Where is everyone from the 60's?

Hi out there,
Anyone out there from the mid to late 60's? I've been looking but haven't seen anyone we know so I'm dropping a few names. Where is Ronney Sweeney, R oss Sullivan, Sue Walker, Angie B.(don't know how to spell her last name) Wendy Fields, Andy Mc Neil ?
Anyone remember how good George Howard played snooker at the pool hall above maws and was it Phil or Paul Dussault that had the nice cue stroke? Where are all these people? Where's the gang from Maws?

Hope to hear back from someone,
             Have a Great Thanksgiving,
                      Wendy

Hi Wendy,     Good to hear from you, do you still live in Verdun?  nice to know whose two guys are still alive , I just wonder what everyone did with their lives and if they were still around the area. Your name doesn't ring a bell, the only friend I had from Crawford Park was Jackie Manley, do you know her? My name is Wendy Westover, born in '51, lived on Godin and went to VHS., I now live on Vancouver Island, but still get homesick at times especially when I see pictures. The old brownstones and boardwalk look pretty cool. I'll have to try and make it back in the near future. It is really good to hear from you ,write again,             Bye for now,            Wendy

Happy Thanksgiving Wendy, I'm a year ahead of you and attended VHS - lived most of my time in Crawford Park.  I'm now in NB but was in Montreal/Verdun a couple weeks ago for a little visit which I don't do often. Vancouver Island is a beautiful spot - I was there once and was supposed to go again this year but didn't get around to it - maybe next year.   Best wishes, Jim

Hi Wendy, how's it going. I was born in 55 and lived on Melrose, also went toVHS,but as I was going in you were graduating.I spent grade 8 at the Woodland Annex. Jackie Manley's name sounds familiar. You are around the same age as my brother Pete.I now live in south florida. I have a friend from Lasalle who lives on Vancouver Is. also, in Nanoose Bay. Nina Marcotte.I'm hoping to visit  Mtl.sometime before the new yr. I really miss the seasons. Not winter that much.I was up in Vt. last March and had forgotten how cold it can get.Yikes.Take care. Hi Carolyn,   Yes my sister is Lynda I remember when she worked at northern electric, she didn't like it nuch. She now lives in Toronto and is head of the womens services for Canada in the salvation army. Her huband is Neil Watt  he went to VHS and was from Verdun or Lasalle. They both started out as Ministers in The Salvation Army. They have two sons. What's really wierd is that my partners' sister married this guy and the first time I met him he asked me what my last name was and when I told him he asked if I was related to Lynda Westover. When I said she was my sister he was really floored and told me that he was her boss at Northern Electric so you probably know him too. His name is Ray Hounsel, it's a small world!!!   I spent last thanksgiving with Lynda , I wish I  could have done the same this year but I'll be phoning her tomorrow and I'll see if she recalls working with you.            Bye for now,          Wendy

H Wendy, I went to woodland annex as well . I wonder if I know your brother, what's his last name? I know what you mean about the cold ,we had a terrible year weather wise. Last winter we had record winds on the island,a cold spring, very little sun and below average temps. this summer and now it's fall but it already feels like winter. You're lucky you live in a warm climate,it's a long way from Melrose st. I'm thinking I might move to Mexico!!!! If I do I'll probably met someone from Verdun, they're everywhere!!!        Bye for now,       Wendy

hi wendy. i remember that patty came over to our house a few times with his brother timmy(capper) as his friends used to call him. and no i don't have a sister named cindy. i'm actually only 37 years old. i grew up real fast when i was just a kid. these were all the people(adults) who used to hang out at our house when we were kids.  there was  drinking, drugs, fights and stuff going on around us, but beleive it or not, we had some good memories as well. and most of the people who came over, would have beat anyone who misstreated us kids or our mom. and yes they would drink and stuff, but they were just good people with bad problems.  i actually had some of these adults(at different times) appologize to me about the way we grew up and the stuff we saw or the things we went through. that really ment alot to me. i became friends with some of them myself as i got older and my mom passed away. we laugh at some of the memories we have about how stubit they were as young adults. and even though it isn't the ideal way to learn, i learned alot of how i didn't want my life to become, and we still learned respect, compassion, tolerience, ect...  thanks to my mom and some of the people who were around as we grew up.    anyways thats i for now. take care love bonnie

That would be me. Still living in Verdun. I was in BC  from the mid to  late 70's came back here and been pretty much in Montreal since. Moved back into Verdun about 3.5 years ago. The more it changes the more it stays the same. Of course I hardly see anyone around from those days. Jimmy Wattie, Bob Morrison, Maurice Brosseau,  are about the only people that I know from those days I ever see pretty much. There are a couple others I run into once in a while but I either don't know their names or even if you would remember them. Blogging is pretty easy. Just register and you are ready to go. I highly recommend it. You can choose from Wordpress.com , LiveJournal, and Blogger for free services. I prefer Wordpress. One of the best things about blogs is that they do not have to be public, in fact they grew out of the idea of on line journaling, dear diary type stuff. (remember that Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org are different things, though related. You want wordpress.com).

The Wordpress blogs are all templated though there is usually a variety of choices such as the look of the blog. You can have a lot of fun just getting to know all the tools, some frustration too probably. And if you know what CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) means you will really like it. In any case anyone that can post here can easily run a blog.

Good luck!

kencm3 MSN said...

I was probably one of the last to hit the road heading for BC in '74. I first went out by car with Sterling, Kevin Murray, and Kenny Snowdon. We ended up working in a sawmill in MacKenzie and said screw this, heh, not what we came out for and then scattered. I ended up spending the summer working at a youth hostel in Salmon Arm. Went back in September. Headed out to BC the following summer and went to California with a woman I knew from there. That was an interesting trip as her old man was a big shot in a bank in San Francisco. Was kind of strange to be a typical kid from Verdun staying in this well to do suburb. Went back and forth to Montreal a few more times then just ended up living in BC. I worked on the railroad for a year and a half east of Revelstoke in a place called Albert Canyon. I loved it in some ways, hated the isolation and small town stuff in others.
So I picked fruit, planted trees, and did all the migratory jobs usually ending up going to Vancouver or hitchhiking down the coast to party my savings away. In 1980 I went back to Montreal and just fell in love with it all over gain. So that's about it for my "on the road" life.

I had heard Dave Gallagher died from cancer about a year after Roger Sabourin which was strange because they were pretty much life long buddies.   Bill Lee sounds right to me. Does anyone remember the night of the war between Ville Emard and Verdun? Bill Lee was quite  involved in that for a social worker.   Ken

Hi Wendy & Greg,

I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the pictures. They bring back so many memories.

The arms sticking out from Greg's sides are mine, but the name Spyder sounds very familiar. I have a hard time putting some names and faces together.

Dave Gallagher, of course. It's amazing what you can remember when you're given the smallest nudge.

I live in Vancouver. I was just on the Island last month. I will probably make another trip there after the Christmas holidays and would love to get together.

This post has been great. I wish it could go on and on. I do remember those times as good times.

Hi Wendy,

Ya, that's me, or should I say, was. Strangely enough, when I don't look in a mirror I still am that girl.

Some of the girls I hung out with were Nancy Kettles, Kathy Mailly, Susan McBrine, Eleanor White, and Nancy Bradley.

How do you like living in Florida? That sure is a long way from Verdun.

Hi TheLad,

The person looking towards the camera next to Mickey is either the reporter from the Messenger, or another social worker. The picture was taken for the Messenger to accompany a piece they wrote about it. I had to go down to their offices to get a copy of that picture.

Do you have a name other than TheLad, or is that a secret?

Hi ccccccccccccc7148,

You remember me, but I have no way of remembering you by your screen name. Could you tell me who you are?

I did live on Bannantyne at the corner of Egan above the grocery store.

Thanks, now I remember, that is Bill Lee. He was a really nice guy.

Hi Arlene. I know what you mean. I feel the same way until I look in a mirror or see a recent picture of myself. I hung around with Lynn Yetman, Debbie Elkin, Malone twins, Debbie Ireland and sometimes Nancy Kettles and Kim Cheponis. I spent 3months in N.Vancouver back in the early 80's. Stayed with Linda Bullard and Doug Gilmore. It rained just about everyday and I got homesick, so I headed back to Verdun. Florida is great except for the Hurricanes. Today is very stormy due to tropical storm Noel off the coast. Take care. Wendy

I noticed that a couple of the photos recently posted by kitchen_sink list Greg Edwards as one of the subjects...well. that doesn't look at alll like Greg to me; looks remarkably like Buddy Sweeney, Ronnie's bro...in fact, I remember that shirt - Grag would NEVER wear a shirt like that, trust me on this one. Nice to see shots of Sterling, he was a real nice guy, and died far too young.   Dean

Wayne's sister 's naem is Nancy - she lives in Ottawa, Wayne's in Vancouver...Wayne's doing fine - I would assume that Nancy is doing fine as well.   Dean

Hello, my name is Lyna and I was Ron Sweeney's next door neighbour on Lasalle St. in Verdun.
IF THIS IS THE SAME MAN YOU ARE REFERRING TO, I'm sad to tell you that Ron has passed away on January 17, 2021 at the age of 71. I do not have the details of his death, only that he spent the last 2 days in the hospital and everything happened very quickly. I saw him the evening of the 15th when I brought him soup and he seemed upset and agitated. But he reassured me he was okay and I wished him a good night.
The next morning the ambulance took him to the hospital where he died 2 days later.
I got to know Ron for the last year. He struggled with cancer and diabetes. He was grounchy but had a good heart. I will miss him. Sorry to be bearer of sad news but I thought you'd like to know.
Lyna
