The Arrow
This thread was posted a year or so ago. I thought I'd dig it up again seeing we have so many new members who may have more to add to this huge mistake by John G. Diefenbaker so many years ago.
Bill,Jean Chr챕tien made the same mistake with the helicopters wich were supposed to be made in Canada and wich he cancelled once he was in power. This cancellation cost us taxpayers millions of dollars in contract cancellations. There are other examples such as the Mirabel Airport fiasco.Need I go further.Guy
I saw the movie on TV and thought it was well done. Last Fall I met Dan Akroyd in Halifax when he was in town promoting that new brand of tequila and I mentioned thet movie and that I enjoyed it. He said he was very proud to have been a part of it.
Dan Akroyd is a very talented entertainer. I have the DVD and I watch it occasionally. It was a total shame the government wasn't using the genius of those Canadian Avro aeronautical engineers. I understand they were all hired up by NASA. That incredible plane was the fastest jet fighter in the world at the time, 1950s. Way way ahead of it's time. Why did Diefenbaker order those prototypes destroyed? I think there were 5 of them. What b.s. insanity was that? Tell me it wasn't a childish personality dispute with the Avro CEO. At least save one to put into a Canadian museum. I'd bet the Smithsonian Museum in DC would have paid whatever, to have that plane apart of their aeronautical collections. Whew! It boggles the mind.
