A few days ago, we woke up and found the garbage from our covered cans all over the back yard. We thought it was probably the racoons. A few days later in the morning I was going thru the house gathering stuff to put into the garbage cans to put out for collection. Out of the kitchen window, here was a black bear going thru our garbage cans pulling everything out. That buggar. I was letting the dogs out this morning, and the bear was back. The dogs went after him, and he went up the tree. Are we having fun yet???? Called anumal control again. But they can't do anything. They have a bear trap out about a mile from me hoping to catch the buggar. I don't want to shot it, and hurt it. But what's a guy to do?

Winnie, Are you giving us the bear facts? I know a fellow that used a wind driven noisemaker that sounded like wasps. He told me it worked well. When we had trouble with bears at the camp we'd get my mother-in-law to stick her head out the window. Kept 'em away for weeks. Ed
Ed......you are a hoot!!!! Winston we have had bears around here over the years too!!! On the radio today there was an announcement from Dept. of Lands and Forests that the black bears are roaming around and to be careful and not to leave any garbage ouside and not to barbecue...imagine, can't barbecue!!! Also not to compost for the next few weeks. Dianne
Same thing here, about the garbage. Of course we did BBQ last night. The poor thing is probably so hungry. I was probably about 5 feet away from it. I was staring it right in the face. Supposedly their eyesight is not very good. It was not aggressive at all. Anyways we have the garbage cans in the garage now.

Winston. Would it be better to feed the bear? Bears that are not hungry are less dangerous. Perhaps you could leave some food a distance away. Ed
Ed. I was thinking about inviting my ex-wife over to feed the bear. But I can't stand her enough to invite her over, no matter what the GOOD r esults might hopefully be...

OMG too funny Winston Connie
Winnie...Whatever you do, don't feed the bear! Not even with your ex-wife! As the saying goes in Fish & Game Clubs ; A FED BEAR IS A DEAD BEAR !! A few years ago they would tranquilize the bear and helicopter it to another area above...BUT....that was stopped, due to the costs of gas and helicoptor..too expensive. The best way to handle bears, is what your doing ,keep your garbage cans in your garage for awhile, and hope your neighbors do the same..the bear will go away on it's own if there is no food for him/her. We also have a bear in the backyard and her cub I have heard her sometimes in the middle of the night looking for food, and that's because a neighbor had their compost outside and the silly bear turned it upside down and had a feast...so naturally, it's hangin' out at night awaiting another feast....but it will go away shortly, 'cause no one leaves their stuff out anymore. Believe me, the worst thing you can do for a bear is feel sorry and feed it......ask anyone who is a seasonal Hunter................ Wonder if Goldilocks is somewhere around................ cookie
