70"s the college built an Arena and we then moved indoors and as you said ungodly hours. I can remember having to be there sometimes at 5AM on a Sunday morning We had 2 sons a year apart and they played for 2 different areas because our oldest son wanted to stay with the team he started with and the younger son wanted to play with the new team that had been formed in our local neighbourhood. We used to say hockey didn't keep the kids at home it kept the parents of the streets on Sat night. We didn't have hockey night in Canada. I was always involved in stats and my husband usually manned the time clock or penalty box.. Thanks for the old memories. Verdun Connections has a way of tickling the brain with good old experiences
Hi Ruth, I also had 2 kids in hockey - a son and a daughter, 16 months apart. Fortunately my daughter played on the boys competitive league (meaning we got to play inside for some of the tournaments - sounds prejudiced but dear son wasn't as good as her). I remember having to help clear the ice of snow before a game if we were the first team to play. She is now 35 and still plays only now its on a recreation league (and only when work schedule permits). As a matter of fact this weekend she's going up to Whistler to play in a tournament! Cheers, Linda
It's 82 degrees with a clear sky in West Palm Beach, Florida. Pepsi with Lime has arrived in town. I tried some, it's not too bad. I wonder how Kik-Cola with lime would taste?
I see that Coke now has Coke with lime - didnt want to buy a case of 12 since I am the only one who drinks coca cola - might try one can.
Hi everyboday: The weather here is very wet today and windy. The temp. is + 10. A good day for staying in side and enjoy a hot cup of tea or maybe a glass of wine or whatever the preference is...pepsi with lime or Canada dry....depends what one mixes it with...lol...oh, by the way...I am here in Nova Scotia...Dianne

Hi Dave,
I believe that Johnny Cash served time in Brandon Manitoba after he
was busted on a drug offence. He was also arrested in Starkville Mississippi for
a midnight curfew violation! His manger and booking agent was Sol Hoff from King
Street, London Ontario. Just thought you'd like to know!
Regards,
Alan
Hi Patsy and Linda....Here in Beaver Bank we had a beautiful day, 12c and sunny. Spent the afternoon raking leaves from my flower beds. However, rain is expected for the rest of the week. Spoke to my sister-in-law in Mississauga and they had snow today...so it could be worse...Dianne
