Les, The Mack B2 model shown was popular with city delivery but for long distance the cab was very uncomfortable. The design of it didn't even give room to lay across the seats. The speedway trucks are big old Autocars made by White motors ( who also made Mack trucks.) Charlres White said to his old Bulldog, "Mack, I'm going to make a truck that's as tough as you are." And he did. When I watch the big buggers flying by over the Champlain bridge, I sometimes get the feeling that I'd like to be on the open road again. Ed

Les, The tractor in question is a GMC no later than '55. After that all highway tractors were 10 wheel except for local work. That one is obviously used for distance, hence the sleeper. Also the trailer has a reefer, usually used for long distance. I never worked Bonaventure yards that was before my time. Road maps were a problem. My last 15 years on the road with Anchor Motor Freight working out of Blackpool N>Y> we did the New England states. I had to carry maps for all of them. Try carrying 13 state maps as well as N.Y. City/Boston/Deleware/D.C./etc. and socks and underwear in one briefcase. The damn log books took half of it. If you slept naked you avoided needing pyjamas and your underwear could make another day. City maps of smaller towns were unnecessary. The signs would say 'Johnson's Mills" next three exits. We knew the car dealers were usually downtown so you took the middle exit and asked questions. Who says us men don't ask directions. I rememnber pulling into a little town in Pennsylvania at about 1 AM. Grayson's Corners. I saw Grayson's Drug store/Grayson's Hardware/I finally found Grayson's Chevrolet and Buick Dealer closed of course. Before I could leave, the Sheriff arrived and said I could leave the cars there. I told him I would come back in the morning cause I needed a signature. he said, "Ah'll sign." I said it has to be Mr. Grayson. He said, "Ah'm Grayson." Ed

Les, The old B Mack stirs memories. They were a four by six tranny, strong as a bulldozer but a lot of work to drive. The shift closest o the driver had four speeds while the one to his right had six positions. It was like two separate transmissions. You put the right one in 1st and moved thru 1-4 with the left. Then the right one in second and 1,2,3,4 with left and so on. It gave you 24 forward speeds, nearly all of which had to be used because the RPM range was so low on them. The most popular trans was the Roadranger 14 speed with a ruxel and splitter switch. It made truck driving a dream. When you dropped only a few rpms you could just flick the splitter switch and get back up to speed. Thanks for the memory but don't ask me to sing it. Ed

No Les, Beer was never behind me, I liked it right in front. Unfortunately, I can't down it like I did when I was young. But a lot of things are going that way. I've started wearing white again because I'm now a virgin. It happened automatically. So long since I had sex my body reverted itself. Ed
They've just finished doing a worldwide study on the efficency of things like Viagara ,..........versus .natural supplements , Apparently most women they asked said that Fruits & Vegetables work as good or Even Better than the pills,.............. Edbro here's a neat old deliverey truck,.which I got to see once,.many years ago(30+) it had been restored and was touring across the country (If I remember rightly) I had a good talk with the driver at the time ,who was actulally a brewmaster at some point (ret) and now did a special promotional tour,....(back around late 70;s???) but it sure is a neat old truck & has been restored completely,.........(I think there were only a couple of these oldstyle trailers around for them to find & restore,........ ...but Ed it looks like you'd have the same problem with this truck too ,..(beer behind you,.and not up front).............hahahahah
Les, It's hard top tell the age of that truck but you'll notice it has a hole for a hand crank. Ed

Thinking laterally, in 1935 Labatt’s Breweries commissioned world famous industrial designer Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky to create a distinctive delivery truck that would give the company instant brand recognition. The Canadian made Labatt Streamliner hit the roads in 1936, garnering tons of attention from the public and winning awards for its unique design. Sakhnoffsky designed three different versions of the Streamliner. Production of the third (1939) version was delayed until 1947 due to war rationing. They didn't put a heater so the beer would stay cold. I did drive a bread wagon on Saturdays and during the summer. Edgar Mathews, the Wonder bread man had a black stallion called Chipso. A powerful animal. He knew the route. Wouldn't let me go down a different street so I could show off to the girls that I was driving the hore. (I don't know why the font has gone to italin. Question Ed: How do you 'drive a hore'? Just kidding, but I remember our milkman's wagon and horse. That old nag wouldn't move anywhere, anytime, anyhow for us kids.....except if we had some sugar cubes (remember those?) to offer it.

On the subject, do you remember when kids would feed the horse green apples thinking they were doing it a favour but it was no favour to th driver who sat behind. Ed
