Christmas reunion 2004 Toronto

I've just found this site - can anyone tell me about the Strathcona Christmas reunion. Is it well attended - I'm a class of '68 graduate - what are the chances of meeting my peers at this event?

Hey Grain...whatever...   The annual Verdun Xmas reunion held at the Strathcona is an annul event and typically has 125 or so "ex-Verduners/VHS'ers" show up. It is always a fun night, and you would cerrtainly know a number of those who come out (if you're a '68 grad). The reunion will be held this year on Dec. 3 (always the first Friday night in December), and is in the downstairs bar in the Strathcona Hotel, on York St., across from the Royal York. Typically, most guys show up between 6:30 and 7:00. I am sure that if you are a VHS grad of '68 that you would know a good number of the guys who show up. There are always a few "phantoms" who come out, so there are always surprises. But, it is always a great evening to see old friends who you might not have otherwise seen in a number of years.   By the way.....if this will be your first time attending......the first round is on you.

Hello Grain of Sand,   Your post brings to mind on how we had a mind set in those 50's and 60's. I sort of laughed out loud to myself when I read your post.   Welcome to a very active group.   Hopefully you will run into old friends that you never imagined you would see or hear from again.   Best, Bob G

I wouldn't want to show up at an 'all boys' - none of whom I know - get
together that there is far more drinking than I can handle....actually I
barely drink...
What year did you graduate in?

Hi again, I went to St Willibroads from 1946 to 1955, went to Aviron tech and graduated from their electricial course, went to work at the CNR as an apprentice in the Point at the Back Shop. In 1960 I left the CNR, crossed the border and did a 20 year hitch in the US Navy. Living in California now and I used to say that it was summer all year long, but we have a foot and a half of snow on the slopes in the San Gabriel Mt. Range, about an hour and a half from home.  They started skiing and snow boarding today. All that before Halloween.   C U Later Bob G

Hey Joanne, Don't let Glen scare you, it was originally an all guy even but there are more and more females infiltrating in recent years. If you really don't feel comfortable at a bar, you might try setting a time and place for an unorganized meeting of Verdunites (on this site) and see what happens. Good luck and welcome to Verdun Connections
