Buisness on Rielle

The other day I walked down Rielle between Bannantyne and Verdun and noticed that the old warehouse/factory? on the east side of the street has been torn down. In fact the whole thing is cleared right through on to Gordon. Probably be condos going in. I just can't remember the name of the company that was there for so long. Presto comes to mind but....?

Hi KenCM3,  I Remember that place too,.it was just past where Paul Figueroa lived,.I think it was a bread warehouse deal ,wasn't it? Where they would bring the bread from the bakery's and then distribute from there??? I remember the loading docks & I have a sort of memory of the place being painted white with red trim on the loading dock.........???  ...and the back of the joint was backed up near the Lumberyard on Gordon, actually a the lane separaated them\ ,slightly,,,,,,,,,,,,                                                                                         HF&RV

Hi Joey - Verdun  ,   Funny you mention Toledo Engine Rebuilders, I came across one of those aluminum tags that get bolted to the Head of an engine after an engine rebuild, it has all the specs of what they did ie: tolerances etc etc   I'm using a remote computer so I can't access my scanner and post it ,but if I think of it I will when my other home desktop is accessible to me again.  but the tag basically says       Toledo Engine Rebuilders Inc.                        custom built remanufactured engine: Serial  _ _ _ _ _                 Bore  _ _ _ _ Date    _ _ __ _                  Mains _ _ _  _ Spec    --- -- - - -                 Cam   _ _ _ _              I think this was off my Big Block which I had redone again later,at Claude Primeau SpeedShop in St Isidore Quebec , just over the Mercier Bridge                                        HF&RV

I Remember also in the early 80's (very early ,newer body style camaro),.the 305 smaller V8 's ,  had what we referred to as a 'Broomstick' cam You start out with a Camshaft,.and end up with a Broomstick.........hahahaha  Wore all the lobes right down ,absolute junk, and created some nightmares for the mechanics of the day,.becasue they were all being told to rely on the engine Analyzer's of the period,.and to this day when you hook up an analyzer to any motor,.almost inevitably it will tell you that you need a O 2 sensor,...........and the trouble with electronics (sensors & stuff) it's the old "You Bought It,.you Got it" no returns on those if it wasn't needed,.........So it took a good old fashioned Mechanic (read problem solver),.to analyse the old fashion way ( using their heads) and notice that if the engine was popping & spitting,    it was likely a worn GM Cam,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,    I ran a few dealerships and always hated to hear ,well we changed the O2 sensor ,but we still have the problem..............YIKES !! and I'm paying these guys to 'change parts'  I have great respect for some Real Mechanics to Problem Solve without milking the company,,,,,,,,,,,hahahaha                                                                                                HF&RV

Ron I think my paternal grandfather, William Cooper, worked there in some capacity long before my time. It would be interesting to discover when this stable began and what the name of the business was originally.

Toledo sounds right. I believe the bakery , which was probably something else by the 60's, was on Gordon.

Hi Carolyn....I wonder if Peter Lazure would recall Mr.Allen having a horse and buggy back then,as I think Peter Lazure was married at one time to Garys cousin......know one seems to be able to locate Gary, we were hoping he and his wife would read about our re-union and want to come to the dinner .....not sure if his Mom is still alive ........but,if you email one of the Lazures about this topic ,perhaps you'll get your answers......who knows......We also called Peter Lazures home and spoke to his wife ,Peter was on the road,so they couldn't join us either......   Oh, Lorraine Giblin does not have a computor, not sure if I already mentioned that to you. cookie

I lived on Rielle as a child b ut do not remember a commercial building. Maybe it was on Gordon Ave where I remember a lumberyard and a spiritualist or penticostal church.
that was before 1950.
