At least one thing for sure ,.the View Couldn't be beat,.....and your Original Verdun Company ,.....must have been Worth every minute: Have fun & remember Verdun
.....................that of course should be "Was in order".........I can see it now , abunch of Verdun characters running down the Boardwalk ,and dispersing into groups some running towards Wellington St,.a few towards the Nat ,direction,.......some towards Desmarchais'..............and a few hiding by the river bank till the heat subsides.......hahahaha Sorry Guess that might have been the crew I knew!! HF&RV
Hi Everyone, I am happy to report that the reunion was a big success! Sixteen ladies showed up at the restaurant and we all had dinner together and were able to become reacquainted with one another. Some of us have changed a great deal and others remain the very same. We had a lot of laughs and remembered a lot of good times shared in Verdun. We had two posters of childhood pictures to ooh and aw over provided by Earlene. Crescendo Restaurant was very good and it was fun to be by the river again. Some of us strolled down Third Avenue and were even invited to come into a ladies house to see some of the changes that have taken place inside. What a treat that was! Stilwells humbugs are as delicious as ever they were and we bought several bags to bring home with us. Of course the weather was delightful and balmy. Can't believe it 's almost the end of October! Cookie is visiting more relatives but I'm sure she will also have something to tell you all when she finally gets home. It was a delight for me to stay with childhood friends for the weekend and to see Maureen after many, many years. Take care, Bev.
Hi Bev, Read your message, glad you all had a good time, I was thinking about you. In Florida as you know, watched to launch this morning....it was spectacular. Have a good trip South, will email soon Judy
Hi Winnie, Bev just about covered everything about our 50 year re-union...I can add a little more.... The day started with a Steamer & Fries at Lafleur.....followed by a trip to 3rd ave where we were all born 65 yrs ago (man ,this should be in the newspaper,50 years!!) The trip down 3rd avenue was hilarious..picture this..if you will, a couple of 65 year olds, cameras in hand, dressed for an evening out, at 3pm saturday afternoon...taking photos of our front doors on 3rd. Needless to say there were a few strange looks. But then, our female-hero came along who just happened to live in our flat and was very kind to invite us in to have a lookie-loo, it must have been my pal Earlenes perfect french that did it! After 65 yrs, the old flat has changed some, except when we peered out the back lane area and there were the clotheslines and those many wires and cables still hanging in space! We took a few more photos then carried on driving around the Verdun areas and reminising...it was great! So worth the trip down memory lane, although we didn't venture in the lane on 3rd..........then onto Cresendo's for 5pm where the other ladies would be wondering in for dinner, and we would need to guess who they were ,especially me,as I haven't seen them for 50 years! It was so exciting, I know some of us had tears when greeting our long lost pals again.....the food was great, the view of the water was lovely, a very busy restaurant.. as mentioned by Bev, they had many black&white photos on the walls of us when we were youngsters......we ate, drank and talked and talked and had a wonderful time...I am sure everyone was so happy to be their......as we arrived at 5pm....we weren't surprised when the waiters started to stack the chairs loudly, so we would think of leaving at 11:15pm...now that's what I call a leisurely dinner!! If Bev & I haven't covered everything, someone else will add to this..oh,and yes...Stillwells humbugs were in order, can't forget those.......... cookie
Wow,.......sounds like you had a great time. I read your post with a smile on my face thinking of a 50 year abstinence & then a get together,,,,,,,,,, Glad you Had Fun & Remembered Verdun Pals hf&rv
Hi Les, Yes thanks, we did have a great time......on another thought, I see your a bit of an expert on the computer, was wondering how a person could find a newspaper clipping from The Montreal Star (archides) dating back to around 1950 ..I know the Star collapsed in 1979,but shouldn't their be some info on the Mtl.Star archides? You can email me at home if you can help. cookie@cablelan.net thanks Les,
Okay, ....there are some photos of us for viewing, in PICTURES although some are a little blurred. There should be more to come later....let's hope I spelled everyones (maiden) name correctly? cookie
Hi Cookie ,...looks like you all had a ball,(judging by the smiles on your faces)..I'll bet some of those old photo's in the background ,were neat to see ,after all the years,. ( the ones pasted on the cardboard,in your other pics) Glad you had a fun trip,.always nice to Visit,................. HF&RV
Hi Les, we thought the photo on the wall over the table was hilarious....how to get the old dollies excited, huh? Not sure if you know any of us, from left to right..Joyce Allard, Bev Kane,Elsie Macdonald, her sister Earlene Macdonald, myself, and Lorna Goddard on the end. Of course these are all the maiden names to make it easier to identify with. We hope to do another re-union in 5 years ,if we are all still around at 70 yrs old? hahahaha. cookie
