Best concerts I have seen
Hi
Here is another one.. any concert goers out there?
Must be a couple..list your yr 3 favorite concerts if possible.
Interesting to hear what people have to say..
I might have a hard time myself. but I will try and come up with them.
Hi Lad, one of the most memorable for me was going to see the Beatles at the Forum when I was 9yrs. with my British born mother, sqeezing my hand to death. I was wearing a pink party dress including crenalin. We were seated on the floor, and when they came on stage everybody stood up, so I did'nt get to see much. The best concert I saw was Bob Dylan and The Band. Went both nights. Can't remember the yr. Also another great one was David Bowie in 74 I think,he was wearing a pin stripped suit. I remember getting up at 4am when the Stones tickets went on sale and spent most of the day in line for them. I enjoyed that concert also. It was very hot inside the forum that night and Mick Jagger was throwin buckets of water on the audiance and rose petals. How sweet of him. Led Zeppelin was the first one I went to see as a teenager, after the Beatles, that was the 1st time I had seen everyone lighting matches before they came on, I don't think there was bic lighters back then. Wendy
Laddie.... Here are my choices: Number 1 - Pink Floyd at the Big O (and a few other venues) Number 2 - Led Zepplin at the old Maple Leaf Gardens in TO Number 3 - Jethro Tull, Van Morrison, Mountain et al at the Autostade. Very close - Burton Cummings at the Imperial Room, Royal York Hotel, TO...solo....what a voice And, oh yeah.....the Alabaster Villa Have I aged myself with these selections?
P the P...... Just trying to help, 'tis all. Great story about that Pink Floyd concert at Montreal.......some idiot (perhaps on mind altering substance??) actually threw a bottle on stage and hit Roger Waters. That prompted him to write The Wall. Just a trivia tidbit here......but, documented.
Very true story there Penelope. Waters has detailed that very thing in talking about how after that incident he wanted some "separation" from the audience, hence "The Wall".
Yes it does, and also I've learned different ways to spell click.Well it's bedtime for Boonzo, speak to you later." It's been real." As Moon Mullins would say. Wendy
Hi Wendy The Beatles lucky you. You are the first person I know of who was there. The Band I think was in 74 and I agree was great. Did not see Bowie or Zepplin envy you there. Can remember Joplin and Hendrix playing Forum and not going.Figure they would come back.Who Knew..and the Stones concert I had a ticket twice for that show but sold them and ended up in the riot outside the Forum when the crowd broke the windows and tried to get in. The show lasted maybe 45minutes..I had Kent Saunders with me that night..man did we move down the street when some guy tossed a bottle at the riot squad. Lucky someone opened a door to their apt. on St,Catherine and we jumped in the porch.. Have seen the Stones but wish I was there for that one. I only paid 20bucks for the ticket... Lad
Glen Neve did see Pink Floyd,,About Burton Cummings were you there the night the Guess Who and Mountain played a concert I think in Place Bonaventure. Man Burton stood next to me watching Mountain. Not sure but I think it had something to do with Winter Carnivals and other high schools in Mtl.Seem to recall alot of us from school there that night. Wanna age yourself try this one..did you ever go to youth pavillion at Expo 67 and listen to the bands...One day they had Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane playing..could not get close saw them on screen and heard them over speakers. We had waited for them at Place Des Nations but they moved at last minute..so missed chance to get close up.Wish I had seen some of the artists you have. Lad
Glen Going to try my 3.. Bob Dylan and The Band (Forum) Dire Straits (3 encores The Forum) CSNY (ACC) Very close....The Who back in 68 at the Forum first time they played. Sat in reds paid 10 bucks night of show at ticket booth..could not hear for 2 days after that..and The Stones Bridges to Babylon at the Bell Centre..sat down low in middle when they crossed the Bridge to play on small stage about 20 rows in front of me... Lad
Glen The one that got away..Cream at the Paul Sauve Arena...went to the show..The Rabble I think played first or was it the Haunted..? Anyway after intermission Dean Hagopian comes out tells us Jack Bruce can't make it...one show I wish got to see when you consider the going rate for the reunion in NYC was in the thousands. At that time we paid 5bucks...grabbed some ticket stubs off the floor and cashed them in... Lad
Hiya from Cathy-my top three would be Janis Joplin(I was a kid but wow what a show...I'll never forget it) Bob Marley Bruce Springsteen very difficult to pick just three-the Ramones rank way up there as do the Police..saw Bob Dylan too...Joe Jackson,Elvis Costello,B-52's.....most shows were a lot of fun...one of the worst concerts I have been to was the Stones....and Yes at the Forum was disappointing...seeing the Ramones in Montreal,Ottawa and Toronto was always fantastic-too bad that most of them have gone now though!
Hi Lad, I also saw the Who at the Forum. I remember gate crashing at Place de Nations for Sly and the Family Stone, they where about 1hr late and Sly was wasted but everybody seemed to be having a good time waiting, if you know what I mean. Also saw Peter Frampton there in 76 I think. Saw Van Morrison at the Loews theater on St.Catherine, way before it became a Cyniplex.(sp)Those where the good old days. Wendy
the lad: Do you have a copy of the Montreal Forum Book ,1924-1996 it's a great book and lists every event that was presented in the Montreal Forum,...every game & score of the game,.every concert,.every escapade, every circus etc etc ,............it really is a neat book to have I have scanned & posted a few copies of events over the years ,.etc etc ,.......but looking up Sly ( Iknow he played there twice ,.but so far I've found the date January 21st, 1971.........as one of the dates,Three Dog Night on October 4th,1970James Brown July 11th ,1970Led Zeppelin April 13 th 1970Janis Joplin November 4th1969............etc etc A really great book to have, Just fun to cruise through & remember some of the old days..................................... Mind You there's some horrible events that noone ever should have to endure....( no i don't mean the odd loss to the leafs)...............no more horrible than that,.............................. Celine Dion played there too Yikes Forgive Me father for I have sinned,it's been Decades since my last........................blah blah vlah...............hahahahahha HF&RV if you want to know a date of a certain concert & you don't have access to this book or one like it,.Let me know I'll look it up & post it........... Cheers
Hey Lad-that is one of the reasons I mentioned the Stones as being one of the WORST concerts ever-lining up all night for tickets and getting harrassed by the drunks in Atwater Park...finally getting into the Forum where I swear it was over 100 degrees fahrenheit...yup they played for 45 minutes? It felt more like 30-then when we left there were all of the creeps who didn't get in so they were grabbing at us when we left-a total nightmare!
LES I have been looking for that book for so long in English. Could you look up that date and let me know The Who in 68 I think and get this Dave Clark Five the Forum... way back when...also paid 5bucks for that one.I was at that 3 Dog Night concert too. Thanks for that one...ended up getting pulled over driving some girls back to the west island..after the show..searched the whole bit...only I.D. I had was my grad ring. nice one eh? anyways said to the Officier when he frisked me Hey just like Adam 12. Somehow humor was lost on him....hahahahahha Lad
Show's March 27th ,1968=the WhoSept 14th 1969 = the Doors .........I also see listed many times something called Montreal Star Concertwhat was that? Anyone know? HF&RV
We really have no idea,...........many years ago when we first started we thought we were eating up storage space, but it's there option to do so, makes it hard to follow a bit,......I know that when pictures are posted ,if they are posted directly from your own hard drive then you are eating up storage space ,so I can understand removing those, but you can leave the text,Good question though cathyart........... I also would encourage any of you out there to 'save' any pictures you like when you see them in a post, because sometimes they will only stay for a short period if they've been 'copy' & pasted from a different website,..most sites will allow a direct link, but some break that link as soon as you log off the other site,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but if you see text explaining something and there's no picture to go with it,then just ask & someone will try to find the pic & post it again for you........................................... HF&RV
Hi Lad, also saw Three Dog Night, went to meet them at Dorval airport with Frankie Lumpston, anyone remember him? He had 2 brothers.David the youngest,I think he passed away and an older one, can't remember his name Wendy
Hi Cathyart1 I hear ya about the Stones show...outside was alot worse....we just came back after they smashed the windows of the Forum bad timing there. Riot cops all over the place..not waiting to see who did what.. They got one guy up on DeMaisonneuve and Chomedy street just up from the Seville..think he threw a seven up bottle..man did not throw much after they nailed him....doubt the guy could move for long time either. Do you remember a hamburger joint across from Eaton's called Macdonald 22 cents hamburger. All the draft dodgers and hippies and so on hung there. I worked there for a bit..guy sold me Stones ticket for bus fare home..15 or 20 bucks. Went to box office to see if it was real and it was..6 rows on the floor almost centre stage.Sold it to a guy from Crawford plus I got his ticket. Sold that one.. Guess I did not miss much. Lad
Wendy Those concerts at Place Des Nations were those the Friday night ones? Saw Pogo,Jesus Christ Superstar.and Black Sabbath to name a few there. Had to stand for them...Forgot who else was there. Lad
Hi Lad, can't remember if they were on Fri.I thought they would've been on a Sat. cause we'd go hrs. before in the afternoon and just wait for the concert. Saw Pogo there also now that you mentioned it. Yeah, we had to stand up.From time to time I'd ask some cute guy if I could get on his shoulders to get a better look. Could'nt do that today. Wendy
I remember going to quite a few concerts at Place des Nations.
I remember one quite well, Loggins and Messina. I had my camera with me and the security guards got the impression that I was a "photographer" and opened up the gates so that I could sit/stand in front of the stage.
I got a number of really great pictures but unfortunately they got lost in one of my moves.
Does anyone remember the weekend or day long concert that was at the Stadium (I think). I vaguely remember it being at the end of Church Avenue area in a big football stadium type of place. Some of the bands that played were Van Morrison, Jefferson Airplane, Melanie, Hare Krishna :s and Johnny Winter.
