Now that is a Verdun Memory, the storm of 71.  I was still in Grade l0 at Verdun High.  I remember the school being cancelled.  The bus routes were eventually cancelled.  I remember the stores didn't have bakery delivery and all we could get - bread wise were hot dog buns.  A great adventure for a  kid eating toasted hot dog buns for breakfast.   I do remember the helpfulness of the people on  our street all chipping in and shovelling out each others   cars.   Does anyone else have any  Verdun recollections of that storm.

My wife and I arrived from Van. about 9 pm.We lived in DDO. at the time and the cab got as far as St. Johns rd. and Devon. That was as far as he could go. From there we had to walk about 1/4 mile in deep snow lugging suitcases and no boots just shoes. I sure remember that storm\.

Luarie. I do remember the storm of '71. I was working at the Montreal Exchange at the time. I decided to park inside the Place Victoria garage that day. I was not able to get my car out of there for an entire 7 days. I also remember walking home on that Thursday, after the exchange closed. I was living on Beurling at the time. I took the Metro from Place Victoria to Atwater that night. Then I ran most of the way home. Because I lived across from the park at the back of the VCHS, the wind had blown the snow up to the top of the front door. I had to go around back, climb up to the 2nd floor, and break the window to get in. We had a dog at the time, and heated with an oil heater, which was almost empty. BUT....I did not go in the next morning, and stayed home to help with shoveling. I was in shape then, so it was a little fun. It would kill me today... But I do remember it,
tho!!!!

That's quite a story Winston.   I remember my brother owning a house in Chateauguay which had one of those driveways that  went down from the side walk.   The snow in tehat driveway had drifted up and was over six feet tall. Man-power cleared that,  no snowblower. I bet he would say he couldn't do it today either.

Les, Snow has never been a few thousand feet high in Verdun. Must be terrible out there with it that deep. I remember March Ist to March 3rd 1971. Spent three days snowbound in my tractor at Montmagny.                  Ed

Edbro,.that's what makes us out here 'Strong like Bull,Smart like Tractor' when it's that deep it makes it quite hard to 'shovel it'  Something I suspect you would have no problem with:         hahahahahahah                            HF&RF
